The Manchester United Thread

VVD borderline world class. .....

Even though I'm not naive enough to not know the way the market has now gone, I'm still very reticent to see my club splashing crazy stupid money on players. But if they ever do, then I can reason it far better for the very top echelon players that fit. And as you note, that fella', whether it's L'pool or someone else who pays £50/60 million or so, is worth the outlay. Instant game changer to any top side. Not least in England. Arguably the most dominant defender the league already who propped up Fonte two years back and made him look a heck of a lot better than what he's shown to be without him. Tall and great the air, both defending and attacking with the goals he scores, rapid pace, fearsome tackler and physical presence, composed on the ball ..... just a top. top all round defender who's a real leader both on the park and in the channgies as per everyone you hear talk on him that has played with/ managed/ coached him. Passionate and vocal along with his presence. I believe he's Southampton's 'team' captain just 2 years in which speaks volumes.

And he's still only 25 so his best years are all ahead of him.

I don't think he's borderline World class. I think he's in that conversation already and can only get more dominant.

A rapid, tall, composed, ball player defender who's a leader and dominant physical presence. He'd instantly bump any team he joined up another level. Not hard to see why all the top sides in England are, or have been, interested.

If you're going to pay top dollar, then he's as close as a guaranteed return as you're going to get on that.

Someone will get the best out there this summer when he leaves Southampton.

This was too much Dier for me recently...

Not only I don't rate him at all, when I saw this 50 mill the other day I nearly passed out.

We don't need him.

VVD isn't a world class defender, he is very good one though. He's not even the best or the most dominant defender in the league.

Hearing Ricky Sbragia top of list to be new u23s manager.

be happy with that. Was very well respected coach when Fergie was here. And has had good reviews from the SFA in regards to coaching there youth sides.

If Klopp is willing to spend so much on him, he is instantly 'world-class' and worth every penny. If Mourinho or any other manager does the same, he is ****. Get with the program Mike! :P

So what's people's thoughts on Benfica RB. Lots of talk since Jan aka Lindelöf. And today reports in Portugal saying we've had there president over to discuss s deal and talks ongoing. Would be a great signing and good LT replacement for Tony V.

Could be Gaitan or could be a Linderlöf let's see.

never seen him is he any good
Very very good. Watched him s dozen times this season and last. Definately very raw in defence like when Valencia was converted. But class going forward, rapid as well. Chips in with a few and good cross. Needs work but Mou can polish his defencive side like Tony V. Can play LB comfortably also decent left foot.

That would be your opinion.

Not one shared by many others. But it's all subjective on most any player not called Messi, Ronaldo or Suarez.

Cute. But unless I'm mistaken I don't believe anybody had seriously gone in for him the International break last October when I said pretty much the same on him in Joe's thread as 'a player you love': #8

Show me these many others who put him in the same category Bonucci or Godin, or Silva.

I deleted my post mate. He's had his presser but I'm waiting for a proper outlet to start reporting what he said. But that was posted on Reddit and Redcafe. Doesn't sound it tbh.

Can we please stop posting stuff like this. Even Perez saying it wouldn't be news either.

i thought users were allowed to post anything united related in this thread?even if pure speculation TOD is surely entitled to post as he pleases within reason?

Not saying he's not very good. But the double speak on transfers is both grating and tedious. He's not even as good as the Spurs duo, or Luiz (and I hate saying that). He's not as good as Kompany, but at least he can stay fitter, current injury aside. Outside of the other names I replied with and the above, there Ramos, Pique, Boateng, Barzagli to add. He's not in their level either

Its not even close to transfer rumour. It's a second hand source of a second hand source that doesn't even yet involve United. Unless Manchester United actually launch a bid or have actual talks, it's basically garbage

I said he was arguably the most dominant defender in the league. You said he wasn't. Many observers/ pundits/ ex-players, bracket them how you will, would disagree. Your lad Neville for one gushed over him two years back and the first half of the season just gone.

But that's why I deliberately prefaced it with 'arguably' and replied to you like I did. As it's all subjective. On most every player outside those three. The only more or less definitive agreement nobody ever argues with are the three guys mentioned.

IMO the guys a top bracket footballer who could probably be as dominant further up the field who's not yet even in his prime at 25. And when he joins one of the big boys I've little doubt he'll be being talked about among the best Worldwide.

Again, whoever gets him this summer will be one very lucky club that just elevated their whole team.

To equate to Utd, Jaap Stam. Ferdinand. Vidic. Ferguson had no fear of going all out attack with those back there as he knew they could be relied on to win one-on-one battles. van Dijk is exactly the same dominant force as he's consistently shown not only in weaker leagues, but all through his time at Southampton.

The same pundits have gushed over Bailly. And we're not elevating him into the same bracket... Because good as he is, he isn't there yet. It's the same with VVD
