The Manchester United Thread

When he said money talks it's so obvious it was in terms of Transfers, wages and agent fee and it's also obvious you have to tempt player with bigger wages than he is on.

Jesus Christ, did you read anything I said because you seem to have gone off on your own tangent ... Yes money does talk. But it's also relative, by your account: Mata would be ready to jump ship to United if they offered him an extra 10k per week

Understand this, players at big clubs such as Pogba, Lewandowski and Rooney are all on relatively big wages. You can't tempt them through 'money' alone as they already earn so much that to actually turn their head with money, you would have to offer crazy astronomical sums which wouldn't fare well in the FFP era. That's my point

OK..

FYI, Lewandowski and Pogba are on peanuts.

Why are you mentioning FFP when United are one of the most comfortably placed clubs for it?

Doesnt mean you ruin all the good work by paying out huge wages

Glad you agree. Yes Pogba is now considering how much he has improved ... Didn't Lewa get a pay rise before this season?

You're allowed to make a ?45m loss per season at the start. United consistently post ?100m+ operating profits while our commercial business continues to grow. I sincerely doubt Marchisio is going to wipe out ?150m+ by himself.

The price being bandied about is 12-13m if i am not wrong ... There are rumours he is demanding a significant pay rise thought but none from any credible source
Even if he was free, he's not good enough. That's the whole point.

Fair enough if that's what you think but even you cannot deny that your midfield needs improving and that they are very few better alternatives out there who will move in January

I never said anything about Chelsea and we are allowed to make such a loss or not ... All I am saying is that just because you are on firm financial footing doesn't mean you start paying out exorbitant wages, I am talking really high sums, so you can turn the heads of Marchisio. It won't remain an isolated incident and would lead to a domino effect as other players will see that deal and start demanding higher wages themselves from United

Whoa, what's with all the Guarin hate in here?

He's been a consistently good player for three or so years now. He was arguably Inter's best player last year, has a knack of raising himself for big games, is extremely versatile and in the prime of his career. I don't get why a team with Fellaini and Cleverley as starting central midfielders wouldn't want Guarin.

****, who else are United going to sign who's actually better? De Rossi? Lol, nope. Koke? Promising and talented, but unlikely to leave. The only other remotely possible signing is probably Ivan Rakitic, and I've heard nary a whisper about him. Considering the dream team of Moyes and Woodward's usual cack-handed scatter-sledgehammer approach to transfers is usually pretty open about who they're chasing - comparatively - I'd say it's safe to rule him out.

There's other candidates, I guess. Cabaye, but Guarin's better than him, if not as acclimatised to the Prem. United could go back in for Ander, but he's been fookin ***** this season. But still, he's not only the most realistic target for United, but also one of the better ones in terms of pure ability and worth to his team.

EDIT:

Okay, let's talk Marchisio. He's 27 - 28 in a few days - and he's a truly world-class midfielder. But he won't be cheap, in terms of wages or transfer fee. If I remember correctly, Juve have him locked down for another couple of years on his current contract, which is itself over ?80k per week. United would not only have to try and tempt away a lifelong Juventus fan and player for over 20 years, but also pay Juventus a whacking great wodge of cash to do so. Not to mention Marchisio could well be put off by the fact that he'd be moving from a constantly-improving Juventus, shoe-ins for a CL spot each year, to United, who aren't even certain of making the Europa League this year. It's harsh, but it's the truth.

Is it really worth it? It might be if the Marchisio was a few years younger, but I'm really not sure it is in this case, even if he is available, which isn't certain at all.

To be honest, if I had to pick a midfielder for United out of the current available crop, I'd be tempted by one of Blaise Matuidi or Albin Ekdal. Ekdal's great and he's one of my favourite players in the world, but Matuidi's the kind of warrior United could do with. Ekdal's at a smaller club, but both of them have contracts that run out at the end of this season, so they'd come relatively cheap.

Mate you got it all wrong, the likes of Guarin and Matic are just way too low class for the dream team of Moyes and Woodward. Didn't you see Moyes at the Juventus game? They are more likely working on some audacious double swoop for Vidal and Pogba as we speak ... Expect United to put out a statement any day now that Woodward is off on some 'important transfer business' in Italy

Facepalmworthy..

Any posts on Matic?

I'm thinking Matic would more likely be a move for Chelsea. However, we do need a good midfielder. And Pogba is definitely a dream, nothing else. Marchisio rumours are pretty strong, but considering his age, and the fee, I'm not too sure it'd be a good move.

I was asking Alcaraz on posts about Matic saying he is not good enough for ManUtd.

So much nonsense he has posted in last week and half it's unreal.

Huh? My reply to GC was obviously tongue-in-cheek if you didn't notice

Edit: Quite a bit of the nonsense has been contributed by you so stop taking the high ground here

Read somewhere (not sure where) that Moyes asked Scouts to focus more on Serbia, Croatia and Bosnian leagues. IMO that would be fantastic. There are few very talented Youngsters in Croatia and a friend of mine (in another forum, from Croatia) used to rave about Kovacic some 3 years back and also about Halilovic even before Media started to hype them.

You're being an idiot Alcaraz, you really are. You start arguments and constantly make snarky posts. If that's all you are here for, don't post on this thread.

Snarky posts? Start arguments constantly? How about you go read up the previous pages and find out who is at fault here instead of simply going against me simply because I said something against your beloved club

All I said here was that Guarin would be a good fit for Manchester United or Chelsea before Sunil started taking digs at me saying I don't watch him enough and therefore it's stupid and foolish of me to even comment on the issue. Not to mention his stupid condescending posts targeted at me when I raise legitimate points about the 'money' issue which he constantly ignores and goes off on his own tangent or better yet, doesn't reply at all

Or when I said that Shaw would likely choose Chelsea over United, suddenly Sunil twisted that into me proclaiming the end of United as a football club for which I got needlessly attacked by everyone else

Not that I am saying that I am completely absolved of any blame but it takes two hands to clap. So maybe it's time you be a bit more impartial in your judgement
