The Manchester United Thread

As long as Rooney isn't going the other way, and United can afford the deal, without compromising on their ability to spend in the Summer, and as long as Moyes/Woodward actually do some **** in Summer, this is reasonably good deal.

If RvP stays, and becomes fit, things might get a bit messy;;
RvP
Januzaj/Kagawa - Rooney - Mata

However, if Rooney were to play up-top, then the situation would be pretty good;;
Rooney
Kagawa - Mata - Januzaj

Still wondering if we should have waited till summer, and got some actual wingers like Draxler/Griezmann, but considering our situation at present, Mata deal can only help boost.

Januzaj Rooney and Mata behind RVP, going by our injury records at least one will be injured so Kagawa can play.

saying that this looks like Thiago MKII.

Rumors started and it snowballed. Every paper saying its close to done deal and in the end it will lead to nothing.

Probably so. Which may again lead to another outcry against Moyes. Tsk! Although, I somehow still can't see Chelsea selling players to United, especially after it has been made clear that Rooney won't be part of the deal.

Here's a transfer rumours with some actual substance ... Quotes from Dante saying that their has been United interest in his signature. So at one moment United are close to sealing a record transfer for a world-class player in Juan Mata and the next moment, they are chasing after a 30 year-old Brazilian defender. Woodward is everywhere!

Not that Dante is a bad player to be fair. Although everything about him goes against United's policy in buying players. For starters he is 30 so he probably will have little to no resale value

Some chatter about Marchisio as well. Now that would be a statement signing

I don't think the rumours that United are chasing two players are good reasons to discredit them.

Also, I fixed your quote a bit. :)

It's Manchester United, everything about the last 5 years of business tells you never to be sure until they are playing in red. I doubt Jose is bitter at all. If anything he would be trying to smooth things over so he can go again at Rooney. Also its 40m, that Chelsea will need for FFP, and IIRC i think its better for them if that arrives in jan over the summer?

Not only better, but crucial if they want to respect the FFP rules as if they sell him in summer it will count towards the next period and not the one which is ending in summer. Chelsea are odd 10m or so over the allowed 45m break even deficit or were pre Matic and De Bruyne deals.

Eh didn't mean to discredit them (well not the Dante one at least) ... Just found it funny at the amount of United-related rumours that the mill has been churning out ;)

Ehh Dante is a decent player but he is 30 ... Not really in line with United's transfer policy in recent years under ole' Fergie

To be fair, there are other players that can be sold before Mata. Demb Ba and Marin for instance ... Plus if I am not wrong, some of the costs that caused us to be above the deficit was related to improving infrastructure which doesn't come into FFP's calculations

I am quite certain that Mata will be sold in the summer to find a move for a world-class striker but I don't think he will be sold in January at all. That would leave us with 4 attacking midfielders for 3 positions with fixtures coming thick and fast ...

You know that we are allowed to use technology and there will be other representatives to talk in the absence of woodward right?

Btw, Dante said ManUtd are interested, not that he is negotiating contract with ManUtd. He is negotiating contract with Bayern and if that isn't resolved then he might move.

Lucky they're not under ole' Fergie any more then eh!

Yeap, but selling Mata would not only take you into clear, but also allow you to buy WC striker. If not now then in summer.

Read again, I wrote that Dante said United were interested ... Never said about about negotiating a contract or anything

Take us into the clear for one financial year. Back to square one from next year onwards ... Club planning to let go of Lampard, Cole and Eto'o which will free up a metric shitload of wages along with the sales of Marin and Ba allowing us to pursue that striker we need. Agreed that sale of Mata will help but makes absolutely no sense from a Chelsea perspective to sell him now, it would be basically handing the title to City

Perhaps if United had come in with the offer before we sold De Bruyne then their would have been a slight chance. Now it just seems like a lot of smoke to me

You make it sound like Mourinho has actually been playing Mata.... therefore that doesn't really make much sense.

So your first point doesn't make sense at all. How is it impossible for ManUtd to be interested in Dante and at the same time negotiating with Chelsea for Mata? It's not like Woodward had to hold a banner infront of Dante with "interested" written on it to prove we are interested.

Letting those players go will help in the next phase of FFP, but not for the one we are currently in. Chelsea have been working to comply with FFP for some time now so would make no sense to fail at first interval.

Mata isn't the deciding factor in race for the title. He has brought next to nothing so far this season and can't see that changing.

Apparently we cant try to sign more than one player at a time...
