It's a crisp, cool day in the north west of England, a silver Aston Martin rolls into the Anfield parking lot and is immediatly dogged by reporters.

'Jamie, what does it feel like to be manager?'
'Jamie is it possible to turn this club around a challenge again'

Liverpool had turned to former kop great 36 year old Jamie Redknapp in a bid to return the club to the days of its former glory.

Jamie-Redknapp_1074784.jpg

The club had only recently announced the decision to remove former manager Rafael Benitez and redknapp had stepped into the hotseat with the club i na state of termoil.
Accompanied by Chairman Martin Broughton, Redknapp faced the media for the first time.

'Jamie how proud are you on a day like today'
'as you can see im beaming, i didnt think i could experience a feeling like this again after hanging up my boots'

'How do you feel about the clubs financial state, and do you feel you can take the club back to past glories'

'The club's financial and off the pitch state does not concern me i am here today as Liverpool manager and that means everything ON the pitch, sure in the previous regime the boardroom was spoken about a lot but today that changes, yes i hope new owners are found soon as it will give the whole club a boost but it will not keep me awake at night.'

'Jamie what sort of managerial style will you take and who will you emulate'
'I would like to be disciplined but at the same time feel like the players can come and talk to me. I obviously know Jamie and Steve very well and look forward to working closely with them as well as many other key players such as Pepe Reina, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres. In regards as emulating people, it may be a cleche but id like to be my own man, if i was asked who id love to emulate three people come to mind, both Bill Shankley and Bob Paisley, both extroadinary men and the third my old man, i think he is the best english manager along with Roy Hodgson of the last decade, but i can not wait to line up next to him'

'Obviously every Liverpool fan is currently wondering if Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will be staying'
Well yes the two are obvious world class stars, ive already rang Steve and he gave no indication he was even thinking about leaving, he is the heartbeat of this club and it runs in his veins. I havent yet spoke to Fernando, but im sure he wil lbe on board with what i am going to do and i look forward to working with in my opinion the greatest striker in the world'

Many Journalists left the press conference feeling impressed by Redknapp some saw the remarks about Torres as a plea for him to stay where as others saw it as brute honesty, Redknapp refuesed to talk about his transfer policy but two names currently in the frame to join liverpool are Neymar a young Brazilian forward from Santos and Angel Di Maria a left winger from Benfica

i will now take the Role of Jamie Redknapp and narate as him

---------- Post added at 12:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 AM ----------

After quite a shakey press Conference i immediatly asked Martin could we go to his office to discuess my budget, players and the backroom staff.
He asked me to brutally honest about where i thought we could finish, i told him that i knew i could take the club back into champions league football, he luled over it a while and then said a club in the champions league would be much more desirable for foreign investors and offered me £20mil in which to do so.
We immediatly began to discuss players and i informed him that i felt Albert Reira and Charles Itandje should leave the club due to previous infractions, he couldnt have agreed more.
We then discussed new players but we only mentioned three players, Suarez, Di Maria and Neymar for me the club needs some young attacking talent.

We finally discused the backroom staff, i immediatly declared 'This is Liverpool Football Club and therefore should be run by people who know the club through and through' so i have asked 'King' Kenny to stay on as an advisor and Director of Football, ive also kept on Sammy Lee as well as inviting Phil Thompson to return to the club, im sure there will be many more changes in the coming week.

The meeting closed with Martin saying 'Jamie, make sure Gerrard stays' and that was that ..

Squad analysis to follow ....

---------- Post added at 01:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------

First Squad Assessment:

Goalkeepers:

Reina was number 1 no question a quality Rafa signing and he had my full confidence.

Cavalieri was ok as a backup but I wasn't convinced he could replace Reina if needed. If an offer came in that would allow LFC to break even on him I'd let him go otherwise he stayed.

Itandje - He was gone, I didn't care if he was any good. His antics at the Hillsborough memorial were unacceptable and he would be leaving as soon as I could find someone to sign him, Phil was already spreading the word.

Defence:

Carra was a rock but he was ageing. I knew he didn't have that many more good days ahead of him but his experience would be invaluable. I had great things in mind for Agger, I planned to build my defence around him. He was to be the Alan Hansen of my team. I was happy with Insua and Johnson at fullback but wanted to add some cover at left back. Insua was young and would need to be rested. He needed a mentor to help him improve. Degen looked good on paper and in training but his injury record was unacceptable - if I got a good offer for him he'd be leaving and I would promote Darby or Kelly as Johnson's understudy.

