Matudi for 25m pounds? Where do I sign? Huge upgrade over any runner we have now in the team.
For that price, sign him up! But i would've preferred a more creative option like kroos.

Are you guys happy with our cb options right now? I mean, Bailly is a great prospect and all, but he's still very inexperienced. Bailly doens't have 50 leagues appearances yet, and just changed leagues.Smalling had a solid season, but every time we played an open offensive football he was shaky and prone to errors. We were keeping possession just to get the ball away from the defenders at one point. The backups are medium at best.

I am more than happy atm Smalling apart from a couple occasions was one of the best CBs in the league and came on no end last season. Bailly yes he is in a new league but he is not really inexperienced as he has nearly 50 apps in Spain and was a key member in his team winning the AFCON. And was very impressed when i watched him last season. Rojo showed he can be a good back up player and a better CB than LB. Jones can be anything if he stays fit I know big if! Then the likes of Tuanzebe, Warren, Williams all coming through now Mc Nair if he's not sold and maybe TFM if Mourinho sees him as one.

What other defenders with "experience" are available right now? None. That's why LVG struggled to get a CB last season.

MUTV on the serious Pogba push atm. Talking about the 3rd being signed and how the forth could most likely playing in France atm. Telling the Italian league to watch out because we have already signed the best from France and Germany and also signed a player from Spain. Pogba this Pogba that giggling and smiling at each other like there little girls with a secret. Bringing him up at every chance even when not even asked about him.

Was that Crerand again? Hes gonna end up getting sacked lol

So you don't think Smalling is a good defender. Each to there own.

I think he get's WAY over hyped in this thread.

On his day he's a good defender. But those days are wholly inconsistent. Where you'd be without De Gea behind him I don't know. His pace get's him out of a lot of problems he creates for himself. Along with being bailed out by Darmian early and the Dutch kid later. And he refuses to learn about grabbing players the area on set pieces. He's gonna' be rivalling Skrtel soon for the amount he get's away with.

But like Stones at Everton, he get's massively over hyped because there's little else and England are desperate for something coming through.

But at least you've Mourinho now. If he can't sort his flaws out and up his consistency it's time to move on.

I don't think Van Gaal has ever tried to sign another centre back for us. I could be wrong tho.
Off the top of my head, i would say Manolas or Koulibaly. Even Marquinhos has a lot of experience and it's unhappy at the moment in PSG.
With our financial muscle, no top cb should be out of the question. We are trying to sign Pogba, for god's sake.

I agree he does get a bit over hyped on here sometimes. But I think he's a good defender that people tend to over focus on very few lapses in concentration at times. I remember many a pundit say he's not only up there in the league but in Europe also. I can't remember without looking but I'm sure his stats on whoscored and sqwauka were right up there with most of Europes best last season. Will only get better under Mourinho. But still expect the odd lapse/ clanger also.

Hummels? You were consistently heavily linked to him. Hard to think there wasn't serious interest.

And of course there was the Sergio Ramos debacle all last summer.

It's not as easy as just throwing money at a club or player. Look at what Juve have rejected from City for Bonucci and if it was down to cash we would have beat Madrid to the Varane signing. There are many things that contribute to a transfer not just money.

Well, Smalling may be a good defender, even though not a world class one. I just feel we're gamble on his partner. It's understandable if Bailly needs time to adapt and, in my opinion, we have no reliable backups.

I do understand it isn't always about the money, but i don't think Manolas or Koulibaly are out of our reach. And that's not really an excuse, cause this problems you mention should not stop a club like Manchester United to sign top players. That's how the market is nowdays, there's no running away from it.

Rojo has shown he can be reliable at CB showed good form till his shoulder injury and coming off a good COPA tournament. And Jones is fit and ready to go I've read. TFM is more than ready to fill in Blind was better than we all thought he could be last season. And Joyce has told Mourinho that the likes of Tuanzebe etc are ready to start pushing for first team football. The thing that I will be watching this season is injuries because Mourinho and his fitness man Faria record is nothing short of amazing!

Manolas wants to stay in Roma and sign a new contract. And if Mourinho wanted Koulibaly he would have been in for him. The fact that Bailly was one of 4 Mourinho key signings should say how good he thinks he is and must be very confident in him being ready to make the step.

You're right, i completely forgot about these two. It's strange that we would offer that much money for Ramos and simply give up trying to sign a top cb after that went to ****.

Smalling was very good last season. With a few errors in there too. Mad to argue otherwise really. Defending for the most part is a team game and we didn't do enough of that last season. Key it's creating a defensive unit. We were not physical enough at times. Bailly is raw and aggressive with a high ceiling.
