The Manchester United Thread

Pep's City are a threat and it's too soon to say Mourinho has had a good first season with us, that will be decided in the coming weeks. All I do know is that we have it in our own hands and two options rather than one to get CL football, which is great.

On the Pep vs Mourinho debate, I find it pointless, one persons opinion will be different to another.

Only thing I shall say is that for me, Mourinho winning CL with Porto and especially Inter is far more impressive than what Pep has done. Which is no disservice to Pep, as he has done incredible stuff with Barca but it's not on the level of winning a CL with Porto or Inter. Neither clubs have come close to winning the CL without Mourinho.

I never said Mourinho has never spent money! But least he can get the best out of decent players. Pep on the other hand this season has not far from it tbh.

You inferred, not for the first time, that only one of them needs top class players to be successful.

Which is ridiculous considering the other person you're talking about has made sure he only works in the best scenarios in a league where he can outspend anyone else on top players. And repeatedly does.

Not Peps fault I suppose he inherited two of the best squads over the last years. Like Zzeezzy said about Mourinho achievement at Inter especially in the CL final. I don't think Inter win that with Pep in charge. But like many have also said they have different management styles. In no way am I saying Peps a poor manager or Mourinho has been flawless this season. It's just always been my opinion that he would struggle in the prem that's all.

Who's faults that though!? He signed those defenders and GK. He spent 180m and have gone backwards imo. Plus City new Pep was coming for ages, looks like bad planning or poor management/decision making to me.

This is the main factor in the seasons trophyless, if it matters which it really didn't. Txiki is ******* awful recently.

The other was the GK which is purely Peps, its a lynchpin postition to change for HIS team/style which he doesn't have yet. Bravo is gash. He found out his fbs are ****, and needed replacing 2/3 yrs ago at least.

Mou has a much solid foundation to build from, groundwork/gutting of the squad post-Moyes was laid by LVG.

I love the "barca was easy" though argument on Pep. They went from losing it by 17 points, to winning it by 9 (& treble I think?) the season he took over... lol. Mou was ******* genius at Porto though :D

I'd like a team with the back coached by Mou, the front by Pep please??? :D

Spoilers please. Every time i see someone puke, i have to puke as well :@

Do you think Pep had any say in transfers or was Txiki? Don't think LVG did anything but ruin the squad tbh. Especially players sold imo.

I think they made the same mistake you lot did when Moyes was coming in, instead of getting targets on the hush, they stalled until the manager could see guys day to day, and essentially missed a window or two that was needed and are now playing catch up.

I'm not comparing scenarios. You were the one saying only one can succeed if he's got top players. When they both do. Outside of Porto Mourinho's never not.

Inter were the only club of any relevance in Italy as they were the only club in Italy with any frigging money at the time. And he made some pretty major investment into that side. Let's not pretend they were a lesser side in Europe that year.

There's lot's of ways to critique both but that's not one of them when both have always worked in clubs that dominate financially over the opposition with the best players.

Given city chased Pep for three years I refuse to believe that he didn't speak to txixi about potential targets well before then. If they didn't, then that is phenomenonally stupid.

Looking at our windows, i'm going with stupid. I can only see Pep ever looking at the 3 bolded surely.. nearly 75mil on Mangala/Otamendi alone... ffs.

De Bryne / Sterling / Otamendi - 15/16
Bony / Mangala / Fernando / Caberello - 14/15
Dinho / Jovetic / Negrado / Navas - 13/14

Fernandinho has been fantastic imo. Especially considering the different jobs he's been asked to do this season. Sterlings been good, even though a little inconsistent at times. What's your thoughts on KDB? Been ok for me. But a fantastic player in the making.

KDB will be a star player as early season showed, but at the min. He's caught having to play in Gundogan's pivot role due to injury and Silva being in great twilight form at the #10. I fully expect the team to be built around him in the #10 role from next season for the most part.

The pace/intelligence of Sane runs alone is worth having passers on the ball with the vision of KDB/Silva. big fan of the lad.

Yeah KDB at 10 will be better for sure. And Sane has really improved game by game. Kudos to Pep! Think the team has looked unbalanced at times, with certain players in wrong positions. And not understanding or having the ability to play said role.

New fbs will greatly help, so will a settled starting XI/base.

Heavy rumours, walker was dropped yesterday due to agreeing the move to us, so fingers crossed, now a LB please.

Sane will be a ******* star. Love that kid (great nickname too... BACON).

Walker would be a good signing. Any news on fee? Think having a more settled attack will help us next season. Defensively were good.

Nah, i think its all paper talk bollox. buts as its us. I will safely state in the 45mil bracket :lol.

prob 20-25 ish? maybe. Depending if he makes a **** of himself to get it done? but we're linked with every full back in the world at the min, as ours are out of contract end of the season (6 players i think with no deals on the table). Only Kolorov has a deal Zaba/Clicy/Sanga dont this summer