Midfield:

Mash, Gerrard, Aqualani and Lucas (yes Lucas) all had to stay. I saw them as an important part of my new system.
Maxi and Babel had to prove their worth. If they could show they could adapt to my way of playing then I would be happy to keep them if they couldn't then I had to look to the future.

We looked weak on the wings and I wanted someone with some flair, creativity and pace, there was no one in the youth system that fit that description and looked ready for the PL. I'd have to bring someone in. I began to look at Angel Di Maria and also began talks with Joe Cole, but with the money City could offer and United also involved i wasnt holding my breath

Strikers:

Torres, Kuyt, N'Gog - I wanted them to stay they were all a different style and I wanted the options. Kuyts versatility was fantastic, i would be playing with a free flowing midfield where wingers could become strikers, so it was essential that he could play down both wings and upfront.
I wanted someone with pace and strength and an eye for goal – Milan Jovanovic one of Rafa's last signings looked like he could fit that bill but I wasn't sure if I should bring in my own man or trust him. I'd put the scouts to work and see how things went during pre season.

I also began exploring the option of the exciting Neymar from Brazil i was hoping to secure the deal and put him into carling cup games as well as many appearences from the bench.

I would be playing a 4-1-1-3-1 system, with a back four of Johnson, Carra, Agger and Insua
Masch anchoring and dominating the midfield, Aquilani a little further forward hoping he could pull some strings somewhere near the standard set by Xabi Alonso.
Gerrard would be given the complete freedom of the midfield to do as he pleaeed, swap position , drive forward or hold back, i was hoping this freedom would enable him to reproduce his best form for his club,

i would start the first friendly with Babel on the left and Maxi on the right, these were the two positions up for grabs for either Kuyt and if i manage to secure him Di Maria

and off course Fernando would be the striker, hopefully terrorising defences

---------- Post added at 01:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 AM ----------

On the first day of training i gathered the lads in and outlined my ambition to take the club back to where it belongs and told them that they could go down in history and make themselves legends on the Kop but the hardwork must start now.
I asked Phil and Sammy to set up a match with the reserves and i observed from the sidelines, the game enabled me to have a first look at my tactics and gave some of the younger lads in the reserves a chance to really put themselves forward to show me they deserve a place in the first team.

The first team ran out 6-0 winners, Torres 3, Lucas and Maxi the scorers, there were many positives with Fernando looking hungry and showing no signs that he wants to leave as were reported in the papers.
The decision to ask Maxi and Ryan (Jovanovic in the 2nd half) to swap flanks every 10 minutes seemed to work really well. Daniel Pacheco also impressed and deffienetly give me a lot of thought about whether he would be ready for the first team, i would deffientley be trying him out in the upcoming friendlies.

However despite these positives there were also negatives, Johnson looked susceptable at the back, and these were not premiership standard players. As well as Aquilani sometimes looking swamped in the centre of the park, it deffientley gave me food for thought ....

Brilliant start, a different Liverpool stories to all the other ones, so I'll follow.

Brilliant! i wake up to these newspaper articles.

The transfer rumour pages are flooded with my 'desperate bid for Joe Cole'

I headed down to melwood and immediatly got to work by rining Jose Mourinho, i know Jose from a Sky1 program and i knew it would be a good contact.
he first congradulated me and told me that Liverpool FC needs to return to the summit of european football (if i didnt already know the enormity of the task)
We then spoke about players, i asked about Marcelo, Gago and Van der Vaart, he told me Gago wasnt for sale and £11m for Marcelo, so i said i'd get back to him.

Steve Gerrard then requested an audience with me, 'i want to stay gaffer' ' i never doubted it stevie' 'should we go public with my decision' 'no steve everyone knows this is your club, there's nothing to go public about'

Our next game was a couple of weeks away so i sat down to begin my transfer merey-go-round

I was able to welcome three new coaches this morning;
Brian Eastick, Mark Serroti and the legendary Tony Carr

On the 16th of July, fantastic news
joecole.png

'brillaint news we all welcome Joe with open arms' (my statement to sky sports)

My squad was finally beginning to take shape, i was looking to add Alexis Sanchez and then i thought it would be complete untill January

I was putting the lads through a 5-a-side match when the 'king' came over with a piece of paper
it was the Europa League draw, Siroki Brejig or St.Pats Athletic, who the **** are Siroki Brejig i asked Kenny, he laughed and simply said; 'i'll send the scouts to work'

looking good so far, Shame Liverpool wouldn't get 20million in real life :(

I faced the cameras to unveil my two new signings, Neymar the young Brazilian wonderkid and Joe Cole who can at any time completley change a game, the press conference came after our third friendly of the summer
Liverpool 4-0 Morton Jovanovic 2, Insua (pen), Kuyt

