The Manchester United Thread

Tbf on falcao you have a season to decide get him fit get him playing then April/May time make a decision then

Discuss?

Manchester United are just four points from the top four. That is the headline that the glass half-full supporters are clinging to amidst the club's worst start to a league season in 28 years. They've been rotten at times, but are still within touching distance of their realistic ambition. As for the talk from Luke Shaw and co that the title is still a possibility, we're simply not having it.That said, a change must come soon. United have won just three of their 11 matches this season, and only two clubs (Real Madrid and Manchester City) have ever spent more in a single transfer window than United did this summer. The average current league position of United's league opponents is 10.7. Aston Villa, the new crisis club, are three points behind them having faced opposition with an average current league position of 8.0. It's all about perception.
There is also an odd sense of self-created pluckiness to United, alien under Alex Ferguson. 'We're playing well, so don't worry' seems to be the message, as if playing well is enough. Performances are secondary to results, and the whole 'hard luck, chaps' idea is baffling. This is Manchester effing United. United don't get lucky, they get better.
That air of assumed negativity was epitomised in a recent quote from Chris Smalling. "How we played against the league leaders showed that we can go to any team and cause problems," was Smalling's message. West Brom aim to cause problems - United should only be aiming to win.
Far more positive were the thoughts of Michael Carrick, who will presumably play as a central defender against Crystal Palace on Saturday.: "It's nowhere near good enough for where we want to be. We look at our points total and we're bitterly disappointed with the amount of points we've got."
Carrick is right. The time to talk performances has now passed. Now only victories will do for United - Palace at home, Arsenal away, Hull at home, Stoke at home, Southampton away. Anything less than 11 points from the next five matches should be treated as cause for significant alarm. DS

Ya. I agree that things need to turn around quickly. There's no much room for error anymore. Van Gaal may be notorious slow starter, but most of his clubs had European games to deal in addition to the league. Here he gets full week to fine tune his tactics, so if the ****** results continuee, slow starting won't be be a viable excuse for much longer.

I'd take 4th but i wouldn't consinder that a success especially if no FA cup comes with it, 4th is the minimum a manager like LVG should get with some of these players and the money spent.

LVG has said Evans,Jones,Falcao not ready for this week. Rojo had good news could be back in 6 weeks after seeing specialist. Was not happy with defensive frailties playing the diamond, hence the change in formation felt oppo WBs were getting to much joy. Also saying peoples expectations are unrealistic and things don't happen over night. Also said was fed up with people going on about our defence, saying that if you take Leicester result out our record is same as Chelseas. Also said something about I am here for 3 years to transform club or something like that.

Goes without saying. Di maria has been pretty poor out wide was hoping we'd go back to the diamond.

Don't think he's been poor on the left, definitely agree with the right. He had to be switched to the right flank early on because of Smalling's red card in the last match, was looking menacing on the left before that. He will make an impact on the left for sure, RVP and Rooney would definitely latch onto some of those crosses that he puts in so regularly from the left.

Hoping for goals against Palace, the last time we scored more than 2 in a game and won it was QPR.

Strange that the diamond seems to have gone and the 352 both formations pretty much revolved around using rooney, rvp and later on falcao, i've always thought even the last season or two under fergie that a return to some sort of 4-3-3 is needed.

The two striker systems can work but you need one **** of a midfield.

I'll be really disappointed if Van Persie starts again.... please LVG give Wilson a good chance. Judging by United's facebook it will be RVP and Rooney again.

There is nothing to ROFL. He didn't say that, he said if we ignore the freak result (which wont happen for 100 years again) then we have better defensive record than Chelsea. I think Chelsea can argue if Everton game is ignore than theirs is even better.

This is a direct quote:

"If you don't count the five goals at Leicester, we have been better than Chelsea I believe."

Actual quote.

Guardian said:
“when you don’t count the five goals of Leicester City, we have [conceded] less than Chelsea”

ESPN said:
"I don't agree with your opinion of the defence," he said. "If you don't count the five goals at Leicester, we have better than Chelsea I believe. That's not the problem, the balance is. That is why I have remodelled the structure of my team.
