2017/18 Season Review

View attachment 422888

Chelsea reclaim the title from Manchester United; Jose Mourinho's third title in his 2nd spell as manager. Manchester City once again missed out on Champion's League football. At the other end, Middlesborough & Birmingham drop straight back to the Championship.

View attachment 422886

Huddersfield
win promotion to the Premiership for the first time, and are joined by Reading and Sheffield Wednesday; who themselves rejoin the county's elite for the first time in 18 years. Heartache for West Ham fans, who see The Hammers drop to the 3rd tier of English football for the first time in their history.

View attachment 422885

Ipswich return to the Championship after 2 seasons in League 1. Bradford join them in the Championship after 14 years outside the division. At the other end, heartache for Southend, Wimbledon, Cheltenham & Walsall.

View attachment 422884View attachment 422883

In the domestic cups, Manchester United triumphed in the FA Cup, the clubs first since 2004!
Arsenal erased their League cup heartache of last season to reclaim the cup against championship side West Ham.

View attachment 422882View attachment 422881

It was not 3rd time lucky for the Gunners as they were beaten finalists for the 3rd time in their history. Two late goals from Chelsea wins it for them. For the second year running, one of Europe's ellite clubs lifted the Europa League title, with Barcelona triumphing over Porto.

Elsewhere, their were domestic league wins for Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus & Bayern Munich.

Hopefully get up a pre-season update tomorrow :)

Only 2 players who started off there... wow. Could you show me, in a pm if it's better, some screenies of the transfers out over the seasons. Also I read through this and this looks like it could be the next best story on here.

Cheers man! I appreciate it :)

Here's their transfers: (I took out the loan deals on some to avoid a ton of screenshots :P)

They were relegated in 2016, hence the ton of players leaving.

20 years on from their 1st World Cup win, France return to the top of the International mountain.
Turkey emulated their success of the 2002 World Cup, and went one better by finishing 2nd.
Ghana became the first African country to finish in the top 3 at a World Cup, beating Colombia in play-off.

It was a disappointing competition for holders England, as well as giants Spain & Argentina who all crashed out in the quarter-finals.
5 time winners Brazil were defeated in the second round, along with Germany.

And finally, it was definitely a competition to forget for Italy who didn't make it out of the group stage.

Thanks for reading.

I'm finalising a few more transfers before the start of the season, so I will have a pre-season update later today.

Stick around

Out: Plenty of players leaving the club, including a lot of club favorites. Captain Patrick Kanyuka and vice-captain Martin Riley have both gone over the 30 year old mark and were starting to decline as players. Chris Sheppard is probably the best player to leave, with over 40 goals for the club. His contract demands were too high for someone of his quality, and his performances last season showed he was unable to compete at this level.

Max Todd is the first player in this season, as a direct replacement for Chris Sheppard. He had a couple good loan spells at Notts County & Brentford in recent years and could be one for the future. Another player for the future is Aaron Hayley, who joins on a free after his contract at Arsenal ran out. Australian international James Meredith is a direct replacement for James Fyfield. Left-back was a difficult position to fill, so I'm glad we were able to secure him.

Danny Graham
is the most high-profile signing of the summer for us. Despite his age, he is still a very good player and will provide great experience for the side. German goalkeeper Niko Varrelmann comes in simply as back-up for Jak Alnwick. Ximo Forner signs from Spanish 3rd division side Leganes for just over ?100k. He is a great midfielder who will work very well with the midfielders we already have.

I have been following Marc Sedgemore for a long time, and I finally got my man. The England U21 International becomes the club record signing at ?1m from Coventry! Graham McQuade comes in on loan from Dundee United as final cover for our centre-backs. McQuade is an U21 international for Scotland.

Club News

- Veteran striker Jeff Goulding has officially retired from professional football, but will remain at the club as a Scout. Goulding signed for Eastbourne in 2015, made 111 appearances for The Sports and scored 52 goals.

- Jak Alnwick, Jodey Lovegrove & Dougie Wilson all pledged the long-term futures to the club by signing new contracts.

August is gonna be played through hopefully tonight, after the Arsenal game ;)

We start the season with a great win away to Bournemouth. We debuted 4 new players, and one of them came up big. Spanish midfielder Ximo Forner scored a debut goal to remember. A fantastic half-volley from 35 yards that rattled the underside of the bar before going in.

View attachment 421714

Good start to the cup as we see off Southend. Two from Lovegrove sees us through to the next round; and sets up an away tie against League 2 side Barnet.

View attachment 421713

Very disappointed with this one. Pascal Smit, on loan from Manchester United, completely ran the show. The only positive was Max Todd grabbed his first for the club, but a poor day overall.

View attachment 421711

Much better result as we bounce straight back from last weeks defeat. We started the better team and completely blitzed Cardiff in the opening 20 minutes & bagged 3 goals that ultimately sealed the game.

View attachment 421710

Another difficult away tie, and another great result. We fell to 10 men just before half-time, and fought very well in the second half to earn a draw. Danny Graham finally bagged his first for the club which is a bonus.

View attachment 421709

We squeeze through to the 3rd round in dramatic fashion. Mario Pacilli scored a well struck effort in the last minute of extra-time to set up a home tie against Wigan. I was very disappointed it took us as long as it did to see of Barnet. Not the best performance but at least its a win.

Transfers

View attachment 421701

Sean Scannell joins us on deadline day from Derby on a season-long loan. Scannell can play on both wings and will be a great addition to the club.

View attachment 421690

Young striker William Bray joins on a free transfer after being released by Fulham. He will spend the season on loan at Dover in their quest to remain in League 2.

