Alan Knill regisns as manager of Scunthorpe United which sparks an end to his reign which lasted only a few months. No reason has been given to why Alan Knill has resigned but reports are saying that it is over health concerns. As a former player of Scunthorpe United he was a fan favourite but the news to most of the fans has put them all in a state of shock and dis-belief.

On the same day his resignation is received and finalized, an unknown manager has taken the helm at Glanford Park. Martyn Brown of South Elmsall, West Yorkshire takes over the side in North Lincolnshire on a 2 year contract worth £1,100 per week. Martyn has been reported to be over the moon with the appointment and the chance to live his dream to become a manager. It has been over 2 years since he got his coaching badges and has waited patiently in the wings for an opportunity to arrive.

Scunthorpe sign Molyneux!

Scunthorpe United are pleased to announce that they have signed Lee Molyneux on a 4-year deal worth £1,300 per week.

Scunthorpe United manager Martyn Brown had this to say on his new signing: I am pleased to announce to all the new signing of Lee Molyneux. His determination and passion for what he does is second to none and will bolster the defense on the left side and give each individual a chance to claim that spot their own.

Npower League 1

Scunthorpe United come through a tough test in Rochdale to record a 2-0 victory in the first match of the new league season. Goals from Mark Duffy and David Mirfin enough to see the visiting side through the game which was not the best with shots both missed from each team. The breakthrough came on the 43rd minute when Mark Duffy latches onto a through ball and slots it into the back of the net. All was quiet from then until the 64th minute when Scunthorpe get a corner and David Mirfin nods home to make it 2-0 and seal the game for Scunthorpe United.

Carling Cup 1st Round

Scunthorpe4-2Bradford.jpg

Scunthorpe United make it to the Carling Cup 2nd Round with a comfortable 4-2 win at Glanford Park. David Mirfin started off proceedings with another goal, this time with his feet, slotting home from a corner in the 33rd minute. Straight away Scunthorpe pushed for another goal and were rewarded with Jimmy Ryan scored on the 37 minute mark with a nice cool finish inside the penalty area. The game went quiet until the 49th minute when Jordan Robertson scored from just outside the area with a left foot shot in the 49th minute. Bradford City scored on the 73rd minute through James Hanson but immediately Scunthorpe scored again with Andy Barcham scoring in the 75th minute. Now a small moment of madness, David Mirfin gets sent off on the 78th minute for a professional foul. Bradford City had the last say in the match with Will Atkinson scoring in the 92nd minute for a consolation goal.

News from Scunthorpe United manager Martyn Brown: "We will not be appealing the red card shown to David Mirfin during the match against Bradford City as we feel we have no ground to appeal and the situation could only worsen if we were to do so."
