The Manchester United Thread

Bollocks. Moyes had achieved his fair share at Everton, just because he didn't win anything doesn't mean he didn't do well. Obviously he's not going to be as accomplished as Fergie, not many people are, but to say he didn't achieve anything at the top-level, and that he didn't have a winning reputation at Everton, is bollocks. That's not to say he's necessarily suited to managing a 'big' club, mind you, just that you can't say he achieved nothing at Everton without sounding like an ignoramus.

No offence... it's.... Everton. Manchester United is the biggest club in the world, I think you want something more proven than a man who consistently gets Everton in to the top 6. As good as you may think his achievements are, Martinez is doing pretty sterling so far as well.

Compare the stats on that site to the likes of Man City and its all too clear.

I can't find the actual quote but I couldn't believe that it took 16 Premier League games for a Man Utd midfielder to register an assist!

Terrifying isnt it.

Martinez has been there half a season, at no point has he managed to a) qualify for CL or b) keep them in and around the top 6 repeatedly or c) finish above Liverpool. the fact that you even attempt to compare 6 months to a 10 year tenure is crazy.

Same squad didn't do too bad last season though did they? No excuses for being 7th after 20 games.
Last season United were average, everyone else was *****.

This season United have been *****, everyone else average.

Many an 'expert' have said that only Fergie could have won league titles with those recent Man United teams and so it is proving.

Strawman post since I never said he was blameless. But yes two players would make all the difference, the same way RVP and Carrick almost fired us to the title last season.

Because not everything his Moyes' fault. Because I'm not so ludicrously one eyed that I cannot see that there are many issues, with many people all over the club at fault.

Because I actually realise that SAF papered over the gaps last season with of the best forwards in the world in ludricrous form and Carrick near the top of his game, and neither got injured long term!

The single biggest issue right now is lack of creativity, do we blame Moyes for failing to address in one window, or Ferguson for failing in 8?

But if you cant see how this amounts to a transition, I really, really cannot be bothered carrying this on.

Think I've stated many times that obviously we have weaknesses, but I repeat, it is the same squad that took the league at a canter last season. He didn't just fail in the summer... he embarrassed the whole club, lets not get away from that fact.

Transition period because we need a midfielder or not, it's not justifiable for being 7th after 20 games. Also if it was SO bad why hasn't he addressed the issue straight away in preparation for January?

The whole club embarrassed itself, it's not just Moyes who does dealings, don't talk nonsense. Who says he isn't trying? we know he's been to watch Koke twice, caught on camera both times. Doesn't mean its suddenly easy to do a deal. Ferguson didnt do it in 4 years!

Koke? Another realistic target....... reminds me of Fabregas, the only difference is that he hasn't publicly announced this one.... yet.

Funny how Moyes is always looking for the awkward targets, but yet cos of our desperation in midfield he won't take an easy option but still a very good one in our situation. Cabaye? Ribeiro? Rakitic? Ok maybe not easy, but definitely more so than Koke.

Koke has a release clause that can be activated, is 21 and is one of the rising stars in the world. If it was Ferguson chasing him, you'd be all over it, we should be chasing him among others. Ribiero isnt moving till summer. And we have no idea about others because he's downplayed everything else (something you wanted and now complain about).

Lol, rumours about Coentrao are that he could be allowed to leave for around 12 Million. That'd be way, way cheaper than the Baines deal. Also should free up some more money, if he wants to go after Koke.

Stop getting your hopes up for a transfer lmao. We are Man Utd, when was the last time we had a relatively good/active winter transfer window?

Coentrao... hmmm... I'm not sure about this guy.

We don't exactly need to go on a spending spree by getting 6-7 players in at once. We've never done that, and hopefully won't have to do that. What we've done over the years have been some decent business. Obviously not as active as City or Chelsea, but we don't need to. Just 2 good transfers this January, and maybe 2 over the summer would be quality.

Haha probably when we bought Evra and Vidic, even then they were ***** till the summer.

Considering we need strengthening in other areas too, this seems more stop-gap measures. He's not world-class, but he's good. And cheap. But again, these are rumours, still dunno if Moyes is stupidly dead-hung about Baines yet.

I'd really like Luke Shaw, but you'd have to pay the price and fend off the competitors, which United don't seem to do well.

Based on various unconfirmed and unreliable (lol) rumours, the price tag on Shaw seems to be around 20 Million. I sure as **** can't see United forking out that much on a 18 year old, especially with other areas needing strengthening too. Plus, Chelsea to consider too.

We can all go about with if only's.. But if only Moyes had approached Koke in the previous summer eh? >_>

If it's ?20 million, then the price won't be the problem. United have forked out (if I recall correctly) ?12 million for Smalling; ?15 million for Zaha; ?18 million for Phil Jones and ?7 million for B?b? - all of whom were unproven, or at least not as proven as Shaw, at the time. The main problem is whether Woodward and United can get him at that price or not, and whether the likes of Chelsea also bid for him.

If United try and bid for him, and I definitely can't see Chelsea keeping quiet. With Shaw's liking also being Chelsea, things could get downright messy as two top clubs aim for him. Even more inflated wages and the like, probably.

As for 20 Million, we still need a quality midfielder and quality wingers. With that being the case, I dunno if Moyes'll be keen on 20 Million for only Shaw.

On which positions would ManU need transfers?
Considering they have around 5? first team players being in their 30's.
Does ManU have any upcoming talents?
