The Manchester United Thread

Just wondering if tonight was a bad night for Herrera or proof as to why he has never been an elite player. Very disappointed. Not going to write him off though, this season will be a big test for him with bigger and better opposition in CL.

Judging him against Modric/Kroos is probably a tad unfair. He's never going to win a balon dor, he's never going to be in the same breath as the elite, but he's always going to give you 101%, he's always going to be that clever/cunning pest that will do anything that's required to get over the line, and is usually very tidy on the ball/good passer.

We have to remember this isn't your average CL opposition. This team are the best team in the world, with arguably the greatest squad in history, with players that will go down as individuals... not least their superb midfield.

What a miss :(

Our finishing certainly looks like last season! Which is a big concern considering how costly it was last season.

For me, we need that extra attacking player, who will at least give us a few more goals.

As I can't see such a bigger contribution from these guys. They are still not clinical enough.

This is why we need a winger, service from outwide just not good enough.

So, how does everyone feel, knowing that endless booting to Fellaini and Lukaku is going to be a thing this entire season?

About what I expected tbh. Wasted to many chances and was not clinical enough when we where in good breaking positions. Did see a fair few positives tonight. Madrid obviously ahead of us. No surprise there! Bring on West Ham.

It will only happen against teams better than us, luckily that won't be many this season. (Especially in the league).

Martial finishes that

I don't know. Outside of yourself, everyone continues to tell me Martial isn't a striker. ;).

Well ****, that takes Madrid clear of L'pool into second overall in SC wins. Not sure what to make of Zidane as a coach but you certainly can't knock his record. Don't know what we learned there. For 75 minutes or so that was a clinic from the best team in Europe until they relaxed up the last 15. Utd know this season is a massive step up from the Europa. Mourinho is Mourinho. Pretty much as expected.

Matic looked good on the plus side and Rashfords pace did at least give something of an outlet. And I guess Lukaku getting off the mark is a positive for him.

That's about that.

Yep don't expect it to be a regular thing this season. Will be playing against teams far inferior to us, and not playing against Madrid every week. Matic looks like a huge plus! Mky was lively again as was Rashford when he came on. Lindelöf looked better. Defo need Shaw back and Martial to start more on the left or sign a new winger for that side. Still confident going into the season! Pogba needs to keep it simple. And Lukaku scores in a big game.

I am so glad there's no teams like Real Madrid in Premier League haha, miles ahead!

Meh game, didnt expect much. No one impressed me, and no one dissapointed me. Ill give Lindelof a season before commenting on him, but currently, not looking good. Smalling as usual best defender, have no idea why he gets so much hate. He does fundemantal stuff excellent and there is nothing wrong in him not being ball playing defender.
Shame we did not see Martial this game, I feel Carvahal (sp) is really a bad defender. Pogba did OK when he had the ball, problem is he did not have it enough.

Tonight showed how far off we really are. If you look at our squad we have very few players that would get near the real madrid bench, let alone the first team. De Gea, Pogba the only potential starters for madrid if you ask me. I was shocked at how bad Darmian was, when he first came I thought he looked good defensively. Anyhow, tonight didn't tell us anything we didn't already know I guess, a lot of work needed and the continuing of the mourinho rebuild will take time.

Yeah but the attacking ethos of Madrid run's through at least 3 of the top 6 and keeping pace with their attacking output is your immediate concern.

Truth be told, we'll never compete with Madrid in a footballing sense with Mourinho as manager. Say if it was like Pep and he had been with us a season, we may have had more of a hope in that regard.

That's no dig at Mourinho by the way, he was brought in to do a job and rebuild, is the ideal guy for that. So far he's done ok, I'll judge after this season. I would like some more expensive football, but Mourinho doesn't offer that, he usually offers success though. Which is what this club needs more than anything.
