The Manchester United Thread

I don't understand. You want us to go after young players but also want us to challenge for the title? You can't have both. We need 2 or 3 proven players to make us title challengers again.

I would love that. City just have an injury crisis like we have, with Kompany being out for a long time, they start to fail. Man Utd then start to pick up form with our injuries coming back, Martial and Rooney continuing to score goals and Depay deciding its time to show up.

Would be great.
Which of the proven names van gaal signed have done well?Depay isn't showing up, Basti's just faded away...Was Martial proven??I am not asking them to sign complete unknown quantities but just to trust the scouting system which they did with Martial

Mammana is FM wonderkid. Not that good currently. Need first team quality. Only Laporte fits there. Stones is overrated.
Mario Fernandes is another who's not good enough. Good going forward, liability defensively. Well, not really liability, but he gets out of position often.

Theo Bongonda? He has worse stats than Memphis this season. No thanks.

Renato Sanches fits well on the paper, but he's still 18. I would love him, but wouldn't expect Martial effect from him any time soon.

Blind has done very well at CB. Still if someone like Laporte is available, then go for him and use blind as backup. He's versatile enough and United squad is injury prone enough for him to have 30-35 games.

James Wilson has done nothing to earn right to be in the first team. He needs to go on loan first.

Young has done well as cover fullback. He's fine there.

You need mix of both.
I am just throwing up names, except Renato, all are examples of what we could use.The problem for us has been that we have lacked pace in our team, slowing down our play.Quick wingers can help with that, I'd even go on to say that we need a reckless wing back like Mario; again just an example. As for Wilson, look at the 2 top scorers around, Aubameyang and Vardy, both quick players, just like Wilson- I am not asking you to play him vs teams like Arsenal, but maybe in cups and teams like Sunderland, it seems like our team loses motivation against teams like them, this would be a nice way to keep the top dogs on their toes at the same time having someone willing to go 100% against Sunderland too.

You were banging on about how we should get him last summer!

I've never once said I wanted Kane, literally never, you're mistaken there. I have always not wanted Kane but I know United will get him because he's England's next best striker basically. So it looks at the moment. Which doesn't say much.

Stop bashing fellaini...he's actually been good recently.

Your standards are slipping mate, not that I can blame you with how this club is being run football wise and how we play on the pitch.

Fellaini will never be part of a midfield for us that will be a winning team, there I've said it. But he appears to be a great LVG player. For some reason I'm still trying to figure out.

Not Kane, Stones!

I'd actually take Kane. Proving he's not a one season wonder.

If I'd have my way I'd have Kane and Vardy up front. Be interesting to see what happens

Oh, last summer I would of tbf, but now in hindsight I'd pass on him. He has all the tools to be a great defender but something about him really having watched him more this season puts me off him, I'm not sure if it's an attitude problem or whether **** has just got to his head. I'll go for the latter. He has made too many mistakes this season and thinks he's Pele on the ball at times.

But I think we'll go for them anyway, the wrong moves IMO given the money there is so much better value out there. But United being United love their big money English signings and having the next best English player.

Wouldn't go for Vardy. At least not yet. His recent performances surely worked up his market value to the sky and he still needs to prove that he's not a one season wonder.

I'd be really happy with Kane up front tho plus I'd sign a sick AMR and a regiment of centre backs.

Btw our South stand is being renamed in honour of Sir Bobby Charlton. Bit odd of a time to do it but he is the legend of this club. I really want him to remain top goalscorer because IMO his contribution has been far superior to that of Rooney, even if he eclipses it.

It's this summer or never for a big move for Vardy as he's like 29, but given he has signed a new contract with Leicester I'd say he'll stay there. Leicester will probably be a force to be reckoned with now given their billionaire owners I can see them really pushing the boat out this summer and building a great team.

I wouldn't have Vardy at United anyway, probably give us a few good seasons but we need to look more towards the longer term. Especially if we're keeping Rooney doesn't make sense to get in another strike of Vardy's age, get someone younger.

I still don't know how we overlooked Dele Alli, this guy is the real star of their team and will become something special.

One season wonder?

Last season 21 goals in PL. Right now it is 26 games and 16 goals. Start of the season was slow, because he didint get any rest in summer and has no back up in Spurs.

But sorry i dont want it to happen and cant see it happening either that Kane goes to United. It must be ridiculous amount of money for him, for Spurs to consider selling to PL team. They have an amazing young core and payers who are getting better as the season passes. Also Kane seems to be loyal player and he loves playing the club that made him. If they manage to get Berahino in summer, they will be seriously good team that have several England national players and become dominating team for years coming.

No, I'm saying he is proving that he isn't one. I'm agreeing with you

I agree with you but for him to remain top goalscorer...you need to hope that rooney wouldn't score 5 goals in the next 2 seasons?...yeah, bobby's record will get broken...only a matter of time.

Modern records mean so little in reality often.

It's like when Andy Cole was it broke Law's United European goals record ..... Playing twice as much and more games than Law ever played down to the groups in the Champions League now. (BTW, keep it quite but Law, although I naturally never saw him play, is one of my all time favourite non-Liverpool players. Not only a **** of a goalscorer, but an incredibly nice guy. Fortunate to of shared a train ride back up from Euston to Piccadilly a good few years back and he was so friendly and gracious when I took a seat at his table haha it was untrue. Absolutely riveting listening to him for those 3 hours or so as was back then the train. Some absolutely fantastic tails about Shanks and Busby. Wouldn't be drawn on the back heal for City that sent United down like as much as I tried lol. Top respect for that man.).

I can't take all the Barca hype seriously anymore. All the journos are acting as if MSN represent some superhuman talent that descended upon the earth from outer space. They're certainly good, and Messi is obviously godlike, but it's like nobody notices that modern game has changed drastically in favor of offensive players.

Faster balls. Rule changes that protect attackers. Huge decline in defensive ability and organization. All those things contribute to that massive goal tally. Put these three in the serie A in the 90s, and let's if they would still bang a 100 goals a year. Neymar in particular wouldn't last a month there.
