The Manchester United Thread

Honestly don't understand why people are calling for another top/world class striker like Cavani.. Say we do buy him and we keep this 4-3-3 going, that means Rooney will have to drop into midfield probably replacing Fellaini and risking losing the balance and aerial presence... I agree that we do need another striker but maybe not one of quite so much quality that he'd be expecting to play, Danny Ings is a decent shout.
I agree mate. Ings would be good shout young, english, top work rate, not bad finisher or technique and would be a bargain at about 4m.

Doing the rounds this morning Young close to new contract after agreeing to take a pay cut to stay at the club.

However, United have received a boost, as Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has backed his current #1 Iker Casillas.

‘Iker was very clear, he wants to stay. We want him to. I want him to,’ said Ancelotti.

‘He doesn’t need protection. Iker has broad shoulders and is a great professional.’

Casillas has come in for some criticism from his home crowd recently, after a few poor performances, but these latest comments coupled with United’s brilliant results recently could yet persuade David de Gea to stay on at United.

Man Utd handed huge boost regarding David de Gea | Old Trafford Faithful Cant see De Gea going to Madrid as Carlo and Perez have both said that Cassillas will be number one for the near future in the last couple of days.

If we stick with RVP I'll be gutted, we should be aiming to be challenging on all fronts next season, even CL if we're back in it.

Also I'd be horrified if the best we can find for another striker is ****** Danny Ings.

Thing is, I think RVP would be a good back up to Rooney in a 4-3-3. That system would get the best out of RVP, and I think he may be content to play second fiddle to Rooney - he'll get plenty of minutes anyway if we have more games to play. The only negative is the high wage he's on.

We are allowed to buy a top striker and use him from the bench / rotate with Rooney. Van Gaal has shown that he will keep the likes of Falcao on the bench, but I would expect us to sign a forward for the long term as a Rooney replacement, or a forward that can also play wide like Neymar, Messi and Suarez can. Firmino looks capable of this but I haven't seen anywhere near enough of him.

I cant see us signing a Cavani or Benzema type signing. But someone like Firmino,Dybala,Ings,Berahino ilk that are happy being 2nd/3rd choice.

Just my opinion but I think RVP would hamper this system as he pace, pressing, work rate and his movement has not been the best for nearly 2 seasons. I also don't think he would be happy being number 2 most of the time.

I think his movement is good, he just hasn't had much space to work with as he's played mostly alongside Falcao who moves into similar areas. Rooney has been holding the ball up, linking with the midfield and finding space in the box - all things I see RVP very capable of. I would want to keep him if his wages were lower, but you may well be right about him being happy to play as a number 2, he may just want first team football given his age.

Also, I don't see us signing an expensive out and out striker, but the links to Cavani won't go away. I'd love Lewandowski personally but it would be difficult to play him and Rooney in this system.

If we do lose RVP,Falcao,Hernandez it will be tough to find a good enough number 2 happy being benched quite a lot of the season.

Van Gaal won't rotate Rooney and he said it many times. For him captain should always play.

Considering Klopp will be leaving, we really should be going in full guns for Hummels. Gundogan is another option, unlikely that we'll be in for Reus, although top clubs will be up in arms for him.

Problem is, if Klopp moves to City, they maybe in for them too. Which makes **** all the more problematic.

Doubtful, City need young homegrown players. They can't buy everyone.

Being a Liverpool fan this is my fear :(

City has many pressing issues, pretty much everywhere. I expect them to sign one big player, and he would be a midfielder. I doubt they will add another 30m + defender in two windows and Kompany is still there. They will add some backups for those two. Their midfield is terrible. Yaya is not arsed half of the season, Fernandinho is whack other half of the season. Milner is pretty much gone. Who else do they have there? They will need a winger as well, probably a striker too if Dzeko and Jovetic leave. I can't see them spending that much.

Do we, why? Lamps and Milner leaving, Denayer, Lopes and Rekik are all returning. All meet the criteria. The papers are pushing this due to the FA revision plan which will never get off the ground before 2017 at least.

I would highly expect us to do in close to 150mil though, not counting the money for sold players anyway. A FB, A CM, A Winger and A striker. Fernando and Fernadinho are solid enough when the play together as shown in the Roma games, when either has to cover Yaya, they're ******.
