The Manchester United Thread

i agree, cant understand those knocking him.yes the price is inflated but the guy is lightning quick and will be a real asset.I know it must sound like i keep knocking martial, truth is i think hes a great talent but perisic offers better end product imo

There's a strong argument to say if you'd run with him as a striker, you'd be in no desperate need to go drop what you have on Lukaku. But Utd see him as a winger where he started out in the main at Monaco, presumably down to his pace, so you hope he develops there.

Very interesting to see how the Martial situation goes this year after last and whether he's still happy to stay this time next summer.

Scored 11, made 11 in the league, Scouse.

In the league? Pretty sure it was 8 assists in Serie A.

Again, a very good season. But it could and should have been a whole lot better if you watch him and his decision making in games. As has been the case his time at Inter. (Can't speak about Wolfsburg shy of going off actual figures.).

Please someone photoshop cole into the inter pic on the left leaning in

If he was that good he would of been tapped up by a bigger club long before now, lets be honest. He's an average winger who I doubt any of us would of even mentioned if we had given a list of signings this summer.
There are lots of good players that don't move to top clubs doesn't make them poor.

Yeah I only found out 8 in League and 1 in Europa.

I stand corrected. I forgot Callejon who Rafa took to Napoli. So I meant to say 2 players got into double digits last year in Serie A in both goals and assists. But upon looking it was actually 4 with last day additions. Atalanta's Gomez and Marik Hamsik snuck in to join that elite club. (Rarely happens in Italy.).

So 4. My bad.

transmarkt has him down as 11, whoscored at 8. Meh.. ******* internet. :)

You can also say his figures would have been better if his team mates could have hit a barn door.

Its not about better, but different. He had a strong last season. And fits that defensive winger mould.

dont get me wrong i hope martial fulfills his potential but left me frustrated many times last season.Hope his off field issues are resolved and he has the confidence to really show what hes about

Martial isn't a striker. Anyone who thinks he is simply doesn't watch him. He hasn't got the intelligence yet to be a center forward. He gets away with it on the wing because he can isolate his man and when the full back is free, use an overlap. He's lacking in his decision making to attack the space off the ball. Which is fundamental to being a centre forward.

yes but he can play there if needed.behind rom and rash for sure but id rather have tony up top than say fellaini in an emergency

You'd stick him up there for raw pace and feet in an emergency. But he shouldn't be considered anything near one of the regular centre forwards until he improves that attacking space, which he needs to master playing off the wing.

That just ironically reiterates my point. If he'd been played consistently there from the get-go, he'd more than likely be far more rounded up front now. And he never will be until he is played there to understand the position. He looked pretty darn good the end of the season when he was the spearhead. I'm going off memory and not being a Utd fan but Burnley away? Around that group of games?

But you chose to play him wide which is fine and Utd's prerogative.

Just there is an argument to say if they'd of gone a different route, he'd be far more accomplished by now as a striker.

No it absolutely wouldn't. Sorry but it's bollocks. He hasnr got the intelligence to do it in acres of space out wide. The idea that he's going to learn when doubled up on and with a lot less is literally ludicrous. You're saying he can learn to run without learning to walk
He can't play centre forward until he can attack space from out wide. So no, it doesn't back up your point at all

To compare him to Henry, it was when Henry became super destructive attacking space on the wing that we was moved to CF, then he got better there

Fine. It's bollocks. I aren't particualalry arsed either way as it's not my club.

But I'll lay good money he never will be that player until he leaves Utd in that case.

He'll never be that player until he learns the basics of attacking space, and not just standing up his opponent from a stationary position.

Lads look sharp and to be enjoying training. Noticed on the tour vids how close Lukaku, Pogba, Martial seem to be.

That was also Uniteds trouble last season mate haha. (Inter actually scored more than United in the league, though yes it is considered a weaker league)

Perisic did get a great number of goals last season but he misses so ****** much

Just seen his comparative figures for crosses, goals, assists, shots on SSN against the likes of Martial, Mata etc and he was miles better in terms of productivity.

Not really looked up his numbers tbh mate, just from the inter games I watched he is an exiting player to watch (would quite like to see him in the Prem) but he misses the target a **** of a lot, though he did get a good amount of goals in the end!

Are his numbers much better than Mata??
