I need help creating 'The Mourinho'. Chelsea were so solid at the back against both Liverpool and Chelsea, how can this be best implemented in FM?

Any suggestions welcome haha. I am MK Dons and I got promoted first season to the championship. I am trying a flat 4-5-1 with high tempo, pass into space, drop deeper and more direct passing.

Mourinho's Chelsea used different tactics for the match against Liverpool and City*. 4-3-3, defensive tactic. His normal tactic which he'd use against every team at home is different. (He parks the bus only in away tough games).

I'll try my best to replicate.

Go Route one and Drop much deeper would be wrong IMO, he was still using wingers instead of lumping the ball up.

Also his tactics against City would be different, as he did not completely concede the midfield a la "Stand off opponent" as he had full stretch squad. Nor would that be narrower and it'd be "Counter" instead of defensive.

However, I don't think this will work as ideally as it did in real life, as opposition somehow finds a way to penetrate in the game if you go defensive.

Mourinho usually prefers ferocious pressing while not hogging the ball, forcing opposition mistakes, but in certain matches he likes to concede the midfield for positional advantage, much like Real Madrid did to Bayern recently.

You could also use one of CMs as CM defend, but Matic ventured forward fairly regularly, completing 5 take ons.

Thanks so much, exactly what I was looking for. Do you reckon that this formation and instructions are the best in FM? Like I said, I want to create a similar tactic in FM but one that actually works. I am MK Dons, and I am pretty much favourites for relegation in the Championship, need a tactic like this for tough away games.

If you really want to recreate vs LFC tactics, then I would go for a 4-3DM-2-1 with two wide players being DWs (D) maybe, or WMs, but maybe a 2DM-1 central midfield would be more effective, with the "1" set as a AP. I found it really hard to exactly recreate Mourinho's tactics, but I'm still trying. I will write about successful tactic if I have one.

Just copy and paste City Bus Simulator into the Sports Interactive folder and you should be able to import one of the bus models onto the pitch.

I guess he'd be happy to win 2:0 against the leader of the league :)
