The Manchester United Thread

Good result after being goal down till 93rd min, at last we got decision in favor against Chelsea and if there is one player who deserved red many times but escaped it was Ivanovic, so in the end I'm happy that he got 1 when he didn't deserve.

Fellaini was very good, made Fabregas completely invisible in the game. Him and Blind. It was a good tactical battle, man to man marking was good. Also Fellaini vs Matic was good, that physical battle at the end which Fellaini sort of won. He is improving, it's all a confidence thing and after making game changing play for 2 consecutive a games hopefully he is back to his best.

Also RVP was really **** for their goal. He should have stopped it, should have scored first goal and should have played Mata through. At the end he made a good contribution. He looked much better than in previous games which is a big plus.

De Gea was just excellent, aerial bombardment and he barely missed anything. Caught every single ball and made excellent saves. Smalling was good too. Rojo was just poor.

The late goals starting to comeback and so will the fear factor of going to Old Traford

Realistically speaking, that will still take some time. It wasn't just late goals that gave the fear-factor at OT. It was our whole attitude, our game, our players and the passion-play. Those will take some time, but it will happen.

Decent draw i guess and i knew smalling/rojo would look more stable as i think rojo/jones just won't work imo one or the other with someone else.

Di Maria was bit **** and januzaj was very good.

Yeah not Di Maria best today, but whipped in a great cross at the end. Januzaj showed improvement from WBA game which was good. Thought Rojo and Smalling were pretty good. And Wilson looked sharp as well, good to see him get mins. Happy with draw could of won, but draw was good as most were expecting us to get blown away. Not me though :)

Smalling is a weird one, alot of games i'd come away thinking he is our best/future cb and then he'll look poor but with jones when he is poor, he's erratic, rash and just doesn't seem to have a football brain.

All in all at his best smalling is the more assured cb imo.

Jones defends with his mind going at 100mph. The talent is there to see but he's too rash.

Smalling in his first couple of years was a very good player to have and he played above his years. I don't think he has developed to what at age 25 he should be at but he again has talent and games like today show he can cope at this level.

What they need is a consistent run of games, for injuries to subside and to gain an understanding. Today we defended well as a unit which we haven't done much for a long time.

Old Trafford is a beautiful stadium I must say. Now topped the emirates as the best premier league ground I have been to.

Fellaini was very good, thought this was probably his best game for ManUtd.

It was evident in the early moments of the game. Headed clearances were cheered. A strong tackle to stop Eden Hazard as he closed in on goal drew loud roars from the Old Trafford crowd. The confidence gained from his performance at the Hawthorns seems to have impacted on the player and the supporters.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho might have anticipated dominating the midfield zone. Daley Blind is a tidy playmaker but far from a powerful presence, while Nemanja Matic has proven himself to be a dominant force so far this season. But the inclusion of Fellaini for his first start under Louis van Gaal changed the dynamic.

Playing slightly from the left of midfield but closing down Cesc Fabregas high up the field when he had chance, Fellaini worked hard to stop the man who prompts Chelsea from deep. Fabregas completed only three passes in the first 20 minutes and just 11 in the whole first half.

Given that the Spaniard has played more passes than anybody else in the Premier League, it was remarkable that United were able to stop him getting on the ball

The Premier League tracking data shows that Fellaini covered 12.17 kilometres in the match, the most by any United player, and made 70 high-intensity runs. That was more than anyone else on the pitch and, tellingly, the most he has made in any game in a United shirt.

Fellaini was excellent yesterday.

Near the end of the game still at 1-0, Fabregas ran into the box with the ball I was fearful that he'd get a penalty. Rafael reigned himself in well but I still get a feeling Fellaini is more likely to get done for fouls because of his size. What was very pleasing is that he blocked the space for Fabregas to go and timed his tackle to perfection. He was full of confidence and executed his strengths whereas that was the sort of situation where he'd get jittery and give away the foul.

Latest rumours are that we've dropped our interest in Hummels, and focussing on Garay, while Arsenal still remain interested. Sounds ridiculous, considering Garay just joined his new club and won't be cheap, and Hummels is so, so much better. If true, however, kinda disappointing to be frank, actually;; Considering the kind of season Dortmund are having, and the likelihood of Reus leaving next year, we really should go all out for Hummels.

We need a good defender, who can generally stay fit, and Hummels ticks all those boxes. Two of Evans, Jones and Smalling are always injured at any given point of time, and our defence is continuing to be makeshift, with no stable CB pair. Probably can get by for now, but we definitely need a new CB in the summer, especially when we're back in the CL.
