The Manchester United Thread

You've measured defensive activity. Any player will see those numbers inflate in the same role. He's decent tactically but it's ridiculous to suggest that he's a top destroyer. Kanté's role in the Chelsea's catennacio is much more demanding. Him and Matic do the job of 3 men. Kanté plays as a B2B, defending much more space than Hererra. It's just Mourinho getting the best out of a player.

The first issue is that none of these stats are posession adjusted for starters. You then consider that different positions/roles in different systems see a different level of defensive activity. Coquelin is better than Kanté and Hererra in virtually all of those stats. Context is needed.

When I see posts like this I remember why I don't argue about Football anymore.

Still trying to work out where I said Herrera was a 'top destroyer' haha

Also I didn't realise assisting and key passes were purely defensive activity...

All I was saying was Herrera isn't an overrated player (said why I thought this) and damola start talking about *catenaccio and Coquelin

Scouse nailed it on Herrera, he's the player United need. But Herrera would probably play much better if Mourinho incorporated Juego Rodrigo De Possebon

Missing the game tonight. Absolutely gutted. Will record it, but no doubt will have the result spoiled at some stage. Not the same watching a game knowing the result.
Told the girlfriend months ages ago not to plan anything :)

Herrerra is top class and is showing it now, he fits the system and is showing now why United shelled out the money for him at the time. Scouse nailed it in his description too, also bit like Costa hate playing against but if he is in your team you absolutely love him

This made me chuckle

Nop, and wouldn't be surprised if he'd start him up-front with Rashford on the left.
No chance! He only played the other day because Zlatan was injured and Rashford just played 120 mins. Mourinho himself said despite having a good match, he still has a lot to prove. Mky and Lingard with Rashford tonight.

For some reason I'm thinking City win 3-1.

But I'm usually ***** at predictions so enjoy your victory United ;)

I think all damola is trying to say is that Herrera lacks the juego de posecion to play for a top team and we should sign someone who does have the juego de posecion even if it means are defence gets less protection and we lose our leading assister

LOL XD

Gilberto Silva and Pirlo in one player.

cant say im overly confident for tonight but one thing im certain of is that we will score at least once

I'd fancy City off those two XI's.

But it's the Derby. EVERYTHING goes out of the window and it's who wants it most!

Lot of flaws in that City line up also. Will be good with the ball. But when they lose the ball and getting back defensively they can be got at and quite easily.

I think it helps that this game has not been as hyped up as the previous league derby was.Expecting an open game ending 2-1 to United with goals from Mkhitaryan and Martial

If they play at the lightening mad speed the recent game against us went I fear for Utd as I've seen nothing to suggest this Utd side can live with that this season. The only plus on that is as much as Carrick would have no legs HT, so would Toure again.

But I'm rooting for you to get a result regardless. Which just sounds so WRONG!. :O.

Remember, all it takes is one misplaced pass for them to trigger a United counter
