The Manchester United Thread

Roma apparently already have plans to get Adrian Rabiot in January from PSG. Just praying that is cover incase Strootman leaves, and not incase Pjanic leaves.

Get Strootman in January, and hopefully, Hummels will be our primary target in the summer, depending on whether or not Dortmund can adequately challenge for trophies this season. Reus will most probably move to Bayern, prompting more departures.

With them, our team will be completely set, maybe barring striker, depending on how Rooney is at the end of the season, RvP's injury status and Falcao's debut PL season.

Hummels and Strootman would be great signings.

Personally I don't think Reus would go for Bayern, but don't put your money on it. If he were to leave, my money is on a transfer to United. Chelsea has LW post covered, City would go for it just to screw you over, Madrid and Barcelona are also covered, maybe PSG, but i doubt he would choose PSG over United. He doesn't strike me as a money>football type of player.

IF you get these players, we will have a **** of a fight for the top 4 next year, possibly after winter transfer window.

I'd rather see my team win the title beating off tough competition, rather than seeing a 2 horse race (at best) every year. Sadly this is the tendency in all major leagues at the moment.

If we can get Strootman then we will have arguable the best attacking unit in the league.

Herrera Strootman

Di Maria Mata/Rooney Januzaj

Falcao

This team has everything. 2 hard working CMs who can pick a pass, pace on the wings who can dribble and beat players, creative #10 in Mata and a lethal striker.

He's a German, and for most Germans, their one-stop destination seems to be Bayern Munich. I dunno, if it turns out he actually has a RC, then Dortmund will be hard-pressed in preventing him from joining them. With Ribery slowly losing steam, they probably see him as a perfect replacement.. If Reus hasn't signed a new contract by December, ideally, Dortmund should sell in January.

Also, I dunno, Reus will make us more lethal, but will be at the expense of Januzaj, and I'm not sure I want to see that. Januzaj, if retains his professionalism and keeps his head down and trains hard, can become World Class really easily. I'd be more happy to see Januzaj in the lineup than I'd be to see Reus, tbh//

With Hummels and Strootman, our team ideally will be complete, in almost all aspects. It's scary. My dream transfer window this time around was Hummels, di MAria and Vidal. But I'll happily take Strootman and Hummels next year xD

Also, the only league where competition exists (in the top few leagues) is England, and to an extent Spain. Here, United, Chelsea, City an Arsenal are always title contenders (if you exclude us in this year after Moyes' disastrous turn last year). Then there is Liverpool, who had a good last season, propelling them also back into the top 4, and Tottenham to give serious competition. Nowhere else do you see this, et all.. Spain comes closest with Barca, RM and AM. Germany is only Bayern Munich (I don't count Dortmund, because they simply can't compete with Bayern, and their best players are invariably poached). In France, it's just PSG.

Probably, after BPL, in terms of high competitiveness, Portugal comes close? Dunno much about it, though..

Nice, I'd actually love to see that, but 4-2-3-1? LvG loves the Ajax philosophy, and Ajax philosophy (and by extension Barca) prioritises the Pivot. I suspect it'll eventually be a 4-3-3, if Daley Blind impresses.

Blind
Herrera----- Strootman
di Maria---------------Mata/Januzaj
RvP/Falcao/Rooney

4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 are somewhat similar. Van Gaal himself said he likes 4-3-3 and in his 4-3-3, 3 consists of #6 (DM), #8 (Box to Box) and a #10. Not 3 CMs. So it would be Blind, Herrera and Mata.

Yeah, a DM, a Box-To-Box and a playmaker. Which is is Blind (DM), Strootman (BTB) and Herrera (playmaker). Strootman is a better box to box than Herrera, and Herrera has more positional sense playing as a CM than Mata.. While Mata can be rather good cutting inside from the wings. I suppose 4-2-3-1 while attacking, with either box-to-box/playmaker surging upfront, reverting to a 4-3-3 while defending..

Manchester United - No Surgery for Dutch Star

So, no surgery for RvP? We have a strike force of RvP, Falcao and Rooney, plus Wilson...

You got yourself into a Cech or Curtois situation :D. If he continues with 3-5-2 (which most of the times looks like (3-4-1-2), I think Mata or RVP will be sacrificed. You simply cannot remove Fletcher for example and move Mata a bit back to make room for all 3 strikers, with Rooney as #10.
I won't even go as far as saying he will switch to 4-3-3, because that causes even more problems.

One does not buy Falcao to not use him in first 11... ;) What that means for RVP idk, a possible partner in 3 5 2 setup and Rooney playing elsewhere.. No.10 at the expense of Mata only thing I can think of at the moment.

But then again I'm pretty sure Falcao plays best when he's an out and out striker, not in 2 striker formation. So if we went 4 3 3 that really would ask questions about Rooney, who could play as the CM/AM further forward than the other 2 in the pivot probably.

But tbh I think it's good to have competition for places because Rooney hasn't really impressed me over first 3 games and he shouldn't have a fixed starting spot.

"I am proud to be a Man United player... we were in talks for some months"

So much for Panic signing and Woody getting last min call.

It's just a great shame we can't attract world class players like Lallana and Lambert, we've had to settle for Di Maria and Falcao ;(

Still feel 4-3-3 is the way to go now, especially now that we've got Blind, and Herrera will be back. Brings back the question about what happens to Rooney, but ****, Rooney has looked completely lost since the League started, and would probably be better on the midfield or wings.

Of course, 3-4-1-2 may look a whole lot better once our primary wingbacks Shaw and Rafael are back to take over from Valencia and Young.. But in a 3-5-2, where the **** will di Maria play, if Blind also plays as a DLP? And Herrera? And most importantly, what about Januzaj? That's been worrying me since a while - I'm not concerned about playing time, I'm hoping he'll get that, but where does he fit in?

Rooney should be dropped, not shifted out wide just to keep in the team because he's **** there and I'd rather see januzaj or mata there any day of the week.

Sighs you do realise his agent is Jorge Mendes right? His representatives were probably in talks with Madrid, United and probably 2-3 other clubs for a few months. Doesn't change the fact that he was only truly available once his move to Madrid broke down on the transfer deadline day otherwise don't you think United would have signed him earlier?

Not that I am claiming this is a panic buy of any sort but doesn't change the fact that he was offered to clubs all around Europe after his move broken down on deadline day hence, the last minute call. No doubt you will now start pointing out all the various 'assumptions' I have made ...

Be careful. These word might come and bite you in the *** if Liverpool finish higher again :P
