I had always wondered if Tunnicliffe could be the destroyer in the middle if Fletcher isn't available. Haven't really got to watch him play much but I heard that he was a box-to-box player. He looks a pretty decent destroyer in FM though, and due to me not living in UK I can only rate a player that had never played PL football via FM. What do you guys think about him?

M'villa? Yeah i don't know, i've only seen him in the Euros and once in some friendly game, but he is more create-from-the-deep kind of guy (and very good for one for that matter). In fact, i was rather dissapointed at his performances when defending , he didn't seem to have that drive to get regain the possession and dominate the opponents.

He's similar to Fletcher. He has real engine and great aggression. Perfect for box to box mid. His passing is solid and he seems like a intelligent player to make those runs from deep. Destroyer, I think no..

OMG! I thought he had already supplied the team with enough strikers! If that's true I guess he'll have to sell someone. Assuming he's so fond of Welbeck Chicharito seems the man to leave. Or you know... be benched just like Berbatov.

He isn't ready for first team though.

He was the player who did all the dirty work and let Pogba and Morrison dictate the game. In the future, maybe. But now he isn't ready.

I still think our midfield is not strong enough to progress to the final of this competition, might reach semi if we get some good opponents, Fletcher as a Defensive type midfielder is better than what we had before (nothing to speak about) but there are a lot better players at doing it like mentioned before, Sandro/Tiote.

I think Fletcher plays best as more of a box to box, he just doesn't have the presence a Sandro/Vidal/Tiote etc. does.

Fletcher always had his best games when he played as box to box or destroyer (whatever it is called). He played rarely as DM, if he continues to play as DM, then there is one reason (biggest) that he can't cover the ground like before.

Agreed with last line (first bit). He should be played box to box role.

Indeed Fletcher is not a lone holding type player, rather, someone who works well when paired, ie in a 4-4-2, or in 4-2-3-1, with a partner who has good positioning sense

Exactly. All his best performances were when there was one CM who sat deep and allowed Fletcher to water carrier work.

Fully fit Fletcher would be huge asset to the team (exactly the type of player we are missing, a CM with aggression, high energy, someone who can throw himself for tackles) but the current Fletcher will be just a back up to Carrick IMO.

Think the reason we didn't sign a player is because SAF is gambling on getting the old Fletcher back, and is showing faith, but I think he may be forced to enter the market come Jan if Fletcher doesnt get back to his full level self, which is why I was against spending on anything other than that specialist in the summer, as it means there would be no leeway to do so, in Jan.

We cannot keep playing the way we are right now. Rooney shouyld be playing AMC to add steel as well as his attacking quality, Kagawa can offer dangerous movement out wide attacking inside, as he did against Spurs. Not ideal, but it would help the side as a whole.

Yeah SAF really took huge gamble to bank on Fletcher as even if Fletcher comes back to his old self, we can't be sure when his illness will rule him out again. Huge exaggeration but this is like hoping Hargo will be back one day.

Agreed with the second part. It's been said many times, 3 man midfield is the way forward. We are way too open at times which also has impact on attacking play (not sure which player said this, but remember ManUtd player saying when you are confident on defense, you focus 100% on attack, otherwise you might concede any moment will play in the back of your mind).

Till the time we sign one more CM and even after signing the CM, we should play with 3 men midfield. That's the best way to bring best out of Anderson, Cleverley and Carrick. Even Scholes if played as part of midfield 3.

Kagawa is not a traditional winger but his performance against Spurs proves we can play 4-3-3 with Kagawa starting wide and drifting centrally. Like you said not ideal but makes our team lot more balanced and solid.

Indeed Rooney is able to hold up the ball much better than Kagawa. But is the Japanese fully comfortable of playing as an AML? In the game against Spurs when Rooney came on we were very much in control of the game (due to Spurs sitting back). But in general terms Evra needs support in defense, especially in the (anti)form he is now. From what I've seen Kagawa has decent work rate when playing as an AMC. In preseason he even played a game as a CM but it was against much weaker opposition. In my opinion we have to change our play in order to accommodate him into our side.

He played all across that attacking band for Dortmund, very comfortable out there, though he prefers playing through the middle.
And yes I agree we do have to change how we pass to him to get the best from him. Very different type of AMC to Rooney, Kagawa is almost a false 10, getting higher up the pitch, whereas Rooney plays like a very aggressive Trequartista.
