The Manchester United Thread

I can't take all the Barca hype seriously anymore. All the journos are acting as if MSN represent some superhuman talent that descended upon the earth from outer space. They're certainly good, and Messi is obviously godlike, but it's like nobody notices that modern game has changed drastically in favor of offensive players.

Faster balls. Rule changes that protect attackers. Huge decline in defensive ability and organization. All those things contribute to that massive goal tally. Put these three in the serie A in the 90s, and let's if they would still bang a 100 goals a year. Neymar in particular wouldn't last a month there.

Which is why i always say messi<maradona

Nicky **** appointed Head of Academy - Official Manchester United Website

While I don't think it's particularly negative, it is certainly peculiar to leave the job open for 12 months, "evaluate" the current state of the academy and then give it a man, who has been there the whole time and who apparently turned it down 9 months ago...

Seen the rumors that Simeone is ready to become Chelsea's new manager from next season.

Pep vs Mourinho vs Simeone managing City, United and Chelsea. If this all happens, my God, what a sick next season we have ahead us. And yeah, don't forget Wenger and Klopp. :P

You are reading it wrong IMO. Nicky **** was involved with youth coaching not head of academy. Since McClair left, **** assumed the role and was in that role for 10 month. Looks like hierarchy were happy with the work he has done.

Also this put the bs Woodward Vs SAF, Class of 92 to bed once for all.

De Regt highly rated on continent. He will work with Derek Langley as part of @ManUtd academy modernisation.

The Dutchman spent a total of 18 years with Ajax and after work with the Serbian FA as well, will now start his fresh journey with Manchester United.

De Regt has a history of working with some of the Netherlands’ finest talents, including Gregory van der Wiel, Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong, Johnny Heitinga and Jan Vertonghen.

Gonna be more news in the coming days apparently about the youth restructure etc. Also heard today we have signed 5 new academy players from Switzerland and Holland. Things moving fast he sounds of things.

YES! More Dutch influence. Let Van Gaal completely take over everything!

This get's our seal of approval. ;).

The Dutch must be doing something right in scouting department, if they consistently produce more talent than most countries 4x times their size.

Is that scouting or development?

Imo, recently the scouting has been terrible in the Eredivisie.

Both. The scouting in general has been poor, and not just us, but the entire classic top 4 over last 4-5 years

Manchester United fans plan £71 Midtjylland ticket protest - BBC Sport

FC Midtjylland trying to make fast money, but this is just disrespectful and silly.

Scandalous disgrace. This **** LONG needs to stop. We had similar with Sion. They charged Bordeaux and Kazan less than half of the 50 odd quid they charged us the last group game. And for a completely dead game at that. You used to have put a fixed set of prices into UEFA the start the season but that's all gone out of the window now. Madrid are another set of twats. That was £70 plus last year. But then when the likes of Arsenal rape opposition European fans blind they feel justified.

And to top it off, Midtjylland is in the **** end of Denmark and an absolute ***** to get to. Really feel for anyone that's travelled out there.

Oh, watched most of the Benfica game last night for this Renato Sanchez kid we're both heavily interested in.

They had him playing as one of the two holding mids who was the one with the license to support in more of a box to box role at times. Big and strong for his age. Kept everything nice and simple. Intelligent in his positional play. Decent but nothing like the exorbitant fee being banded around. But that was just one game.

Yeah, plus as the guy is a perfect Lukaku look-alike, MANUMAD mate would be over the moon. :D

Well if nothing else this game tomorrow is going to expose how brutally **** we are if we can't beat a team convincingly who last played on December 10th.

For all the moaning about our academy, we are top of the U21 league with game in hand.

Also average age of the squad that played last game was just 18.6 years. That's as good as being eligible for U18 but playing against U21.

Our defence was Fosu Mensah, Williams, Poole, Riley. 3 out of 4 defenders are eligible for U18 team.

Only positive thing about this season is our youngsters getting so many chances. Media can go about the shiny new toys and grounds for youth players but if they don't get chances for first team then it's all just waste of money and time.
