The Manchester United Thread

The difference is LVG had two seasons and managed only one major trophy, Jose hasn't even finished his first season in charge and is still fighting on 3 fronts with one in the bag.

What three fronts are that, exactly? Europa League front, FA Cup front and Wenger trophy front?

The league isn't over just yet or have you forgotten Newcastle under Keegan. Personally I think Chelsea are too consistent this season (especially without the distraction of any kind of European competition) to not win the league however 2-4 is do-able. The Europa League is the key competition in my view win that and it doesn't matter where you end up in the league placings (something Spurs seen to have forgotten).

Special mention to DDG kept us in it at crucial times today with a couple of key saves. And a shout out to Tony V who had to deal with Bertrand and Redmond with no help whatsoever. Oh year and all that money spent on Wembley the trophy area is fecking terrible tbh.

Yes, i almost forgot valencia...our unsung hero for today and for our entire season.

He was our best player beside the Swedish sensation upfront.

He held his own and the saints got very little joy down his side. Bar the cross from redmond that led to the offside goal and the betrand cross late on, i don't remember a time when southampton threatened from the right.

They focused on rojo for pretty much the majority of the game.

Yep agree also Pogba stepped up big time in the second half fighting for everything and putting in a shift defensively, while getting forward in attack.

Last time I checked the competition in the Premier League isn't for the 2-4 place, it's for the trophy and you've been out of that by November. That leaves you in two competitions.

So Liverpool, Arsenal etc are in no competitions?

Best someone remind Mr Wenger then ;)

It's funny how the Wenger Trophy suddenly became an important achievement now that it's United fighting for it year on year and not just Arsenal.

Oh I'm not saying it's a trophy, but to get CL football for this rebuilding team, is in my eyes, almost a must. So if we don't win the Europa League, then we need to fight to get into that top 4. But there's no excuses for a club as stable as Arsenal, with the resources they have, to keep settling for 4th practically year in, year out. Someone hit the nail on the head after the Chelsea loss, they're a big club that doesn't behave like they're a big club. They finished second last season, a bit of 'progress', and what do Arsenal fans see that summer? Wenger's recruitment featuring a centre half from Bolton, some Japanese kid that nobody has heard of since (where is he? still with his former club until next season?), and admittedly couple of decent signings in Xhaka and Mustafi, but nothing that screamed out "I want to win the league this year".

Southampton were tactically better in truth. You can see those 2 weeks they had paid off on the pitch but not in the result.

What won the game for us was basically individuals. If Puel had a better team at his disposal, we would've very well lost that.

You got carried through by sheer force of will from a couple of players. Not ideal, but something you've been missing for a while now and something teams like Arsenal and Spurs are still sorely lacking. You might not be back, but it's a step in the right direction.

Cruel from but very funnily apt:

I'm glad Rooney picked that up. I couldn't have handled watching Chris Smalling trying to lift something with 3 handles on it.

Great to get a weeks rest now till Bournmouth at home in the league. Another big game with Arsenal and Pool playing each other. Hopefully get the three points with them bring in poor form. What a turn around since Chelsea thumping. Think our win % in all comps since is 70%.

Amuses the living **** out of me how that bothers you so much (and it obviously does as you're the only one to have a rant on it being mentioned) when it's quite the source of mirth with most Utd fans it's been that long now.

I can't speak on behalf of our fan base, I can only speak for me, and even though I can see the bit of humour in it (even though when it's logically explained, it's not that funny), it's become overused and quite boring. Troll football esque.

But hey, I've slagged a gooner or two about the '4th' jibe in the past, so I haven't really got a leg to stand on.

Hey, on the bright side, beat a Bournemouth team in serious free fall next Sat'day morning and you'll more than likely come out the weekend above Arsenal in 5th!

PARTY TIME! :P.
