The Manchester United Thread

I'm still wondering if we should not have gone for Griezmann. Sociedad were apparently asking 24 Million for him, and considering our winger woes, I'm still thinking it would have been a better deal.. I would rather hate it if Chelsea bought him now, with the funds obtained from selling Mata. We need atleast one typical, good winger and Griezmann probably fit the bill.

Very disappointing performance but the last min goal was wonderful. It's been some time since we scored goal like that.

On Januzaj yesterday, he was having poor game but he never shiyed away from the responsibilities. He asked for the ball and kept on trying. It could have two way effect, him becoming selfish ***** or a player who will show up no matter what. I enjoyed watching him play without any fear.

Oh btw at least this time I wouldn't blame Moyes completely, at least you can sense that he is trying to change the way we play by going for the right kind of players in the transfer market. Players should be ashamed of themselves. Most of them will be very lucky to be playing to ManUtd next season.

Thanks mate. Seems like this deal is going through and it's beyond me ... Just hope we can have replacement lined up and spend the funds wisely

Eh I doubt we are going after Griezmann. Reports linking us to Salah and Barkley who would be brilliant. Funds will also allow us to complete Zouma transfer. But that doesn't take anything away from the fact that this is a very poor piece of transfer business from Chelsea's side ...

I highly doubt Barkley will move to Chelsea, or any other club for that matter. At the very least, until the summer. Martinez unequivocally stated the same, and I believe Barkley reiterated it too. Salah would be good, but I believe Liverpool have also been linked to him for a long while, so that won't be easy for you guys too.

Zouma yes, I've long been a follower and fan of him (shame he's moving to Chelsea >_>), but whether he has the mental maturity to play in the Premier League will remain to be seen..

Telegraph reporting that Chelsea have accepted a bid for Mata from United that will see his wages double. Interpret as you wish ... Out of curiousity, was Moyes asked about Mata before/after the match?

IMO Mata deserves to have his wages doubled. IIRC Chelsea wanted to offer him new contract and talk was they would offer him big wages near to highest earners in the club but for whatever reason it didn't happen.

70K I think he is on, which IMO is too low for the player of his ability going by today's wages for average players.

Of course, the wages he will get at United are nothing short of what his ability commands

Yep I doubt Barkley will move until the summer too ... Not sure on Salah, Liverpool were linked with him for so long but havent managed to do anything so let's see

Interesting point on mental maturity ... Why do you say that? Is that because of th tackle that broke that dude's leg?

Pretty much that. Although, from what I've seen of him, his other bookings seem less, so what do I know, he maybe a good fit. Although, Rafael pretty much likes doing the same thing now, and one can't forget the Euro Final where **** happened by De Jong too.

Interesting article by Marcotti.

Two: Another idiocy going viral is the idea that because David Moyes lacks Sir Alex Ferguson's charisma, they'll face all sort of problems attracting players to the club.

Let's get this straight. The idea that top footballers will look at Moyes and scrunch up their noses is folly. Unless there's a prior history there (good or bad), the identity of the manager is at the bottom of their list of criteria, well behind salary, length of contract, prestige of the club -- and, in this case, it's still Manchester United and the Premier League and 75,000-plus fans at Old Trafford every week -- and playing opportunities.

Probably in that order, in fact.

He made some very good points..

More than any of the other points, the most thinkable point of that post is the tactics, and where Mata fits in.

Also, other rumours abound that we maybe trying to bring in Cavani as a Rooney replacement in the summer.

I don't think Cavani is possible at all. PSG paid 60 Million for him.

Was my first thought too, but apparently Cavani is disenchanted with the French League and the football there. Also, Laurent Blanc and SAF seemingly have a good relationship, so who knows. But meh, this is also mostly unconfirmed, wild rumours.

If we definitely are getting Mata (as seemingly likely), I for one am curious as to how Moyes plays him. Play him completely wide, or forego wingers, and play 3 close-knit AM. Latter seems unlikely for PL, but who knows, lol.

Yeah I read he is not happy playing in the French league but they will look to make at least what they paid for him. Also his wages are around 10 Million net per year according to French paper, that so so out of our league.

Waiting 6 months for a player you most certainly will face a huge fight to get is even more stupid. Probability that Gundogan joins United is not exactly high considering everyone and their uncle will be chasing him in the summer

You cant buy a player in january if the club will not talk to you...
