Season 4
Transfers Out
There were always going to be players leaving this window to help boost the budgets and everybody that left were people I had earmarked for selling as I didn't expect them to be long term players once we got promoted so we wave goodbye to Cantwell and Dowell who had been big players over the last couple of seasons but had fallen down the pecking order over the last season
Transfers In
Dion Drena Beljo
Beljo joins from Hamburg for £6.5million as with both strikers last season being on loan then we needed to bring in some permanent players who could hopefully cope in the Premier League
Brennan Johnson
We spent a bit more than we would of liked to bring Johnson in from Nottingham Forest at £17million but again he can be a key striker for us for years to come and is also very capable down the right wing as well
Adrian Benabe
We were still looking to replace Baptiste from January and Benabe joins from Parma for £10.5million after being transfer listed and is a very gifted technical midfielder
Jens Johanesson
My scouts found him last season and he had no interest in joining us at that point so we tried again this summer and snapped him up for £3.1million from AGF Aarhus
Billy Gilmour
I couldn't pass up the opportunity to sign the Scotsman for a minuscule £5million from Brighton and will fit our midfield perfectly again
Facundo Pellistri
I wanted some cover for the right wing and Pellistri is still young and just needs to be given a chance and if all else fails then we should make a nice bit of cash as he joins from Manchester United on a free transfer
Jaka Bijol
I wanted a new defender to come in with plenty of experience and the Slovenian International hopefully fills that gap as he joins from Udinese for £11million
Squad
The squad is still a bit light in a couple of areas for what I'd like but we need to be careful not to make too many changes and unsettle the squad. We'll keep looking though just in case as we'd still like a left winger, goal keeper and a left back if possible
Tactic
I'm going to continue with the tactic that got us promoted instead of doing the sensible thing and playing with a DM to help protect the defence and hope for the best.
Preseason
We played a lot of friendlies this year to try and get some cash in but also get the players up to full fitness in time for the season starting but we did get wins against Dortmund and Sevilla even if they didn't play their strongest teams we'll take it.
Expectations
As expected much isn't expected from us this season with the main aim being to stay up. We've still got a fair bit of cash to play with as well if we find the right players to bring in
August
A decent start to the season for us as we get to play Forest who we signed one of their best players from and also Middlesbrough who came up with us as well

Its only taken 5 games but we have finally beaten Nottingham Forest. Its was our debutants who got us the goals as well to show what they can do and its even better since Johnson scored against his old team
Ipswich v Fulham
A proper welcome to the Premier League this time as Fulham do enough to get in front and keep their lead
Middlesbrough v Ipswich
We conceded very early to get the fear that we were going to struggle but thank goodness for the old guard as Anjorin ran riot with 2 goals and an assist in a must win game for us
Carabao Cup 2nd Round
Shrewsbury v Ipswich
We were able to rotate the squad here where we could and Beljo had a dream debut with a hat-trick to see us into the 2nd Round
Ipswich v Everton
Disappointing to concede right on the whistle for half time and then managed to hold on as we see its going to be a tough season for us
League
4 games in and we sit nicely just in the top half at the moment.

We bring Anderson back on loan for another spell at the club as we add cover for the left wing
Hamer Betancurt
Bentancurt was found by our scouts and we had to do everything we could to sign him as we snap him up for £500,000 from Bogota FC. We send him straight out on loan to Toulouse after he joined without a work permit
Giorgi Mamardashvili
We got an absolute bargin here as we grab Mamardashvili from Valencia for just £3.5 million being an absolute coup for the club and can be our keeper for years to come and sadly will replace Green as the starting keeper.

3 tough games in the league and our first proper derby game against Norwich as well to look forward to

The early goal would normally cost us but we got straight back up the other end and forced a set piece to equalise before Beljo managed to get the winner for us.
Ipswich v Crystal Palace
A solid draw for us here an a valuable point for the season ahead.
Southampton v Ipswich
A poor result here as we had a really poor opening half hour and were lucky that it wasn't any worse
Ipswich v Tottenham
Well this wasn't expected at all as we went behind in the 15th minute but some choice words and substitutions at half time made all the difference as our summer signings make the difference here and get a very valuable 3 points

A very respectable 11th spot after 14 games. We could do with scoring a few more goals but we're 9 points off the relegation spots just now.

Well it goes right down hill after the opening 2 games and we have the joy of facing Liverpool twice as well

It looked like we were going to tie this game up after two early goals in the opening 10 minutes but then the 2nd half took a right turn with 5 goals. Luckily we were always ahead in the game and managed to get a big 3 points.
Leeds United v Ipswich
A poor result but the last game really took it out of us and it took its toll on us here.
Ipswich v Manchester City
A much closer result than we expected and we can be proud of what we did today.
Liverpool v Ipswich
We're doing our best to try and keep up with the big boys here as we score 3 goals away to Liverpool but sadly wasn't enough to even get a point.
Chelsea v Ipswich
The early goal got Chelsea off to a quick start and we never recovered but at least we drew the 2nd half.

We really struggled against Liverpool this time as Tammy Abraham ran riot against us and we've now lost 5 on the trot.

