The Manchester United Thread

I shall be bookmarking this page and reminding you if we come up against Madrid this year and surprise them. Again.

Just because.

The very last thing you do is write L'pool off in Europe. Regardless of the opposition. That should be a simple rule of thumb for any seasoned watchers of European football.

So, as it looks odds on a L'pool- Madrid final after the first legs of the semi, as promised back in August after the following discussion after you lost the Super Cup to Real, I have to ask .....

Still all as bullish and confident about L'pool having no chance against Madrid the final? (Indulge me that it will be that final as it currently looks.).

I think the only thing that might catch up with Madrid this year is they're running a little light to rotate like he has been after letting 5 big names go. (At this point. Obviously, that could all change with 3 weeks the window to go.).

If they don't three-peat it'll be heck of a ****** good side that stops them. By far and away the best side in Europe and with Barca losing Neymar, La Liga has just opened up even more to them.

That said, I'd love to see L'pool or City in a knock-out shoot-out against this current side. Quite fancy our chances against anyone in Europe under the lights and they'd be no exception with the speed to hit them going the other way. Be one heck of a game for the purists.

yers wudnt have a chance la

Many have thought that over the years.

Then they come to Anfield. Under the lights. In Europe. Madrid's last loss to an English side came in a 4-0 walloping there. And that was a ****** good Madrid side too.

Put it this way. Whoever faces these Reds in Europe this year will be as worried about L'pool as L'pool are them.

*Edit* Big believer in omens playing a part at this level. Convinced Barcelona are psychologically beat before they play us as soon as the draws made. The Catalan press drag it up that they just can't beat L'pool for love nor money. Never scored against us the Nou Camp. And I think we're still the only English side to win there. Twice over. (Or have someone else done that the last 10 years or so? I lose track.). Seen Messi 4 times live now and he's barely had a kick. If I didn't know he was a serious contender for GOAT I'd think he was 'just another guy' off those games. Similar Madrid. Great record against them including being the last side to beat them in a European Cup/ CL final.

Like I say, I'd fancy our chances against anyone in Europe. We just go together. Which makes the last decade's almost constant absence from the big tourney all the more disgraceful.

LOL. Scouse, Klopp would need some **** Lube if liverpool were to draw Real madrid in the group stages or KO rounds cause it might get rough or ugly

I'd put a lot of money on Real Madrid to knock out Liverpool if they meet in the group stage or the knockouts, although I would do so against pretty much every team I would feel confident in getting my money back with Madrid Liverpool

And scouse thinks Liverpool could go toe to toe with them lolol

Basically yeah, think I actually have bet on Madrid to win every game in the CL so far this season and it has worked out well. Think it would be closer than I would have given it then but still think Madrid will win the CL as I have all year

Arsenal presser-

Mourinho on Sanchez, "We needed a little bit more mental aggressiveness. I don't like the January market but it was a case of now or never."

Mourinho on Sanchez, "Next season I'm sure he's going to be great for us after a pre season."

Jose Mourinho retorted "no chance" when the subject of David De Gea leaving #MUFC this summer was brought up

"This season's better than last season," Jose says. "More points, more victories, more goals, less goals conceded, not consistently but many, many times better football, so I think there was a clear evolution in the team and hopefully next season we can do better." #MUFC

Eveyone fit except Romero! Dave stays :)

JM: "I worked with Brazilian players in every team I coached, & I enjoyed them a lot, everything they can give & also every problem they can create! Who knows we can have a Brazilian in the squad next year. I don't believe it'll be Willian, because Chelsea won't make it possible"

Maybe Andreas Pereira can be with us all season next season!

It will be Fred, to replace Fellaini

Then one other midfielder

What I really don't want us to do is sell Martial to buy Bale
Yeah that would be terrible! Class on his day but can’t stay fit and ain’t get any younger. For what it’s worth Mitten done a piece today saying the Utd hierarchy expect Martial to stay.

Really hope TFM, Tuanzebe, Andreas will be around the squad next season. Would be delighted with Fred. Been watching him a fair bit lately. Would be a good signing for the squad. Reminds me of a less defensive version of Fernandinho.

We don't need any more attackers unless people actively want to leave. Two mids, and two full backs

Defo don’t need any. I will be happy with what we have going into next season with the attackers we have. Think Andreas will be a CM option going off what Mourinho said. 2 FBs 1 at the very least and defo 2 CMs!

Mourinho on Wenger: “After all I did in football, changing clubs, countries, I have to admit I would love that kind of job profile that Sir Alex and Arsene had, but unfortunately he will be the last. There is no chance.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “The media don’t let it be possible anymore. The way you influence public opinion, it’s impossible to do it. Also some of the new owners, they don’t know what is the tradition, meaning and positive things of being a manager in a club for a long period.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “Big clubs know we need big rivals to be better, to grow up. United knows that period until 2005-06, Arsene and Arsenal were fundamental by being the big rivals of United and Sir Alex. By knowing that, the club will show Arsene the respect he deserves.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “I knew the difference between the United I found in my first spell in 2004, and I know the United i found the second time. I knew I was coming to a situation where the club and team were not ready to attack titles immediately like other clubs.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “When I come in 2004, it was just Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, that was the United. It was a different United I found when I came back in 2013.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “That’s the reason why we’re going to get the best position in the Premier League for five years. If we finish second of third, we’ll be in the best position of the last five years.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho on Man City: “I don’t think they took the season by storm. It was the consequence of what they did in the past years. If people thinks about the numbers that they invest this season, ok, great, but you can’t forget what they invest in the previous seasons.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho on City: “The majority of the players that were champions this year, they were champions before. Kompany, Silva, Aguero, they’re not new additions. There’s a nucleus of players there that was an investment made with Mancini.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho on City: “They were champions with Mancini and Pellegrini. The club was ready, then they bring a fantastic coach, then the coach brings fantastic players, then the team was the best team by far. But it was a storm that was in the atmosphere for many years.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho on challenging for the title: “It depends on us, we’re ready for one more step, one more evolution, but it doesn’t depend only on us, but also the other contenders, especially the one that is in front of us. Let’s see what we can do.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “I’m very consistent and focused. Sometimes when I see some kids are a little bit up and down, I feel quite frustrated, that’s why I don’t forget points we’ve lost against Newcastle, Huddersfield, Stoke, West Brom. That’s due to the mental inconsistency.” #mufc [Astro]

Mourinho: “What matters isn’t my relation with the press or the way i present myself in press conferences, or the way i fight or don’t fight with people on the touchline or the media. It’s about my day by day, the way I want to do things. I’m better than before.” #mufc [Astro]
