The Manchester United Thread

Just saw the highlights, United were in complete control. Very nice game, probably one of the best this season.

On Sunday Supplement this morning there talking about agents fees. To my surprise we have one of the lowest agent fee outgoings from the top half of the prem especially with the money we spent this season and some of the big names we have signed. This is from 2013 to date. Just more good work going unnoticed by Ed Woodward imo.

And people wonder (most opposition fans who just hate United) why Carrick gets picked for England as soon as he's back fit..... best English holding midfielder out there by a mile right now, no one comes close.

Hopefully the cub give him that 1yr extension soon as other clubs can start talking to him in Jan.

Yeh definitely, important player, on and off the pitch. Don't think he'd be in any rush to look elsewhere, I think he loves it at United, the impression I get every time I hear him in interviews.

Anderson told to get fit by United boss Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has challenged Anderson to get fit if he wants to save his Unitedcareer.

The Brazilian has not played since August and with his contract up in the summer he is unlikely to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

With Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind and Darren Fletcher ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, the chances of Anderson appearing in a red shirt again are slim.

However, Van Gaal has told the 26-year-old, whose fitness has been ridiculed during his seven-and-a-half years at the club, to prove himself.

"He’s now coming back," Van Gaal said .

"He was injured but he’s training now with the team. I cannot say what had happened last year but in my four months here, he’s had a lot of injuries.

"So I cannot judge him but when he trains he trains at a good level. He’s not always fit and that is more his problem now.

"I can’t pick him now because you have to be fit. For the first three months the culture of a trainer is fitness. That is the smallest thing you can demand. Professional league fitness. Fitness is the most important thing. First you have to show your fitness. Not for just one day but for several weeks."

I see Zzeezzy has gone quiet about Mangala. Apart from his first game he looked shaky.

>_> He made Fellaini a viable option once more, Smalling has been decent the past two games, Young was good at wingback whenever he played, criticism of Rooney has reduced, he has given chances to two potentially excellent CB in Blackett and McNair;; But if manages to convert the Anderson of today into something resembling the Anderson of Yore, then ****** ****! - LvG will be '****** frickin' great'!

I didn't rave about Mangala, I know perfectly well the priority was an experienced CB in the summer, but there is still no getting away from the fact Mangala is a young defender with a lot of potential, ok he's struggling so far, but to be quiet honest it's to be expected, coming from a foreign League at his age.

Also lets not kid ourselves, Vincent Kompany was shaky at the start, we all know how that turned out, he's one of the best CB's in the world now.

Also, anyone hear any news of de Gea signing a new deal? All I can find atm are rumours that are just re-hashes of old ones (including something about him rejecting a contract extension);; Madrid pursuing one of our top players is bringing back altogether bad memories..

But Rojo is just 1 year older than Mangala and you didn't rate the signing IIRC.

Kompany didn't struggle. He was DM and later was played as CB.

An Evra comparision would probably be slightly more on the mark, considering both are french defenders, albeit different positions/roles.

Also, rumours that we've agreed on a deal to sign Victor Valdes in the summer, after he finished his rehabilitation. Apparently as a backup to de Gea.

My 11 for Stoke would be the same team but swap Herrera for Di Maria due to injury. Apart from that keep it the same.

I think an interesting question is if Blind was not injured would he even get in the team right now? Carrick IMO has fitted seamlessly in and been very good.

Will be a lot of rotation between the 2. LVG clearly loves Blind and his ability to adapt to any of his tactical changes or phyilosphy. Blind will always be in team imo.

Rumours are Rafa and Evans will be back for Stoke game, I mean in the squad :)

Rafael only just came back into training today so I highly doubt he'll get into the squad. Evans completed 90 minutes today for the U21's so once again, I can't see him being in the squad.

I'd expect them both to be back in contention for Southampton next Monday though.
