The Manchester United Thread

One thing is for sure before the next international break we need 6 points in our two league fixtures against Burnley and Swansea to stand any chance of doing anything meaningful this season.

We have City midweek for the EFL cup but honestly I don't give a **** about that, does anyone? It's against City so bit more to it but it really doesn't matter.

Could well be your best chance of silverware and a return to the Europa League in February.

Don't knock it.

Valencia does okay as a makeshit fullback, but he always, always gets murdered in the big games.

Not 'always, always.'

He played very well Monday night and saved them with a top drawer tackle when Firmino was poised to win it.

As funny as you are Scouse I place much more value on the FA Cup. But honestly when I say I don't give a **** about the EFL Cip it's not because I think we're winning anything better this season, it's just because I don't like it.

The only thing I hope we use it for is to get some momentum back and try out some new things.

One thing's for sure...we may need to take the europa league much more seriously as it is, potentially, our best route to getting UCL football next season.

I wasn't trying to be funny.

The League Cup is a major competition. Like the Europa League I don't understand why you down play it so much. You start the season in England and there's only three trophy's you can win. It guarantees you European football in the Spring. It gives you a day out at Wembley for a major final- What being a fan is all about.

It's only been the complete disrespect and arrogance of managers like Wenger and Ferguson the past 20 years that have served to devalue it which is really sad as it's a great competition. And as regards Mourinho, like at Chelsea, it'd get the monkey off his back of winning that first trophy at Utd.

Well that just means Klopp didn't do his homework to exploit Valencia's side properly. And don't get me wrong here, I like Valencia a lot. He's tough, he's hard working, and it's impressive that he was able to transition into a new position in his late late 20s.

But ultimately the guy is not a defender, and when faced with really good players he is lost.

He didn't really get murdered tho. Smalling, blind and bailly to a certain degree did.

Oh, no argument from me. I've questioned often why they play him.

But he did play well Monday to be fair.

We've been through this endlessly Scouse and I'll say why once again. It's because it affects us in the league having to play Thursday and then on Sunday. That is effectively 3 games in 6 days now and 2 would of been testing enough without that Europa League fixture.

Furthermore let me add this, we have got 1 point from the 3 games we have played so far following after a Europa League tie so far this season.

Why do people consider LVG a disaster? They were Def some good positives to take from his tenure...not a complete disaster at all but we just felt he'd taken us as far as he could

I don't think so but most United fans did which is why they were so happy when Mourinho was appointed.

Can't wait for Mou to have his squad and not a mish mash from Fergie, Lvg and Moyes.

If he doesn't have the squad he wants, he only has himself to blame because he pretty much had an unlimited transfer budget this summer. This is not Chelsea where he had to sell one player everytime he bought one.

I wasn't thrilled but I was quite satisfied with mourinho but he was my 3rd choice. Ideally, I wanted klopp from the minute Fergie retired because he encompassed all what united stood for. Pochetino was a viable option but he's a slow starter and I feared he wouldn't have been given enough time at united plus he's building a wonderful project with spurs.

Hope we get Fabinho in the summer.

And thats utter bollocks too only pedalled by excuse makers in England.

Doesn't effect other Country's that compete in Europe. Hasn't effected Sevilla the last three years. Didn't stop Dortmund last year putting out a full strength team in the Europa whilst battling Munich on two fronts all season long domestically.

Just what pray tell is the difference in Wednesday- Saturday Champions League from Thursday- Sunday Europa League? Same recovery period of two days between games. It's complete and utter nonsense spouted by English teams that continue to disrespect another great, major competition.

And you've just spent over £150 million this past summer alone. Besides the money already ploughed into the squad. And now you're telling us you can't cope with the fixtures?

****, you'd of been apoplettic if you had a game on average every four days like Klopp had to deal with last year (the heaviest schedule of any side in Europe), with no signings and a horrific injury list. We went through a spell the Autumn through Winter using a group of around 14 players weekend/ mid-week/ weekend/ mid-week.

Cry me a ******* river that you can't cope three months into a season.

You deal. That's football. That's what sides who want to be successful do.

And he will work out for you guys eventually. Give it time. Although I doubt he will enjoy the level of success he did at Chelsea in his first spell simply because the league is so competitive now.

I doubt any club will dominate to the extent L'pool did the '70's/ '80's and Utd the '90's/ '00's going forward down to how competitive it is now with the wealth at the top end. The days of club dynasty's are likely over.

I agree, its just too competitive now for a club to dominate years on end in the EPL.

No need to keep moaning. Chin up lads, if we could overcome getting mauled 6-1 at home, we can overcome this.

This from someone who when faced with any stat about Liverpool went on about how they don't count because at the end of last season they were in the Europa League and so they had to use two different teams because they had so many games
