LVG's squad was good enough to be the best team in "big club matches" for 2 years. Mourinho comes in, spends additional 150m, and suddenly the squad is not good enough to get more than 1 point total vs. Chelsea+Liverpool+City?

I don't know what more UEFA can do to make it more attractive.
They're closing the financial gap on the Champions League money which had to happen. They've given the winners a guaranteed group place in the following years CL. You don't even have to pre-qualify. Yet still it's looked at with disdain in England by most clubs and fans.
Sky and their ilk have a LOT to answer for in the way they've reconditioned todays fans mindsets.

POINT! You only have to look at the past week .....
If Utd had put half as much effort into the game yesterday as you did your Cup Final Monday there wouldn't be all this debate today!
.Yeh but our biggest sponsorships such as adidas deal hinge on being in CL so there will still be a big effect if we're not in it by the end of this season.
I'm not saying chopping managers is the right way to do things, but from what I'm seeing he is making it hard for me to have faith in the choices he is making.
As you say we have a good SQUAD so why isn't he utilising these players who are not getting minutes in the Europa instead of first team players who are playing in league 2 games in 6 days is bad enough let alone 3.
Fellaini does what he does well, but honestly if we're building our midfield round him it will always be to negate the opposition than it will to impose our football on them.
We're United and we should be imposing our football on other teams with a style to do that. As soon as we went down early to Chelsea it was only ever going one way, that's what happens when we try to play this way. I'm not saying we play gung ho football but at least set up a team who can at least play with a style/identity. I mean you know my thoughts on Fellaini and Lingard. But Zlatan yesterday was utterly useless again. That's 3 league games we could of won if he took his chances, yes you don't judge a player just on that but he is hardly offering much else so I have to.
Like I say I still give Mourinho time and faith to turn this round, but it's hard to see at the moment. Two huge league games coming up and I hope he makes the necessary changes. My team going forward you know what would be as I posted few pages back. Lets start playing our better attacking players and actually scoring some goals would be nice.

Make the CL a smaller competition so bigger teams are playing in the Europa league.

Oh mate. Man after my own heart. If I could have the perfect scenario all European competitions would revert back to being straight knock-out from the get go and the Champions League would be what it should be. Champions only! Can't beat straight two legged knock-out European footie.
But that's never returning as it only came around to stave off the threat of a breakaway European Super League and is designed to get as many big clubs as possible a guaranteed 6 games mega riches.
It is what it is now sadly.

Smaller? They're on about making it ****** bigger last time I read. It will only get worse from here, as they are driven by money not making the competition better sadly.

LVG has had his fair spankings in big games i.e 3-0 @ the emirates, 3-0 @ whitehart lane, 3-0 @ goodison park
I loved watching their reasoning evolve over the years.

Everton are a small "top team" per say
Left this for a day, so the usual suspects could trade their pointless barbs at each other.
This was nothing other than good old fashioned pasting. Of the 3 games against the big sides, this was the most unaaaceptable.
Comparing to last year is pointless, as all the sides were awful. But this side certainly has the players to win the title. Up to Jose to get the best from it, simple as that. Still got to take on most of these at home, so title is nowhere near out, but improvements need to be made fast. Increasingly clear that Mata must play all the time. In fairness Jose has played him a lot, and clearly thinks he is important, but the core must be build around using him, Herrera, Pogba and Carrick. We play our best when 3 of those play.
This game a good example of why using possession to sneer about performances is utterly pointless.

Not sure if building a team around 34 year old michael carrick is a good idea
Carrick is brilliant as a DM, the next option is moving Blind from CB and playing him at DM
You can't win them all obviously, but overall they were leading "top 6 table" for straight 2 years.
Do you think you can get away with that midfield + Mata on the wing? Would be interested to see Schneiderlin there in there instead of Herrera. He's playing well, but might be needed for the good of the team.
But blew the "lesser games"
Titles are pretty much won on smashing everyone outside the big teams.
Provding you had Shaw, on the left one of Martial/Miki/Rashford, and Valencia playing, you could, they would provide the blistering pace and endless running for Mata's guile and intelligence. Schneiderelin is certainly being underused though, imo
