The Manchester United Thread

Buzzing for tonight! I know it's only a friendly but just happy to have regular footy on again. Looking forward to seeing the youngsters tonight!

If the windows ends up Lindelof, Perisic, Matic and Lukaku... I'll be quite happy with the window overall, mainly because the positions that needed addressing happened.

Not that happy with the players individually, as I feel we could of done better on some, but it would still be an improvement to the team for this coming season.

Thats the key thing Mourinho has echoed throughout pre season. He didn't want lots of signings just the right players to balance the squad and strengthen key areas.

Yeah, as to be honest, as mental as this sounds given we were 24 points off the title, we're not far off winning it/putting in a huge bid.

We were the master of our own downfalls last season (majority of the time) - a few tweaks, tighten up a little with a new DM, and start putting the ******* ball in the back of the net! Let's see where that takes us in May.

You maybe aren't if he opens up. And within that I don't just mean adding his DM and expecting that to release the flair players. He doesn't and carry's on stifling the likes of Metal Mickey not much will change.

The leagues moving on to ridiculously high points totals just to get into the top 4. Let alone winning it. Stay pragmatic you'll stay on the outside looking in.

I agree the football needs to be more positive (especially if we're basing it on the second half of the season) just hoping Lindelof and a DM gives Jose more comfort to release Mkhi, Martial etc. more.

Mkhi looking real sharp in the #10 pre-season, his best position imo. Picking it up between the lines, carrying it at defences, slipping balls through

Being pragmatic doesn't mean a lack of goals. Mourinho's sides always had plenty of goals in them. First and foremost we can't waste the number of chances we did. Even before you talk about the DM releasing the forward players, changing that will increase the number of goals significantly

Watched the Comm Shield, EFL Cup final and Europa League final today :) Can't wait for the new season to start (6)

God. You watched the UEFA Cup final again? That was one of the most mind-mumbling boring European finals in recent memory to watch as a neutral live. Utd sitting in and hitting on the break against Ajax's U-20's who froze down to a lack of experience to counter that. Couldn't imagine sitting through it all again. I'd just skim to the goals and trophy presentation if I had.

TAW every so often do a fun show talking about a great match in L'pool's history. Accompanied by a youtube so you can watch and listen. A few weeks back, for some bizarre reason, they did the second half of the '92 Cup Final against Sunderland. Which was an even worse game than I remembered! Honestly never seen that back in 25 years until then. Taped it on the day. Didn't even bother when I got home as it was so bad.

I get re-watching the League Cup final as that was a real exciting, great game of footie. But the other 2 .....

Each to their own I guess. Be boring if everyone was the same.

still haunts me.what happened to egil ostenstadt?

God. There's a name. One of MANY cheap Scandinavian imports the early years the PL that absolutely stole a living and retired exceptionally rich guys back home.

like oyvind leonhardsen scouse?

like oyvind leonhardsen scouse?

God. Now you've got me started!

What an utter bag of _____ he was. But there was even worse than Leo! Bjorn Tore Kvarme looked absolutely top drawer partnering Wight and Ruddock when Evans had his attacking WB system flying. Pacey. Real composed on the ball. Never beaten defensively as he always put himself in the right position. It was like watching Hansen again. And then the summer happened and he came back like Nicky frigging Tanner! He was beyond abysmal outside of that first boss half season.

Torben Piechnick before him. Man alive he was cringe worthy bad. Torben and his white t-shirt he always wore under his shirt. He defined utterly useless. Bjornebye somehow lasted 8 seasons but he was another pile of ****. Made his debut in a 5-1 walloping at Coventry when Redknapp got sent off for being a bigger tart than normal and it rarely got better from there. Couldn't defend to save his life but he had a hammer of a left foot. Problem was it rarely connected properly! You'd literally be diving for cover the Kop whenever you saw Stig lining up for a shot. Or cross for that matter!

Vegard Heggem I liked but again, he was another FB who couldn't defend! Brilliant going forward though. He should of been a winger but he fit real well in the WB system.

Riise you're kind of fond of as he's a mad red and was a part of some great nights but he was infuriatingly inconsistent. He was either brilliant or he may of well of not of been on the park.

Danny Agger was class personified like but unfortunately, he was just the unluckiest with injuries.

There were a couple of 'keepers too. One memorably, Michael Stensgaard, who was touted as the next Schmeichel in Denmark coming from the same club, dislocated his shoulder trying to put up an ironing board! I kid you not. Which lead to all sorts of shoulder problems and he never played a game. You couldn't make it up!

Yeah, unlike Utd with the likes of Berg, Schmeichel and the President of the Norwegian Liverpool Supporters club before he was madly forced to resign the post by irate Utd fans :), Solksjaer; my memory's of Scandinavian footballers the PL era are in the main nightmarish!

If it wasn't for an all time favourite Molby, I'd happily never speak of those Countries again!

*I don't know how far you go back but you had a couple of Danish beauts the '80's too. Olsen and Sivebaek.

Who was that Swedish blonde winger who somehow was a part the '99 side?

He was another bag of ***** who should never have been at a club like Utd.

God, they infested the PL the first decade or so.

Blomquist?

That's him! Ended up at Everton the same time as they had another Swedish lad the other wing who was equally as bad! That one made Dom Matteo look top draw at FB the Derby. Dominic Matteo!

There's a moral here for PL clubs!
