The Manchester United Thread

Unlike yourself I think game time is better for his development, you can only learn so much about the league by sitting on the bench and coming on for 20 mins mid-game. Carrick is actually doing the right thing by playing him from the start for certain games (Palace was ideal in that they aren't one of the bigger teams, they played in Europe during the week and they aren't in the best form in the league), I wouldn't expect him to play from the start every game but to start sufficient games to ensure he doesn't loose the momentum he currently has.

I missed the game today.
What was the performance like?
Any individual standouts?

Can't believe we are in third place (for the moment).

Tbh everyone was poor except Bruno who was class. Sesko took his goal well but that was about it. But tbh Carrick explained after the match that Shaw and Maguire went off due to sickness that’s plagued the squad this week. So explains the lethargic performance

Got what we deserved. Absolute rubbish tonight everyone. Carrick included. Cunha wide left and then having a right footed left back gave us absolutely no width. Embeumo was absolutely shocking and god knows how he lasted 75 mins absolutely dross from min 1. Luckily Villa list

Yeah was always gonna happen. Likely will again. But despite being ****. If Embeumo could finish we would have likely won by a couple of goals. No idea what was wrong with him tonight he’s usually very clinical

Why is the men’s crucial game for CL qualification and the women’s FA Cup final against Chelsea kicking off at the same time 😡

Big win that. Very good controlled win except for 10 mins after they scored. Bruno what a player. Same goes for Casemiro. We look so dangerous going forward it’s great to watch. Cunha and Embeumo been great signings. And now Sesko goal machine can’t stop.

See the women list 2-0 in the cup final. 2 defensive errors cost us looking at the highlights. Chelsea just to strong.

Last time I posted on here, Carrick was Ole's assistant😂

Ole was let down by the Ronaldo signing; over-the-hill primadonna who gave his peak to Real Madrid. The Sancho signing was also a head-scratcher; was confident who was going to be our poster-boy.

Ralf was shocking. Ten Hag started with promise, then got stale. Qutie liked Amorim's character (in the media), but tactically, he set us up like we were Brentford every week. At least his recruitment was good (Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha, Lammens).

Would love to go for Nagelsmann in the summer. Strong possession principles, but unlike many coaches with that mentality, he's happy to lean on transitions if the game calls for it. That's what a Man United manager should be. I want a coach who wants to stamp down a proper possession-first, attacking playing model, but also not be terrified of variance in football. To want to have the ball but be quite vertifical in their passing, and more than anything, be a realist! Football matches are often won in transitions and aiming to battle for & win second balls.

4 defenders. Wingers who take men on. FB's who overlap. Crosses, shots, some character. 60% possession most weeks. Play on the counter at Emirates, Anfield etc. That's what I want.

From the top available coaches, from what I'm describing, it leaves:

Klopp
Xabi Alonso
Nagelsmann

For obvious reasons, the first 2 are not attainable. So bring that young charming German to the Theatre, please

Carrick been doing brilliant, though can't believe it took him 2 entire matches to clock that a Cunha/Sesko/Mbuemo front 3 doesn't work. No balance, no natural width. Cunha drifts, Sesko traditional in his ways down the middle (no rotation), and Mbeumo lacks 1v1 qualities on the touchline. Even if Amad hasn't been in the best form recently, his profile is always needed in the XI - provides balance. Works hard, lots of little decoy runs, takes on FBs, etc. - makes it easier for Cunha to drift, and the CF to be a CF. Just makes things more functional on a pitch. His decision making could improve though.

Mbeumo at RW doesn't work for me, even if he was great there for Brentford. Kinda reminds me of Griezmann, when he needed to convert from the wing to SS (Sociedad->Atletico). With Griezmann, the idea was "get him closer to goal, but don't isolate him, he's not big enough" - and I think that's kinda the same with Bryan.

For Amorim he was a narrow support forward in that horrid 343, which actually suited him. Against Arsenal and City under Carrick, it suited him being a transition/on the shoulder lone CF, but I am not sure he can play that role most weeks when their line isn't so high. Nor am I sure he can be a touchline winger at a Man Utd level club (all due respect to Brentford and the types of matches they play most weeks), with aspirations of challenging for things.

Would like to see him on the LW, narrow and close to Sesko. Only task = running, playing on the shoulder and drilling shots across goal.

Kinda similar to Raphina's role for Barca. a "correct footed winger"; but narrow, tucked in and goal-obsessed.

Otherwise, him tiring CBs as a 9 for 70 mins to allow Sesko to finish them off is also fine, but it doesn't really get the best from him.

He's our top scorer so we NEED to find a solution.

Another good weekend for the men, a win against their nearest rivals and all bar Arsenal (who they aren't going to catch barring an absolute miracle) dropping points. The team will be pleased to have got some space between them and Villa and more space to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea as they chase that Champions league spot.
