The Manchester United Thread

We need at least 4 players in with 24 hours left....

I'd say at minimum GK, additional attacking player of some kind whether that be a winger/striker whatever (as well as Martial).

Anything else is hard to see at this point, as much as I'd like a CB as well.

Cb is what we needed most going into the summer and that hasn't changed imo, well apart from a striker now we've let so many go.

It wasn't likely that we would find a goalkeeper of the standards you have mentioned. Not this window, or at least without an extortionate fee being involved. Navas is the best possible answer to an drawn-out issue that should have ended before the season started.

Casillas is "only" 6'1 too.
That's exactly why we've signed just Cech this window. There's no point in buying unless the new player is better than what you already have. Casillas had amazing diving, anticipation, reflexes and a bullet throw, which made up for his lack of height and poor handling. Casillas was also the king of one on ones! Navas has a decent kicking distance for his height and top quality reflexes. He can't catch to save his life and parrys the ball into opposition strikers. He also isn't the best at commanding his area. He's a capable keeper though, however he is a noticeable step down on De Gea.

So we are offloading quite a few players in the last few days of the window and is looking to sign a few too?

Someone should get LVG off the phone with Harry.

Tbf i don't think LVG is to blame here, if woody wasn't living in a dream world of chasing bale etc we would have had nearly everything done.

Probably, maybe. I don't know?

I dont think anyone does bar LVG

I'd add 'keeper before all of that given the summer long inedibility of this day. Well, to everyone outside of Utd fans clinging to hope.

Do need one defo, my opinion hasn't changed from the start but I haven't got optimism we're getting one.

I'm just being practical here. Last minute goalkeeper transfers are problematic by themselves, and on top of that foreign goalkeepers always struggle to adapt to PL's aerial bombardment. I don't think United can afford signing a midget goalkeeper who may take half a year to adapt. Casilla can walk in and play his best on day one, because this is what he does. He's great shot stopper and a big, commanding figure at the back.

Jakub B is going to fiorentina.

Type his last name, where is your adventurous spirit!

A lot of people would have argued anyone who we signed was going to be a step down. Even if it was Cech, or Lloris, or Cillesen. There would be an incessant flurry of negativity around them before they even pulled on the shirt.

Navas is a fine replacement for the time being, and there is little to suggest that he isn't capable enough to do a great job. He would do just fine. Picking out his apparent flaws doesn't change that fact either.

I'm not going to insult him by mangling his name!

That's actually really good. I mean, ******* irritating its happening today rather than a month ago.

But still.

Apparently 40M is including Navas fee. So it's like 30M + Navas.
