The Manchester United Thread

Mate, I'm more than willing to agree to disagree with you. Just please don't drag me into Zzeezzy, Mike. and Godcubed threesome trying to kick some sense into eachother.

I don't want to blame Moyes.... but he really does my head in.. I think back to his mistakes and how this season is going horribly wrong.

Mata coming in.... great... we need world-class players. But that is one position where we're so strong, fact of the situation is we need to bring in a top class CM so we can dictate to play and feed Mata, this has to be done in this transfer window, as well as a Left Back.

It was poor tonight all round, this is one of the strongest areas on paper in our team, which is the most worrying thing. Not saying he's not a good signing... but we need a CM and LB in this window... no matter whether it's another ?40m to get Gundogan now or paying over the odds for Pjanic or Cabaye.

Steele isn't around to help De Gea through that howler. That's another negative.

Mata is great yes, but like Fellani, not a player that addresses the problems the side or squad has. Esssntially plays in the same space where Rooney is most effective and Janazaj will be, if he stays long term.

United now need CB LB, CM and possible RM, all at 30mil calibre each, to many squad players either cant be motivated by Moyes, or just cant cut it for Man U.

a) The same was said of Van Persie when we signed him. At the time we had Rooney, Hern?ndez, Welbeck and Berbatov. Not to mention Will Keane who was coming up from the youth squad(s), only to be bogged down with a long-term injury. We sold Berbatov and Van Persie helped us win the league.

b) Mata doesn't have to occupy the same space as Rooney. He can play on the left as well. Interchanging with Rooney, who drifts left anyway, allows for better movement. Januzaj on the right, and that can become highly potent.

c) Not all positions need to be ?30 million calibre. That's pretty ridiculous.

Nobody said the side had problems with RVP added to it. if they did they are idiots. RVP only made a team the finished 2nd better, and that got you the league.

Mata wont improve the Def or Cen. Mid where the problems are,

To improve a side like Man United in this market, that price is about what your gonna get quoted, anything less is a squad player nowadays or a potential answer..

Exactly, he improved us to where we wanted to be. At the top. Mata won't win us the league, certainly not this season, but he will improve the squad. It will be an uplifting signing to help better lay the future ahead. With or without Rooney.

And of course he's not going to improve those areas defensively, because that's not what he's being bought for. There's the summer for that. We're (hoping to) sign a high quality player with a proven record to compete at the highest level. He doesn't entirely fit our requirements, but will undoubtedly be a positive addition. That's the crux of it.

See you get it, Most Man United fans are shouting guaranteed 4th, championsareback# saveusmata# lol.

Just a over-reaction IMO.

dont get me wrong if they get the work done transfer wise behind the front lot in the summer its a great looking team bit the person this benefits in the meantime is jose who now has Mata and Lukaku playing everyone but Chelsea till season end..genius.

You mean 3 players who have decided they wont make a move this window? Dortmund wont even talk to anyone right now. Cabaye has promised that he will see out the season and then decide his future. Roma refuse to listen to anyone this window, and dont want to sell him anyway. None of those are on the table. Rakitic is currently batting away talk of moving in Jan. The only mid who is actually looking to move is Guarin.

So lets be clear: You lambast Moyes for chasing the "unattainable" Fabregas, but want him to bid on Gundogan, Cabaye or Pjanic. Three of whom who are almost certainly unattainable this window.

I thought we just rocked up with a ?40m cheque and took a gift wrapped Gundogan back with us?

That barely works in FM14 (I've tried) he's lost it if he thinks its that simple in real life.

Me and you both, Michael.

There's an awful lot of talk that we're increasingly confident about Gundogan in summer (Ogden I think?). Panic buying someone like Guarin, or even Cabaye, just because it's "urgent" when you could wait 6 months for Gundogan would be beyond inept. Patience is a virtue.

Waiting 6 months for a player you most certainly will face a huge fight to get is even more stupid. Probability that Gundogan joins United is not exactly high considering everyone and their uncle will be chasing him in the summer

Maybe he isn't ready? Maybe he isn't performing well in the training ground. Maybe he's got a bad attitude. Who knows.

We had the whole summer to invest. We tried to. We failed. Not Moyes fault. He was ambitious, whats wrong with that?

To be fair, Zaha can hardly be any worse than the 'wingers' United have had on the pitch ... Give the guy a run out. See what he can do

Telegraph reporting that Chelsea have accepted a bid for Mata from United that will see his wages double. Interpret as you wish ... Out of curiousity, was Moyes asked about Mata before/after the match?

BBC confirmed after the game the bid has been accepted so pretty much official now, erm as far as i know he didn't say anything about the deal today

Yes, his comments were in the match programme.

Judging by today's performance, United need a lot more than just Mata. It's like the situation with Arsenal last summer. Oezil was the big marquee signing that galvanised the club, but Flamini was the one that really made the difference.
