The Manchester United Thread

Depay is just settling in. Needs to learn that the defence in the Premier League is a lot better than the defence in Eredivisie so needs to change up how he plays a bit. Nothing to worry about at the moment.

Wonder how many times Ronaldo lost the ball during his first few games.

Blind's yet to be tested but that's partly to do with the way we defend as a unit with him in the side.

Ironically, without him in the side we'd probably see a lot more one v one battles at the back which is something we want to avoid. I'm more than happy to say that so far, he's proved me wrong about him playing as a centre-back.

Not quite true, he has been tested especially against Swansea when Gomis got at him a few times and he did look a bit shaky in that game.

Thats not the point footie356 is making tho is it? They re not doubting or even blaming Depay. Rather they are saying that he's the only pacey attacking player and as a result he gets double teamed and then the whole team looks sluggish in attack.

Actually he was the better of the defensive united that game
Blind's positioning against Benteke was brilliant. Benteke didnt even win his one on one duels. so the lack of support form liverpool players cannot be used as an excuse there.

The more I see of Blind at CB, the more I like it to be honest. Yes, he's small (So is Mascherano) but he distributes the ball well and his reading of the game is quite excellent IMO.

He compliments Smalling so well.

Yeah, all the best centerback pairings that I've seen were like this. One clever game reader with good ball skills+ one brick wall with no bullshit approach.

Rio and Vidic. Terry and Carvalho. Baresi and Costacurta. Puyol and Pique. Cananvaro+Thuram. Nesta+Stam

The list goes on.

Mixing it up on the other hand, doesn't really work. Look at how Pique has fallen now that he doesn't play with centerback that would fit his skillset. Maldini and Nesta at CB never really worked as good as you would expect from that pairing, either. Perhaps there was too much game reading and not enough simply hoofing it out.

With a complete lack of service and support, I'd of fancied my chances of dealing with Benteke on his island Sat'day.

You can only play what's in front of you and Blind did all that was asked. But there's a lot more needs to be taken into consideration when Utd had next to nottin' to defend.

Easy game for Carrick and the German to protect the back line Saturday and control play in that area as L'pool had nobody within 10 yards of them most the game.

Again, you can only play what's in front of you but hard to make much of a concise judgement on anything with the opposition being both so lacklustre and tactilly all over the place. If there was even a tactical plan to begin with which is debatable as the shape was absolutely non-existent.

These kind of posts makes win even sweeter :D

You hyped the game for 2 weeks and now this.

Naturally. I don't think there's many that weren't shocked by just how poor the game was and just how insipid both sides were. L'pool were a disgrace and Utd were little better. But a win is a win against your fiercest rivals so you milk it to the extreme.

Enjoy the spoils.

It's hard to play against team that plays with 9 players in the box defending. So wonder first half was so ****.

At least second half was better once Liverpool had to come out of their own box.

Not debating how equally poor in your own way Utd were as you'll only get your back up as is your normal want.

So again, congratulations. L'pool deserved nottin'. Enjoy the spoils of victory.

No, no, no, its not like Liverpook deserved nothing. United deserved to win and we did.

Don't care anyways, just that some of your posts are gems.

Feels **** good to have a match to look forward to again so soon after a morale boosting win against Liverpool, hopefully we can kick on and start off with a win in this group like we mean to go on.

Something we missed last season. 3 games in a week is fantastic to watch.

Hey, at least the goals did justice to how this fixture used to be. But otherwise, yeah, the game was really uninspired. Liverpool coming in to draw is embarrassment in itself, and United didn't do much better.

The classic derby is dying breed, too many foreigners and not enough locals in the squads. **** like this is happening everywhere. About a year ago my local team played our fiercest rivals. The reporter ask one of the players how does he feel about playing in such a high tension game. He said "well yeah, the guys in the squad looked in up online, so we know what this fixture means". I'm sorry, but if you have to look it up online an hour before walking on the pitch, you don't understand what it means at all. And you're not going to look the part, either.

First L'pool/ Utd game in the Premiership with out one of either Giggs or Gerrard playing. And no local lads in either line-up.

Sad stats.
