The Manchester United Thread

With the January window coming up soon, what are your guys thoughts?

Will we buy someone, sell someone?

What I hope our lineup will be in January

GK: De Gea/Romero

RB: Darmian/Valencia

CB: Jones/McNair

CB: Smalling/???

LB: Shaw/Rojo

CDM: Schneiderlin/Carrick

CDM: Schweinsteiger/Blind

RAM: Mahrez/Lingard

CAM: Mata/Herrera

LAM: Memphis/Young

ST: Rooney/Martial

Even tho I think Martial will start either ST/LAM before Memphis or Rooney

Would like to see Blind back in midfield instead of Fellaini and another CB instead of Blind

Players in: Mahrez/or Januzaj back? and another CB?

Players out: Fellaini (Needs playtime)

Mahrez would be nice. Just carry on where he left off at Leicester. Januzaj should still be here and in this schedule would have got games. Waste of time at Dortmund.

Januzaj has 15 games, 1 goal, 3 assist and 667' minutes played for Dortmund, not sure LVG would've given him that much playtime if he didn't go on loan? not sure :(

Not fussed about Januzaj, he won't make one bit of difference.

Mahrez or Mane could be game changes though, they are for their current club but who knows once they play in an LVG side.

Thing is, i can't really put my finger on van gaal's system or what his system revolves around...

It seems like we are torn in between possession, counter attacking and direct play

There was this thing that happened in the first half vs psv that pretty much sums up what i'm talking about...

Psv corner, smallings heads away...memphis breaks with the ball...he stop and passes it back to schneiderlin

Schneiderlin to darmian...darmian with a long diagonal ball to rooney(which he couldn't get to)

Louis van gaal doesn't have a definite style of football, this isn't even total football as it sounds...

Isn't everybody? Even Pep's Bayern will counter furiously if there's an opening, and the defenders will hoof it straight to Lewandowski if they see an opening. System is just a platform, but players are expected to make intelligent decisions and take the opportunities that arise.

At this point I'm convinced that LVG thinks his attacking talent simply isn't good enough, so he went back to basics and plays full grind-mode. And I'm inclined to agree. Its easy to demand that team attacks more, but attack with who? Memphis is ****. Rooney is ****. Mata is great, but he's not an attacking winger in any traditional sense of the word. Herrera is out. Martial has his moments but you can't build your entire gameplan around a teenager, it'd be madness.

That leaves...nobody really.

He had a transfer window to sort this all out.

He sold di maria and didn't bother to get a replacement...

He also let falcao go, sold van persie and chicharito and brought in a 19 year old...

I blame van gaal really...i also blame van gaal for memphis' bad form

Memphis is basically having the exact same problem that di maria had last season

He basically looks like the di maria of last season on the pitch...getting pushed around by defenders and losing the ball often

It's amazing to look at his physique and say he's being bullied off the ball easily

So di maria wasn't really to blame?

Just look at our attacking depth for a moment...

Aren't you ignoring the 20 milllion/season elephant in the room? Your (former) superstar game changer captain is useless. He has two goals and no assists. This is nuclear level of decline. You're paying him money than Suarez or Aguero make, but the way Rooney is playing, I would prefer having Suarez on a wheelchair.

Rooney not performing puts tremendous pressure on both Memphis and Martial to deliver. Young as they are, they're not always going to be able to cope with that.

Also, Falcao is ****, Chicharito had a chance and he was ****, and Van Persie doesn't even always make the first squad in Turkey. Those are the guys that would somehow solve all the problems?

Precisely.

Would have definitely kept him of those 3 at least, valuable goals if he's given a real chance. Surely 10 in 15 for Bayer including 4 in 5 in the UCL this season means he would have got us at least a few goals where needed, like the PSV game. Imagine him coming on instead of Fellaini, world of difference between them as scoring options and how that would affect our style. Didnt even get a huge fee for him, would have definitely been used as an attacking point in this squad.

EDIT: Utd have scored 5 in the UCL group stage, he has scored 4 himself. Clueless sale imo after a clueless loan spell

You're not getting my point...i mean now we are relying on martial and rooney rather than martial, rooney, falcao, van persie and chicha.

We've got no debt. When you shed dead weights, its only logical to go out and look for replacements!

Icardi was there...if he wanted another young striker, aboubaker or beradi...

Schweinsteiger and Carrick away from home against team that plays with pace and power, Arsenal written all over it.

I for see something similar to that arsenal disaster...LOL

On a side note, The cherries vs Everton...What a finish!!

Got me off my seat even tho i'm fan of neither team

Lot of possibilities, I think it's 4-2-3-1 with Darmian McNair Smalling Blind in the defense.

Might also change to McNair Smalling Blind Darmian defense.

Nah...its 3 at the back...

Hopefully big dave can come up with some big saves...

Playing 3 at the back vs this leicester team away is madness