For me the highlight of the game was Joe Cole terrorising the Morton defence and grabbing two assists
very excited for the start of the season i feel this club could not only challenge for the champions league but possibly the title

---------- Post added at 11:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 AM ----------

I recieved a very unexpected call on the 27th of July
'Good morning Jamie'
'Hi, sorry who is this?'
'It's Ronald Koeman Mr Redknapp'
'oh, good morning Mr Koeman'
'Jamie, i'm very interested in joining you at Liverpool i want to help you re build the club'

SoccerKoemanGET_468x628.jpg

i umeh and ahed, would this be another man above my head like Kenny, Kenny is a personal friend and club legend so there was no fear of him underminding me and acting like an unofficial manager, but with Ronald Koeman would the fans desire his brand of expansive football if things didnt go well, i gave him an answer.

'get yourself to Melwood tomorrow Ron and we will have a chat'

---------- Post added at 11:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 AM ----------

Myself and Ron had a good chat, he was deffientley on board and my fears of being underminded were comletley dispeld, his enthusiasm about an academy set up similar to that at his previous clubs Barca and Ajax really made me sit up, 'we can build a dynasty at this club' he said, it made me sit up, they were the perfect words and i jumped at the chance.
With him and Kenny i had two legends of the game i could go too, and they were both involved with the younger players, players like Jonjo Shelvey would really learn from their brilliance.

With the addition of Ron my new coaching set up was now set,
staffst.png

A very good mix, of English and some dutch coaches, the brand of total football had captured my imagination, its important to win in style but to me winning and earning champions league football then the title is what it's all about.
I wanted to keep some spanish coaches as with Rafa buying many young spanish lads i needed someone they felt they could go to so they ddint become unsettled and keeping the Spanish Goal keeping coaches was purley to try and get the best out of the man who i believe is the best goalkeeper in the world Pepe Reina

One thing I would mention, I don't think Fernando Torres was playing for Liverpool in March 1985 as the Annandale Advocate suggests :P

Still Reading, Ronald Koeman! how did you manage to get him as a coach ? Fmrte?

---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 PM ----------

well it incorporates the sale of yossi :) so we might you never know

We wont, We probably only got about 3-4Million for yossi ontop of our transfer budget of about 2million :| Soooo.. But if we sell lucas for 8Million and Insua for 5million ( what SSN is saying ) Then we could have a good budget of around 18Million.

Will Follow.

Been a fan of liverpool since I was born :P(family thing) havn't really followed football at all, especially once I got past primary school :P.

Ian Rush was a legend :P

Good luck with the story :).

Nope no FMRTE it came up in my inbox saying Koeman wants liverpool post, so i jumped at the chance, glad people are following :)

---------- Post added at 07:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:36 PM ----------

So my first competitive game, away against Siroki Brejig. A wet humid horrible day in Boznia and Herzagovina, we kept possesion really well and was fantastic peformance. Babel and Torres were sensational, Stevie struggled should i persever with him in the free role or change tactics, i would lul over it over the following weeks.

Siroki Brejig 0 - 3 Liverpool FC
Torres, Maxi, Babel

I knew we would breeze the 2nd leg and am contemplating giving wonderkid Neymar his debut, roared on by the spion Kop i feel he will not hide. It will also give me chance to rest my two key men before the league kicks off at home to Everton.

Jeff Shreaves ' will you rest Gerrard and Torres in the home leg'
' well jeff i think there is every possibility not only for the future but for the now, i would hate to have my first league match at home to Everton be a defeat as the two star performers were tired from playing in the Europa League, a good Europe campaign in a competition a club of this stature should seriously be thinking about winning could really spur on our league charge, but it is just that a 2nd thought to the league so yes they will be Jeff'

5th August
I heard a murmer down the end of the phone, 'good evening Mr Redknapp, this is Joan Laporta the president of FC Barcelona, i'm ringing to enquire about buying Daniel Pacheco'
'sorry, no sale' was my immediate response, in my mind this kid was special and a testament to my own ability would be how in the following years this lad would mould into a similar sort of player of the ilk of Andreas Iniesta.
'what if we put soem figures down does that change things, £3m'
i admit it was tempting i wanted Alexis Sanchez and could use the money, but i thought no in the long run it would be better to keep Checo.
'Come back in 6 years with a £40m offer when he's one of europe's elite' i said.

article-1035896-01F9C45500000578-522_468x676.jpg

lets hope this investment pays off

Pre season was going well the players looked sharp and more importantly hungry.
Everynow and then Gerrard would need a bollocking, but he would come back with a witty response and a sneaky smile.
'Oi stevie, Louise would have done better than that!'
'Would she have been stretchered off as well as you Gaffer.'
You cant wack scouse charm i thought. Kenny said he hadnt seen Gerrard so happy since the day he signed as a 12 year old lad, that was great i thought a happy skipper meant a happy camp, a happy club, happy fans and most importantly a happy city.

