The Manchester United Thread

The FA F-ed us over in '89 by not extending the season after Sheffield. 18 points behind Arsenal we came back from with the game's in hand and barely didn't not win, never mind lose, from the defeat Utd NY's day until that last Friday. The most emotional of emotional Cup Final's the Sat'day. West Ham the Tuesday. Then Arsenal the Friday. Ridiculous final week.

But the chasing pack aren't like that side. And this City team is far better than Graham's first Arsenal side. As good as they were before he bizarrely went the other way and uber-defensive.

It'd take one almighty collapse of epic proportions. And that's before you even start on whether anyone else can go sustain a run to catch them.

But his continous pitfall is the approach against the big teams and when he deserves criticism, it has to be given.

Yeah you can criticise. But you can’t deny it wins him a **** load of trophies. And his teams usually top points and goal scoring in the league when he does.
 
we have looked far more dangerous playing with three at the back recently but yesterday was so dissapointing although it was clear for all to see that city are far superior.Definitely improving under mourinho and he will continue to make us better but city will get stronger too.Really like mourinho but i would like to see abit more ambition against the big teams for sure
 
The thing that ****** me off yesterday was we didnt play to our starting 11's strengths at all and played right into city's hands. We start with Martial, Rashford and Lingard and all we did was hoof it up playing long ball. I wouldnt mind if the ball was played over the top for the quick players to run on to. It was literally hoofed high in the air meaning if lukaku doesnt get a flick on then our quick players are taken out of the game. That first half we played like we had Lukaku, Ibra and Fellaini all up front.

Even if he wanted to defend, the obvious thing NOT to do is give that City side the ball and the majority of it. But hopelessly hoofing it up just gave them possession back straight away every single time. Seriously why start all them quick players if that was the game plan because I didnt understand them tactics one bit with the players we had on the field?

This I totally agree with.
 
We defo need to start getting Bailly and Lindelöf starting together. Both very good on the ball and both quick across the ground.
 
Ahhh. That explains why the draw for the knockouts isn't until February. Playoffs for the second-placed teams.

I was wondering about that delay.

man we really missed bailly and pogba yesterday.like i said before im not sure it would have changed the result but we are better with them than without for sure
 
Few reports saying that Bailly will be back in the new year after suffering a groin injury on international duty.

Steverobbos post was spot on about the tactics we used Vs City.

The only time that game plan made a bit of sense was when Ibra came on cos then we had 2 men up top rather than one to lump the ball to.

But that change was made too late and I still have no idea what we were even trying to achieve in the first half.

Still frustrated as **** about it, City looked suspect almost everytime the ball got near Delph. Sadly it was only like 3 times in the whole game and we scored from 1 of them.

Im sure he doesn’t need to use that to motivate the players tbh. After that they should be motivated enough. Nothing is won or lost yet though!