League Position: 11th (7 points)
Top Goalscorer: Jodey Lovegrove (4 goals)
Player of the Month: Jodey Lovegrove

Great start to the season from Jodey. 2 in the league, 2 in the cup and a couple assists.

I'm not sure when I'll get September played & written up. Hopefully at some point over the weekend.

Stick around.

Poor start to the month as we fall to defeat at home in League again. A late counter attack led to a corner in which Dean Rittenberg tapped in the winner to secure Derby's first win of the season.

View attachment 420585

Finally we secure a win at home in the League, and we do it emphatic fashion against newly-promoted Ipswich. Sean Scannell set-up one and scored the other on his debut. I can tell he will become a very important player this season.

View attachment 420584

What a win! We continue our 100% away record in incredible style. Aleksi Leinonen grabbed his first goal for the club as he chased down a backpass & won the ball from the Blackburn keeper in a truely embarrassing moment. Vice-captain Dougie Wilson marked his return to action with a goal from the spot to secure the win for us.

View attachment 420583

I am incredibly proud of this comeback, but very disappointed that we fell 2 goals down at home in the way we did. Jodey Lovegrove was the catalyst of our revival, bagging two & winning a penalty to cap a great game and give us our 3rd win in a row.

View attachment 420582

We crash out of the League Cup at the hands of Premiership side Wigan. It took them until extra-time to beat us which makes it a little more disappointing that we didn't steal this. Fatigue definitely played a huge part in this result, with games coming quickly at the moment.

View attachment 420578

After the cup heartache, we get back to winning ways. Our centerbacks stole the show, keeping a clean sheet, and both scoring goals. Good result as we climb very high up the table.

League Position: 3rd (19 points)
Top Goalscorer: Jodey Lovegrove (8 goals)
Player of the Month: Jodey Lovegrove

4 goals this month for the 20 year old. He was influencial in the victories over Blackburn & Blackpool.

October is a tough month; with trips to QPR & Birmingham among others.

View attachment 418863

A disappointing start to the month aganist a Birmingham side who haven't been performing to the best of their abilities. I am glad we were able to keep out their star striker; Emmanuel Adebayor.

View attachment 418860

A decent result, but still not our best. We really should of done better in this one against another side not performing very well at the moment. Nikica Jelavic, who scored against us last season for Wolves, was once again on target to rescue a point for QPR after Sean Scannell's opener.

View attachment 418859

Very strange events at Priory Lane in this match. Both sides gifted each other a point with own goals. It was a very good point for us though, as Forest are currently 2nd in the table, and look to be very strong title contenders.

View attachment 418854

Finally we get a win this month, but we had to work very hard for it. Record signing Marc Sedgemore headed his 2nd of the season to give us a huge win over Middlesborough, who are looking to bounce right back to the Premiership.

View attachment 418853

A rather uneventful match against Leicester who held us to a goalless draw. Once again, young striker Jodey Lovegrove failed to find the net, meaning he has now gone over 10 hours without a goal. We'll hope to change that soon.

League Position: 5th (25 points)
Top Goalscorer: Jodey Lovegrove (8 goals)
Player of the Month: Marc Sedgemore

Good solid month at center-back for the youngster. He topped his good performances off with the winning goal against Middlesborough.

Great comeback in this one, as Jodey Lovegrove finally breaks his goal drought with a brace. It was a strange game for Bradford's David Myers, who scored the opening goal, but finished his game early after a reckless challenge on winger Max Todd.

View attachment 418846

Another home game, and another disappointing draw. Once again we fell behind, but Sean Scannell's 2nd in as many games levelled it up. This was our first ever televised League match.

View attachment 418844

An unlucky defeat against high-flying Rotherham. We performed very well defensively, but a knock to Jak Alnwick in the 2nd half meant we had to change our goalkeeper, and it was his mistake that cost us the match.

League Position: 5th (29 points)
Top Goalscorer:Jodey Lovegrove (10 goals)
Player of the Month: Sean Scannell

2 goals and an assist for the on-loan winger. He is becoming a very important player for us this year.

A good start to the month against bottom of the league Bolton. I was disappointed we didn't manage to score more due to Bolton's poor defence. It was Dean Bowditch who scored his 1st of the season after coming on for Jodey Lovegrove who picked up an unfortunate injury.

View attachment 418706

Another strong win to furthur our push for a very respectable finish this season. Danny Graham hasn't been as prolific in front of goal this season, but he come up with the winning goal today. Preston did fight back in the 2nd half, but they were only able to pull the one goal back.

View attachment 418705

3rd win on the bounce against another mid-table side. On-loan defender Graham McQuade played very well in recent games & topped it off with his first goal for the club to win us the match.

View attachment 418703

For the 2nd time this month, Dean Bowditch comes off the bench to score a very important goal, this time an equaliser against top of the league Villa.

View attachment 418698

Still undefeated this month, and another good draw against tough opposition. Sean Scannell hit his 5th of the season to level it up for us.

View attachment 418688

Back to winning ways against play-off pushers Wolves. Sedgemore & Graham both scored their 4th goals of the season in this Boxing day clash.

View attachment 418685

Final game of the year, and we end the month undefeated! Jodey Lovegrove returns from injury, onto the scoresheet, and back onto the injury table for another 3 weeks.

News

- Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba won the World Player of the Year & Golden Ball awards with Liverpool striker Alexandre Lacazette & Tottenham winger Erik Lamela coming in 2nd & 3rd.

- I was named Manager of the month for December.

League Position: 3rd (44 points)
Top Goalscorer: Jodey Lovegrove (11 goals)
Player of the month: Marc Sedgemore

Some more solid performances from the youngster, as well as two goals this month.
