I mean, WTF has Joel Pereira ever shown for you to be an awkward customer and completely dismiss him? He's shown absolutely nothing to be dismissed, and the same goes for Lindelof - he's had nothing/very little to do in these few Pre Season games (may I remind you, everyone in Pre-Season aren't fully fit & sharp) so how are you forming these bold/weird opinions? I'm all ears.

One thing I'll never question Mourinho on is his judgement on CB's, signed a relatively unknown (to the average football fan) gem in Bailly, and I have confidence he's done it again with Victor.

Van Dijk is borderline WC in my opinion, but what's to say Mourinho hasn't nicked a Swede from that category for half the asking price? When it came down to it, may have been one of those "Why would I sign a player for £60M when I have a player in Portugal at a similar level/similar ceiling for half that price?" (based on how highly Mourinho rates Victor).

For what it's worth, I do think Van Dijk was one of the alternative's on Jose's list.

Very curious to see Lindelof the PL.

Like you and most Utd fans Rh I know next to nottin' about him in reality so this assertion that he's either 'boss' or he's 'wank' I find most bizarre. But again, like you, were I a Utd fan with this manager I'd be feeling cautiously/fairly optimistic that he must be pretty good and a good fit.

So, what's happened with Fabinho? He was practically crying out for us to come get him. A quality, versatile player who can operate in the two areas we need more quality/depth in. Strange if we don't snap him up this summer imo.

Think Mourinho just doesn't fancy him that much. Managed him before so maybe something in it. Monaco making it harder and harder to buy there players for decent fees. And from a few Monaco fans I've spoken with he's not really pushing for a move, but would be open to one. Tbh I will be very happy with Matic.

I like Matic too and would welcome him, but with a possible 60+ games next season, and with Valencia needing natural preserving over the course of the season, it would make so much sense to add Fabinho.

****: HOW UNITED ARE DEVELOPING WINNERS
Nicky **** has explained how Manchester United are working to breed a winning mentality and has challenged four first-team stars to ensure that it continues.

United's Head of Academy, who was part of the club's famous Class of '92, knows what it takes to come up through the ranks and turn talent into trophies.

In a fascinating interview with ManUtd.com, **** gave an insight into the beliefs that he and his coaching staff are trying to instill, and says you have to be a winner to succeed at Old Trafford.

“I think it’s massive to develop mentally," he said. "Wherever it is, you’ve got to have the right mental attitude towards work and towards other people. You’ve got to be a good person, and I believe that, even though a few inevitably slip through the net as in any other walk of life, we produce good people here. Hopefully they work in football but, if not, they go on to do other things successfully.

“It’s drilled into you from an early age. It’s all well and good being a United player, but you need to be a winner. Ultimately, if you’re not winning things here, you won’t last long, and that’s a fact. The manager will look to someone else who can win.

"This club has built its foundations on winning, we’ve always won things and been successful. We’ve had dry spells, like any club, but we always get back to winning. If you’re not a winner, if you’re not brought up with that winning mentality, you’re going to struggle in the first team."

Asked about the club's wider ethos, **** said it's up to Academy graduates Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, as well as new club captain Michael Carrick, to carry on those traditions, particularly when it comes to new signings.

“People like Marcus, Jesse and Paul, people who know the system, they have to carry the club now. As well as Michael Carrick, who knows the place inside out. These young players who come in for a lot of money might not know the club or the environment or the area, so it’s up to those guys to incorporate them into United and instill those beliefs.

"They need to be introducing them to Kath on reception [at the Aon Training Complex], letting them know how long she’s been here at the club. They have to know about how many players she’s seen come through those doors down the years and decades. They need to recognise the laundry people, the canteen ladies, the chefs, the groundstaff and security lads – they’re part of our family and you need to say 'good morning' to them every single day.

"When you come to United, the players are the superstars and the ones everyone wants an autograph from but, when you come into this building, we’re all equal. We all have a role and, without one, we don’t have a team. Without the kit guys or the bus drivers, without the security guards and canteen staff, there wouldn’t be a football club. It’s important for the players to let the new lads know what Manchester United is all about."

Maybe Fabinho talk has gone quiet because Utd don't want anyone to know what is really going on after all wasn't Lukakau all set for Chelsea until it was revealed a deal had already been done with United? Personally I think there may just be a few more surprises this Transfer window. Most of the ground work for deals will have been done prior to the press finding out. All this talk of who's going where is hearsay for the most part until a player signs on the dotted line, passes a medical and a fee is agreed no one is going anywhere.

I think if we were genuinely intersted it would be done by now. Agree will be more surprises though!

Joel Pereria: I've watched him play like 5-6 games and nothing about him really convinces me. He lacks any sort of command in the box, his distribution is meh at best, his handling of crosses is bad for a GK who isn't new to british football. He has talent but not elite one. He's probably going to be as good as that lindegard fellow that left a few years ago.

Lindelof: Maybe i'm a bit harsh here since its still only preseason but i'm using the same metric in which i used to judge Bailly last year. I saw bailly as rash but i still thought the guy could be a tank for us. I don't get that feeling from lindelof. I think of him as micheal carrick in defense: All he does is pass. I need defenders to do more than pass. The one significant test he came up against versus LA galaxy and he folded worst than bed sheets. I could argue he was responsible for that 2nd goal as well.

I think the steverobbo lad shares this opinion but he's withdrawn remembering his criticism for bailly last year.

What test against Galaxy. He wasn't solely to blame for there first goal it was just mistakes all over the pitch. Pogba giving the ball away, Periera not putting a challnge in on the player that fed him, TFM being caught way up the pitch pulling Bailly over leaving a huge gap and Lindelöf exposed. Plus he lost his footing which can happen. You can tell he's a good defender. When City were attacking he was excellent at martialing Aguero, and when City did get crosses in he had the awareness and pace to match his runs across the first post. Will take a little time but have no doubts about him.

Bit early to be judging either player. Especially Joel he's a very good talented keeper and was fantastic on loan at Balenese last season, shame his loan got cancelled.

So, for Joel you've almost described a young De Gea (let's remember this kid is 21 years old, I'm not bigging him up to be anything, but you're judging him as if he should be a 30 year old ready made package already) and as for Lindelof, you've described what Ferdinand was to Vidic - Nemanja the aggressive destroyer, and Ferdinand the tidy ball playing CB (who like Victor, was far from a pushover physically either).

As for the jelly legged error in his first game of the summer, I'm sure if I was half arsed (but I'm not) I could find an individual error from 99% of top CB's in meaningless Pre-Season games. Minutes in the legs and gelling, that's what it's about.

I actually posted at the end of the season saying how wrong I was about Bailly from last pre-season.

We shall see, I definitely think citeh are making a mistake in trying to get rd of Hart, ok so he is liable to mistakes and he isn't a 'sweeper-keeper' but he is definitely better than what is trying to replace him. All keepers make mistakes even Shilton and Banks!

So Hart makes mistakes and cant play the role, but its a mistake to replace him with a keeper who makes mistakes but can play the role.... huh?
