The Manchester United Thread

That article only talks about losses but we are missing one very important point. Wages. Wages should be less than 70% of the turnover. Article did touch about that point that contract signed before so and so date will be excluded but it didn't mention any numbers.

I for one haven't followed any of the Chelsea numbers, so any rough figures on what's the %.

As far as I know, the plan is to use the wage exemption clause for our second period of FFP monitoring. It allows us to ignore almost ?80m of wages as the players were already on big contracts before 2010, for one season only providing that we are showing a positive trend (which we have been). Seeing as we have huge wage packets that we're hoping to unload by the time that this exemption ends, it makes sense.

Confirms my initial assertion that much of the losses was due to spending on infrastructure and youth

I don't think any other team would offer over ?30m with Mata in his current situation you could argue he's not even worth that. So United's deal if true, is a very generous price considering everything.

Half a average season won't diminish Mata's value so much ... Everyone knows Mata is only 25 and a world-class talent. Going by your logic, no top player will join United after their dismal season so far

Good point although Mata's wages are not exactly high. I think we can easily cover that by the expected departures of Lampard and Cole in the summer

Mata was not training with Chelsea today as per Daily mail. They had pictures too.

I thought Chelsea had a 2 day mini break from training and all that. Not even sure when the pics were taken but for what it is worth..

You know, as absurd as this transfer seems, Chelsea haven't exactly proved themselves to be the smartest guys in the room when it comes to transfers so let's see ...

What does my post have anything to do with logic about playing joining a club? Wtf, you're on some good stuff? Mushrooms?

.

I was not talking about Mata wages, just wages in general as the title said Chelsea comply with FFP. Anyways Subtle explained it.

The difference is, I have sources for Mata's character which you can then argue are diminished by his recent run on the bench. You have, at most, a single moment of frustration and a whole lot more conjecture which flies in the face of any of the facts so far. At the absolute best, we break even so trying to include the player's motivations into the equation is a bit silly really.

Which part is conjecture exactly? He wants to play and he wants to go to the World Cup - we can pretty much take it as a fact, unless you have some proof that he's a cyborg. If big club like United comes knocking and guarantees him place in the 1st eleven, its not much of a stretch to assume he may jump at the opportunity rather then sit on bench and hope Mourinho 'maybe but probably not' will see the light.

Very interesting.... providing them photos are genuine of the training session recently then there is surely no explaining that. Got to be a deal done.

Edit: Some Chelsea fans are saying on twitter that he was in training, shown on ChelseaTV. Dunno what's true anymore though.

Wasnt the greatest analogy admittedly ... But get real, there are a few clubs who would match United's offer for Mata without blinking an eye. United are not the only ones who know what a great player Mata is

All I can think of is PSG but they have wealth of attacking talent, City - Chelsea will never sell and they have Silva, Nasri, Navas.

Madrid could have signed him any time they wanted but they didn't when he was at Valencia. Rumor was that Jose didn't rate him, so that might change but they have Ronaldo, Di Maria, Isco, Bale as attackers.

So not sure which teams are ready to match 40 Million offer.

The argument isn't really about whether its a done deal or whether he will even go to United. But really about whether its credible. There is still a looooong way to go on this transfer, if it indeed happens. Although I'm not sure why we are even trying to suss out Jose, Chelsea, Woodward or United, because they are either too conniving (jose) or capable of sheer idiocy ( the rest)

The part where you have no evidence and where your point of him forcing his way out contradicts the evidence that we actually do have.

He wants to play and he wants to go to the World Cup - we can pretty much take it as a fact, unless you have some proof that he's a cyborg.

He has stated multiple times that he is happy to work for his place and try to become a better player. He has played over a 1000 minutes of football this season so it's not like he's in the KDB situation either.

If big club like United comes knocking and guarantees him place in the 1st eleven, its not much of a stretch to assume he may jump at the opportunity rather then sit on bench and hope Mourinho 'maybe but probably not' will see the light.

Oh I don't think that he would be adverse to going to United (even if you are a mid table club) but the point is that we are basing that purely off of conjecture.

Lies for page-views? In the British media? In the Daily Mail no less? Truly shocking.

PSG have a wealth of attacking talent but they have made enquiries. City have no use for him and we won't sell either. Madrid only have Isco who plays in his position ...

Either way Chelsea would rather sell him for a little less (?30m) to a foreign team rather than to direct rivals if they are not getting the player they want in return

Tyton is a liverpool fan if I am not wrong ...

Anyways as exciting as this rumour is, I think we can file it under the 'highly unlikely' section. Chelsea have absolutely no incentive to sell in January but this is something that would generate a lot of noise in the summer I assume

Near enough every reporter seems to be reporting it, putting it under the 'highly unlikely' would be strange because a) what I just said b) Chelsea have let all this gather and haven't denied anything.

If/when Mata arrives, shed a tear for Shinji Kagawa, would you?
He hasn't proven himself good enough to be first team yet, only has himself to blame in that aspect. Hopefully he will improve with a more intricate player like Mata as oppose to someone like Valencia in the side. You could see when we beat Leverkusen away that Kagawa and Nani were linking very well together, and against Swansea at home Shinji linked well with Januzaj second half.

How often did Mata play on the right for Chelsea? I think I can remember him having a great game at OT on the right wing in his first season in the prem and thinking we should have snapped him up. Would be very useful if he can play effectively there.

I dunno, Mourinho is cunning enough, and this'll eventually bring more pressure on Moyes for chasing 'impossible players', so Chelsea wouldn't mind letting it play out. But I'm dreaming anyhow.

But we atleast need one signing in this window, to provide the boost needed :\ Such a shame Pogba will never move back to United.

So Mata has told his friends and family that he's moving to United and apparently you have tabled a ?35m bid for him.

Cool.
