The Manchester United Thread

Leaving Madrid with a great backup and United with Romero? Seems unlikely. Unless they're going to keep playing for their respective clubs until Jan, which makes even less sense because then they'll both be cuptied for the CL.

Madrid will be ok, United can play Valdes or Romero in the CL with no problem.

Whos Madrids backup for Navas?

It's just another possible outcome I've seen mentioned, but my opinion is still that the deal won't happen. I can't see the LFP allowing it.

Dead as a dodo.

Good luck to them with their orphan Keylor Navas who they've just had to shelter again.

ManUtd everything right and even registered Navas but somehow both clubs end up looking like morons? lol.

There is nothing ManUtd could have done, Madrid waited till deadline day and made acceptable bid and ****** it up.

I thought Valdes has a bust up with LvG and was persona non grata at Old Trafford?

Madrid have Casilla. They've been panic buying all the best GK prospects ever since Casillas starting to go downhill.

Don't think anyone is putting any blame on United for this now. Madrid are coming out of it terribly though.

Florentino Perez is addressing media in few hours, this sould be good.

I would be more comfortable with Johnstone than Romero playing as #1.

Valdes seem to have sorted it by most reports, but we'll see.

Unless they agree to a CL gentlemans agreement and get the deal done in Jan instead, i think United have stronger options at GK than Madrid do looking at it.

Yep, bear in mind he will be with spain for 2 games too, which will do him good

I hear yer, but as much as you can't have a player like that being paid to sit on the bench, it's still a risky move don't yer think?

Even if he played for Spain, he's still not played for what, over a month now? So he'd not going to be anything like match sharp. And then there's the Romero situation. He's done relatively well through his 6 games. To suddenly drop him because the windows now shut and De Gea's gone nowhere would be real harsh on him and doesn't send out the best message to the rest of the squad.

Honestly wouldn't like to be Van Gaal in that situation. (Presuming he decides he's now 'in the right frame of mind.').

As long as he doesnt think about.... De Gea was looking at playing his next club game at the Bernabeu in the Champions League. Could yet be against Chelsea's U21s at Aldershot.

I thought De Gea was on a relatively low wage on United anyway only 70k per week? Which is low for a player like him. If only he had accepted the new contact for better terms.

Romero had a howler against Swansea that cost a goal, he deserved to be dropped for that alone. Terrible mistake, should of saved it.

It's a tough call, but De Gea should be re-instated when his head is back in it. Reports painted him as a distraught figure, so who knows what his frame of mind is like right now. He'd be getting **** from the gf too. If he gets himself focused, it won't be too long though.

DDG is the better 'keeper, so he should start when ready.

United should do what Dortmund did with Lewandowski and increase De Gea's wages for last 12 months. That should sweeten the blow.

The blow in having to work to his very well paid contract already? **** that. He's a professional.

Yeh, no. That would be bad idea, he can't take more wages just to act 'professional', we offered him a new contract and he didn't take it so he can get stuffed now if he's going to act like that.

Madrid/Mendes have ****** up his transfer, take it out on them, I expect him to come back and play for the shirt again on the contract he has agreed to. 70k per week is by means a bad wage.

He's on 70k a week. If he can play for spain, he can play for United. It's not sudden at all H'es the number one keeper and the stance has been the same from the start. he would play after the window if he was here. Number one keeper in recall shocker.

Dortmund did that? Really?

Never knew that. Interesting approach. I guess it paid off with his output and the Champions League spot. But that could of been one highly costly error on top of turning down the fee.

Exactly my point. He acted professional and respected the club by not forcing out a transfer. He's must be devastated with the whole thing as apparently he was already celebrating in Madrid with his GF when the whole thing fell apart. He needs something to pick him up , and there aren't many woes that extra million $ a year won't fix .

And he's hardly well paid for a player of this caliber.