Fernando needed to be loved, i'd regularly take him aside and tell him, 'this year is your year, you wil lgo down in history Nando you're that good, mkae this season yours and claim the World Player of the year and the Ballondor.'

I was a little weary of no injuries, did no injuries now mean lots later in the year?
Thomo re - assured me ' the players will be fine no sign of tiredness or anything boss everything is going well' good words to hear from thomo.

one thing had enraged me tho, Wonderkid Neymar was unable to join the side due to his age and the Brazilian federation preventing it. i rang their manager Dorvial Junior.
'i know Neymar is leaving at the end of the season, but we would love him to play this season with you and help him develop.'
' i understand your concern but dont worry the kid is such a talent and he will play regardless of the move his a santos player till then and i will block the move out of my head until the final game of the season'

top man.

It was a murky northen night where i earned my first experience of just what being Liverpool manager means, my first Anfield home game.
The Bosnians had been in the city all week absorbing the atmosphere, an Anfield was a sight.
there were only 33,000 in the ground but it felt like triple that and there was not one from the elusive prawn sandwich bregade.

anfield6.jpg

I made two changes to the side, Agger was injured so Skrtel came in and i gave Joe Cole a go in the middle of the park.
the public had been on at me all week, asking for Torres and Gerrard to play to gain some form before the start of the season.
Gerrard was all over the place playing with a big beaming smile.
Torres started fantasicly scoring in just two minutes, a fantastic team move culminating in a superb ball from Emeliano Insua which led to an own goal from Edin Gigovic. Torres scored a spectacular 2nd on the 12th minute. we were 3-0 up and cruising. A rare goal from Carra followed. Gerrard got what he deserveed in the 28th minute making a typical driving run forward and cooly finishing. 8 minutes before half time Babel added a 6th.

At half time i brought on Pacheco for some first team football, and brought on Lucas for Gerrard to rest them.
i said to Chec, 'make an impression on the crowd danny'
In the 50th minute we were awarded a penalty with stevie of the pitch Insua stepped up and slotted it away.
Babel bagged a 2nd in the 67th minute 8-0.
A stunning break from the lads leading with Pacheco playing a stunning xavi like pass to Maxi to net the 9th. 9-0 a fantastic start to life at Anfield, i was sure this place would become a fortress.

i was so impressed by Babel was the arm around the sholder all we needed to turn this lad around.

it was a brilliant night everyone on top form, yes it was only the Europa League and we were playing minnows but it gave everyone confidence before the new campaign.

Liverpool FC 9-0 Siroki Brjig (12-0)
Torres 2, Edin Gigovic OG, Jamie Carragher, Gerrard, Babel 2, Insua (pen), Maxi

I cant believe it.

Is this the same man who lit all the kids faces alight last night? celebrated with the fans when he scored to fabulous goals? Running through brick walls for me on the training ground?

I didnt say anything to Fernando today, i left him to spue, thinking 'what's the gaffer thinking?'
instead i rang Bryan Swanson from Sky Sports, we had become great friends over the years i was at Sky Sports, i would regularly ring him to find out the inside track at club's at liverpool i would have sammy lee and others letting me know but i wanted to know what big moves were happening.
'Where's the story from Brian, is it reliable'
'its from Marcia Jamie'
I knew the newspaper was reliable, one of the only places where lying was considered the biggest sin, and robbers would still have their arms cut off, the story was concrete.
'what you going to do Jamie?'
'I'll speak to him tomorrow see what he has to say.'
'sorry about breaking it Jamie but its big news and it came from Fernando himself'
'its fine Bryan we'll chat soon'

I would let Fernando go for £80-£100m and would consider £60m
i knew it would be bad news for my popularity on the terraces,
i would take the cash, but would i have time to find a replacement?

I took Fernando into my office and threw him a copy of the next days Daily Mirror, the headline read;

Torres: I've Had Enough off Winning Nothing!

'Whats all this about?'
'Gaffer i havent said that'
'Cut the **** Fernando, just tell me why?'

'I want to win things boss'

' and at this club you will win things, this is a new beginning for the club we've started really well. Dont speak anymore i just want your decision in the next two days, either hand in a transfer request or come and see me and tell me you want to stay.'