It was time to make some changes at the club we we started off selling players who were moaning over game time or new contracts and we got a lot more money than we expected thanks to clubs being willing to negotiate we raked in a cool £50million from 3 players.
Transfers In
Jan Paul Van Hecke
I wanted a new defender to come in with experience and shore things up a bit and after 3 seasons at Atletico de Madrid where he only made 10 appearances we sign him for £7.5million and he becomes one of our strongest defenders.
Ilaix Moriba
We needed more creativity in midfield to try and help get the ball forward to our attacking players and hopefully the ex Barcelona graduate gives us that as he joins from RB Leipzig for £18 million
Ipswich v Leicester
Its taken 7 games but we finally get a win under our belt again as Beljo has a blinder of a game with bagging a hat-trick
FA Cup 3rd Round
Ipswich v Sutton United
We rotated the squad a bit here and it paid off as Johnson got us off to a quick start and it continued from there as we ran riot in the first half to make it into the 4th round
Manchester United v Ipswich
Well another expected loss here and hopefully it doesn't send us down a rabbit hole again like the run last month
Ipswich v Brighton
Well this was a huge response that was needed as we tear Brighton to pieces as it shows how much stronger the team is now with the two new additions in the starting line up

The 3rd game this month where we've managed to score 4 goals and Moriba gets his first goal for the club as well but Beljo was the stand out player here.

We've climbed back up to 11th now after a much better month and now 10 points above relegation zone which is a nice boost

We only had one player leave on deadline day and it was taken completely out of our hands as Dortmund came in for Sam Curtis and triggered his release clause which I'd forgotten about for £24 million to put us into a panic
Transfers In

We sign him for £1.1million from Real Madrid as he looked like a bargain but sadly he's played for 2 clubs already this season so can't actually play for us
Radu Popa
We needed a new RB after Curtis leaving and I was refusing to sign somebody for a small fortune just in case the worst happens with relegation and we found Popa who is a promising player and only cost us £3.6million from CFR Cluj
Zoran Jeremic
Its always good to have a scout watching Serbia as we managed to find this absolute belter for a striker for only £1.8mioon from Radnicki Nis and his value has already sky rocketed
Jack Best
Its always tough to get decent English players for a decent price so £15million for Best could be a steal if he develops as we'd like so hopefully will be worthwhile signing him from Sunderland
FA Cup 4th Round
Rotherham United v Ipswich
A nice match for us to rotate some players and start to bleed in the new players and Jeremic had a debut to remember with getting on the scoresheet.
Ipswich v Nottingham Forest
They have always been our bogey team but Forest's ex player has come back to haunt them from the penalty spot to give us a very lucky 3 points
Ipswich v Chelsea
We were doing so well and looked great value for the point and then we collapsed and Chelsea's strength came through and they scored two late goals to win
Brentford v Ipswich
Jeremic scores a great solo goal to show he was worth taking the chance on him as he looks like he could be the player to get us goals.

A great way to bounce back with a commanding win and it was more impressive after we had to fight back from going behind as we've struggled with that a lot this season. It was great to see our two new signings getting on the scoresheet as well here

We squandered far too many chances here and really should have got on the scoresheet at some point

Well we go crashing out of the FA Cup. I thought we should of decent chance here given that West Ham are in the Championship but it turns out they still have a very strong squad

It says it could be a real golden generation for the club but I'm not totally convinced at that as I think only 1 player may have a future at the club.

A decent looking striker with good physical stats but is going to have a lot of work to do on his mental stats if he's going to make it into the first team and he will certainly not be a future captain of the club with such poor leadership

It was gutting not being able to hold the lead here and lose the game in the way that we did down to defensive errors
Ipswich v Bournemouth
A boring draw where we just weren't able to take our chances here
Tottenham v Ipswich
More defensive problems caused the loss here with the penalty being given from a poor challenge which gave them the 2nd goal

A good performance here that gets us a good point that might get us out our recent slump

Even though its another poor month we still somehow continue to hold onto 11th spot again but we are now only 4 points above the relegation zone so things are getting very real now

We've got 3 games to save our season with the first 2 games being our biggest chances to ensure survival
Crystal Palace v Ipswich
It was gutting not being able to hold the lead here and lose the game in the way that we did down to defensive errors
Ipswich v Bournemouth
A boring draw where we just weren't able to take our chances here
Tottenham v Ipswich
More defensive problems caused the loss here with the penalty being given from a poor challenge which gave them the 2nd goal

Ipswich v Middlesbrough
What a start to the game as Jeremic gets us off to the perfect start with a darting run behind the defends to slot home in just the 1st minute. The penalty set us back a bit but Jeremic came back to the rescue to give us our first chance at safety
Norwich City v Ipswich
Another early goal this time from a set piece to get us off to a quick start but again we're pegged back but we step up to make sure we get the 3 points and this game ensures our survival for another year
Ipswich v Newcastle United
What a special way to end the season infront of our own fans with a huge win against Newcastle. They didn't have anything to play for as had already qualified for the Champions League but we'll take it
League
What a surprise we finish 11th after holding that since mid January and its a huge achievement for the club given we just got promoted
Budgets
We don't have a rise in wage budget this season but do have just shy of £40million to spend. We will need to look to sell players as well to free up more cash and wages for going forward

