The Manchester United Thread

I think giving a mediocre player a contract extension is an issue, especially when he's coming off an injury prone season. Hopefully the news isn't true.

Looks like it’s true. BBC reporting it. Don’t mind tbf won’t feature much and will cost a bomb to replace.

I didn't think we'd need to replace him if he left. We've got Pogba, Matic, Fred, Herrera, McTominay and Pereira. Then there's Blind, Lindelof, Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah who are all capable of playing in defensive midfield at least, should we need them.

Blind won’t be here. Lindelöf won’t play at DM or Tuanzebe under Mourinho. TFM hasn’t played CM in 2/3 seasons and never at this level and was dropped by Palace. Periera can play CM but hasn’t. Herrera and Pogba form last season was inconsistent and McTominey is still learning after a breakthrough season. We are in no position to risk going into a new season relying on untested youngsters. And they don’t offer the height and physicality Fellaini does. There’s a reason we have been looking at Mandzukic, Savic etc as replacements.

Can you trust his physicality? Will he use that physicality in the best physical manner, or will that physicality slip into thuggery?
Physicality is great when physically under control, but once the physicality turns into physicality for the sake of physicality, then it's a problem.

The exit rumours around Blind have died down, so I wouldn't be so sure that he will go. I recall Daley and Lindelof both having substitute appearances in midfield last season, Tuanzebe definitely has at least a couple of midfield appearances under Jose hence why I mentioned him as an option. We're not talking about relying on youngsters here, we're talking about alternative choices to Fellaini, who we certainly didn't rely on last season.

Fellaini's physicality is overrated. He's clumsy, not as good in the air as he should be and doesn't win enough tackles. I don't think we should be resorting to hoofball tactics, but if we continue to do it then Smalling offers as much of a threat as Fellaini. We have plenty of tall, strong players and I haven't seen anything concrete to suggest we are after more. I doubt Mandzukic will be joining us, and I think the potential £90m+ signing of Sergej is more to do with his all-round game rather than his height...

Linderlöf didn’t play CM last season. Blind made one cameo there as a sub and Amoyal podcast says clubs in Italy and Spain still interested. Tuanzebe played there for a cup game. Hardly experienced enough to play a major role there if we have a bad injury which is the norm these days. There’s nothing wrong with hoof ball in games especially against teams that sit deep and just defend. Pool and Spurs dropped points last year because they had no other plan other than to pass pass pass and get no where. Didn’t say Mandzukic would be joining us but was linked with him from very reliable media. And offers the same physicality that Fellaini offers. Same for Savic, Talisca etc. They really is no downside to keeping him on imo.

Assume all transfer rumours are largely **** at this moment in time. Reliable media means nothing most of the time.

They may have been leaked but it doesn't mean the leaked are the final kit so far only the 3rd kit is confirmed.
Well seeing as all 3 kits that were leaked months ago now have 1 already released (blue), another all but confirmed (red), and I know the pink is 100% a real shirt, just don't know if it's going to be a kit or not or training gear, then I'm pretty confident all 3 leaks are real.

I’ll refrain from adding anything on Fellaini, but do people still really believe that? Don’t believe the lazy media twaddle.

I can’t speak on Tottenham, who I don’t watch. But I can on L’pool, who you don’t. And that’s complete lame bunkum the more this side has evolved in all its different facets. Profligacy, abysmal officiating and a thread bare, small squad late mirroring up Europe are what cost L’pool draws that should have been wins last year.

The football and tactics weeen’t an issue at all.
