All our signings except Schweinsteiger are young/ish players with minimum of 7-8 years left in the tank.

This is why I don't get those who try to defend LVG by saying this is a bad squad, it is a thin squad yes but that was LVG's choice. He doesn't like having too many players due to not being able to keep all of them motivated.

If Fergie had this team with the proven pedigree of Rooney, Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Mata and De Gea whilst having the likes of Pereira, Depay, Martial, Shaw etc. to build this team on he would of tore this league to shreds.
 
Nobody is saying this is a bad squad. It's a good squad, but missing a few key ingredients every top team needs.

Namely, it's missing a superstar game changer, it's missing competent fullbacks through all the injuries, and it's currently missing a ball distributor that would fit possession style.

Next year when Shaw recovers and you make 1-2 good additions, they can very well run away with the league.

GKs- DDG/Romero
FBs- Darmian/Shaw/Varela
CBs- Smalling/Rojo/McNair/TFM
CMs- Schweiny/Herrera/Schniederlin/Blind/Periera
AMLCRs Mata/Lingard/Memphis/Januzaj
STRs Rooney/Martial/Wilson

Sell Fellaini/Valencia/Young/Powell/Jones/Blackett
Buy 1 CB 1 Winger and a couple good youngsters for the futre that can slot into first team Sanchez/Goncales etc.

The thing is, this applies to 4/5 clubs. I can understand why United fans are concerned, because if half of those get their **** together and they don't, they could easily drop out of the CL places.

Romero...hmm, would rather see someone from academy than this guy.
McNair is terrible. Full ******* stop. He needs to go. Get at least 3 CB. Sell Jones, get someone to pair with Smalling, move Blind to CM/LB/CB for cover. Though I don't mind seeing Blind with Smalling, I want someone better.
That midfield is very light. Need someone dynamic to complement slow attack/midfield.
Attacking players are way to slow. Only fast player is Memphis, and he's not that fast. Need some pace. Both Mata and Januzaj aren't very direct players for different reasons. One will pass the ball around, other doesn't know what to do with the ball.
Martial will play on the wing. Wilson needs a loan. I'll reserve judgement on Rooney at the end of the season. We need another striker in both cases ( selling Rooney, moving him to second fiddle).
Valencia and Young both have place in the team as fullbacks. God knows we need at least 15 fullbacks so at least 2 of them are healthy at time.

Romero is good enough to be second choice with Jhonstone as 3rd. McNair is defo not terrible and shoed he can have a place in the squad. Should defo sign a CB! The midfield could most probably do with 1 more tbh looks like Sanchez will be that guy, but am happy with that CM tbh. We defo need a speedy winger, which i suggested we sign and after that will be happy with our attacking options. The players we have can be direct just not how we are playing atm or maybe under LVG. Maybe could do with a STR but only if Wilson goes on loan, would be more than happy to see him given a chance though. Would maybe keep Young in the squad but not Tony V if we can get a decent offer for him.

He's good enough, no doubt about that. Thing is, would rather give that spot to some academy player.
McNair is terrible defender. No ifs or buts.
One winger could be enough, there's plenty of back up options.

I hope we learn in the summer that we can't go into a season with a thin squad, regardless of how LVG thinks.

This has proven that any fantasy idea about the board wanting to keep on to LVG because we're trying to hold out for Pep Guardiola was just a myth.

Guardiola proved it again that is he just a glorified manager. He always had the best teams in the league, and abandons ship when it might seem that he is losing it. Next stop: PSG.

That team was made by Frank Rijkaard, not Guardiola. He just took over, and added some things of his own, which I do not contest, brought something extra to the team, but he did not make that team what it was.

EDIT: If I remember well, when he left he got kicked out of the UCL by Chelsea in the semis, and lost the title to Real. I will check, but I believe I am right about it.
