Fans probably annoyed with Lingard because we have so much more quality on the bench. Mata, Rashford, Martial. All potential game-changes in a match like this, Lingard isn't. He will put in a shift but you need more then that in games like this!

Who would you rather be bringing on to try and win you a game, Martial/Rashford, or Lingard? I know what you're saying, we want excitement as fans, we want to see the exciting players, but Lingard does a tactical job.

Will match the FB's runs, and try to keep it as tactically tight as possible for as long as possible, and hopefully Martial and or Rashford can exploit when the game opens up in the second half.

Don't want to tempt fate, but Smalling is usually very good in the big games. (Yes I remember Chelsea, I said usually).
 
Good line, played him off, but difficult to call. Take it on the chin and more of the same boys.
 
We're sitting too deep, I don't get this formation either, not natural wingbacks or CB's with the likes of Darmian, Lingard etc. Geting outnumbered.
 
Can see exactly what Mourinho meant with the comments comparing our squad with Madrid's and their chemistry. They're currently on a different level.

We can hurt them with our pace & quality in the final 3rd, and Pogba taking it by the scruff of the neck, but Kroos+Modric on the ball with all the passing lanes available to them is just orgasmic

Why though? Our system has been the big let down so far, outnumbered in midfield, now changed to a back 4 thankfully to get that extra man in midfield.

Madrid have a better team. But our midfield should be more than capable of matching up to theirs when you consider we have Pogba, Herrera and Matic.

Kroos and Modric are 2 of the top 3 CM's in the world imo, probably go down as top 20/30 all time.. they dictate, tire teams out with simplistic passing, theres always a man free, they all just understand each other so well. They just play at a much higher level.

That's nothing to be ashamed of, that goes for every other team in Europe too... this is what we should aspire to be.
 
No doubt, and we can go very close in Europe, but Madrid are the team to beat.

Matic looking very good in the DM role. Following runners, breaking up attacks, using the ball well, very impressed.