Season 5
Transfers Out
We tried to accomplish most of our business early in the window to try and maximise the time we had to then buy players as well. We sold some players who performed well for us over the last couple of seasons but it was important that everybody we sold we made big profits on such as Sahsah who we signed for £1million along with Pellistri who we signed on a free transfer and all in it adds nearly £90 million to our budget. The one player I didn't want to let go to was Andres Borset but he made it very clear he wanted to leave when we rejected the first bid from Atletico so next time we negotiated a bit and then agreed to sell him but again we made a £35million profit on him.
Transfers In
Bruno Iglesias
His contract was expiring at Real Madrid in the summer but we decided to pay £1,000,000 for him as he wouldn't agree to talk to us when offering him a precontract deal but he comes in as a rotation option and will hopefully be sold for a profit in January or the next summer window.
Levi Colwill
This deal was done with the remaining budget from last season as he arrives from Chelsea for £32.5million with the first £20million being paid upfront. He will improve the defence and is the sought after left footed centre back
Marc Guehi
Another new CB and this time an England international as he joins from Crystal Palace for £23.5million and completes our back 2
Nicolo Zaniolo
This time we sign an Italian international after he was transfer listed by Juventus and we snap him up for £14million. He adds well needed experience to the team as well
Dominik Szoboszlai
Another player transfer listed by Juventus after only spending a season with them and only ever coming off the bench so for £14.25million he was a no brainer as he will be utilised down the left wing for us this season
Elliot Anderson
Anderson has had two loan spells at the club and been a great player for us so it made sense to sign him at the end of his loan deal from Newcastle for £16million and will be understudy for both wings
Daouda Guindo
I had singled out the LB position to be strengthened in this window and it was especially needed after Borset left and gave us the funds to do it and Guindo will be a nice pacey wingback for us as we will look to improve his crossing but he joins from Aston Villa for £36.5million as he becomes the clubs record signing
Sergio Carreira
We complete our new look defence with signing Carreira from AZ for £18.25 million as he will be the new starting RB
Squad
We have spent a lot of money over the transfer window to strengthen the team to help improve our points tally from last season and push into the top half of the table as well. We have to hope that we don't miss any of the players we sold too much as some of them were first team players for us last season
Tactic
I'm going to continue with the more attacking tactic that we've used over the last couple of seasons and hope that the new players we've brought in will help make it successful and this will be the expected starting line up as well if they are all fit
Preseason
A successful preseason with just the one upset against Real Salt Lake but we made up for that by beating Inter and Atletico
Expectations
The board has really low expectations for us this season it seems whereas I plan on hitting the top half of the table comfortably this season. We do have a bit of cash left over as well if the right player becomes available on the transfer list.

First off apologies for lack of updates been on holiday and started a new job so FM had taken a back seat.
August
Manchester City v Ipswich
A proper tale of two halves here as we had a disastrous opening half hour and it looked like City would run away with the game but some stern words at half time and some substitutions completely turn the game on its head and we salvage a huge draw to get our season underway
Ipswich v Crystal Palace
Szoboszlai has had a dream start to the club with 3 goals in 2 games as he shows what he can do after a frozen out season at Juventus and Jeremic is looking like he'll be our key striker this season with two important goals to get his tally going
Newcastle United v Ipswich
Well this game had everything as we got off to a flyer from kick off thanks to Zaniolo losing his marker and running behind the defence. Even though we had the lead at half time we knew it was important to still attack and to be fair it just worked for us with us getting another two goals but some sloppy mistakes from our keeper nearly cost us the 3 points.
Ipswich v Chelsea
This was gutting, we got so close to a an huge upset and then more poor goalkeeping cost us in the final minutes as its seeming like we might need to look to improve that position as he is really costing us
Carabao Cup 2nd Round
Watford v Ipswich
A much better game as we knew we needed a win so put out a strong team and Jeremic ran riot with a well worked hat-trick to see us into the next round.

Our goalkeeper cost us here again with some stupid decisions from rushing out or passing to the wrong team as he was at fault for the two goals.
League
A solid start to the season as we sit just outside the European spots which is exactly where we want to be come the end of it.

A bit of an easier month in the league but we get a horrible draw in the cup so we will have to see how that goes and we also have the end of the transfer window to look forward to

We only had one player leaving on deadline day was Brennan Johnson who hadn't lived up to expectations last season and we even manage to make a £3million profit off him as well with him moving to Germany
Transfers In
With only having 3 natural central midfielders I wanted to add one more so we went to France and signed Johann Lepenant from Lyon for £17million and he will rotate in the BWM role for us this season.
With this signing and the transfer window over it was time to see how we ranked amongst the rest of the league in wage spend
We are still sitting very close to the bottom of the league which in my eyes is impressive with the squad that we have at our disposal just now.

A very nice win over Leeds as Jeremic keeps his run going as he now as 10 goals in 7 games and he may be the striker we've been missing for the last few seasons.
