You dont have to be a genius to know Payet of all people isnt going to take a low freekick from that distance. And even if it is low, DDG should be saving it from from that distance anyway so it was stupid not to jump.
Even if smalling jumped, I doubt he would've gotten to the ball...watch the goal again from payet's POV

I'd love to see Paul Scholes stand directly under where the ball goes in, and try to jump and stop it, the little gnome

Eh. As the old saying goes, there are no great goalkeepers, there are only bad shots.

You can see DDG watching the ball fly, uncertain whether it bends or not. It takes a wicked bend mid-air and than it's too late to react. Nobody can make that save, not even Buffon in his absolute peak.

"DDG should be saving it from that distance"

Why does the distance matter? It was a brilliant freekick. Curling away from DDG, into the post and into the goal.

I'd love to see you try save that..

It was brilliant free kick and if there was any GK in the world who had any chance of saving, it was De Gea and he couldn't.

But your last line, if we use that logic then we can never ever criticise any player or any professional player in any sport.

Actually after watching that back from the wider angle behind the net, it went nowhere near Smalling so him jumping or not made no difference. I'd still question whether or not De Gea needed to be that much to his left though. If Payet goes for that side of the goal, hes in a position where it would practically come straight at him. So surely he could have taken another one or two steps to his right and still would have saved it comfortably to his left.

When Payet strikes the ball, you clearly see DDG take two small jumps to his right, and then attamps the full dive. With a better starting position, he would have saved it. That is on DDG. Fantastic free kick, and its hard to criticise DDG after how good he's been and the saves he's made, but I still think he could have done better there.

That fk did hit the post before going in.

Whats that got to do with anything? If DDG has a better starting position he saves it. Hitting the post is irrelevant because he would have saved the ball before it reached the post.

If only our board was invested in the football and cared as much as Bayern's about the football being exciting and what the fans are going through watching this misery, we wouldn't be in this situation.

You know that's not right isn't it? Spent 250 Million in 2 years and you say if only board invested in football.

Don't waste your breath mate. Not sure how fans can accuse the glazers of not caring about the footballing side of the club despite shelling out over 300 million pounds in the space of 3 years.

He quite clearly meant the style of the football, not how much money has been spent on players.

Not really. At least it's not clear. He said about investing in players and caring about exciting football.

LVG was making Bayern play **** boring football. The board dont want that and neither do the fans, so the board acted and got rid. We dont want ***** boring football either. Not only are we getting ***** boring football, were not even getting results either. So why dont the board act like Bayerns did? Thats the point he's getting at. Seriosly. Do you guy's just see what you want to see in posts and try to twist it to snipe at the other person. Its almost on a daily basis now between Sunilvk7 and zzeezzy. Its quite clear what zzeezzy was saying. But dont let that get in the way of starting an argument though eh!

I said invested in the football, meaning the way we are playing obviously, nothing to do with spending.

But anyway my points was about the football we are playing, our identity should be very important to the board and they should act when it is being destroyed by the manager. Just like Bayern did before. You'd never hear anyone on the Glazer or Woodward board come out and say stuff like that. Even when he eventually does get sacked.

How was it not clear? Did you read the entire post and more accurately the entire line that you quoted apart from the start that you highlighted and twisted?

Here's his quote again for you:

If only our board was invested in the football and cared as much as Bayern's about the football being exciting and what the fans are going through watching this misery, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Ive highlighted the part that you didnt. It doesnt say anything about not investing in players or not spending money. It says about the board caring about the style of football and the ***** we are watching on a weekly basis.

Bayerns board wasnt happy with the style of football so they got rid of the cause of that. He's asking why our board arent doing the same. Simple as that.

WTF? Last time I had argument with zzezzy was maybe in August or sometime back. So calm down. If anything I agree with most of the things he says and I reply to the part where I disagree. That's why we have discussion boards.

If he meant 'board interested in football' rather than invest then it would make sense but any talk about lack of investment means they are just wrong.

It was not clear because you stressed about boring part and I stressed on investing part. When you talk about investing, what do you think of? Investing in players?

First part says about investing and second part says about playing style. I obviously disagreed with first part so I highlighted it.

Also I didn't even attack his post, I made my points. Not sure why you are getting so worked up.

Obviously a translation issue then. To me and im guessing most people on this forum, they will know exactly what he meant. If you read the entire post, which is quotes from the Bayern president, its only talking about the style of football, and the problems LVG was causing within the club. Its impossible to not understand what he means. Unless you highlight 9 words from a sentence, invent a theory in your head, then react to that.

This is partly right and partly wrong. Van Gaal changed the playing style of Bayern for better. IIRC he changed Bayern from playing 4-4-2 to playing 4-2-3-1.

His time at ManUtd is a big failure but at Bayern he started off very well and changed many things for better at Bayern.
