I like how he cost £58m but he's only on £45 per week :D

that's because he's not on a professional contract yet. that's why you can see the "set transfer status" thing in his screenshot which is not the case for the other players. he will be on the full contract when he turns 17 and then he will be getting 82k a week. :(

Haha good stuff mate just making sure ;) A lot to risk over a 15 yr old just make sure you train him up good :D

Yeah, basically the reason he cost so much was that he was at Bayern and they were unwilling to sell. But he has unbelievable potential..he is now rated 4.5 stars by my best scout (tom vernon) who also says he has the potential to be better than Hulk. He just scored a hat-trick in his last appearance and set a record for the youngest ever goal-scorer in Liga Zon Sagres.

mediocre workrate

Will take him longer to get better.

yeah his work-rate is unfortunate. But i'm prepared to give him as much time as he needs. he just turned 16 at the moment after all. and he has very good determination which always helps. And a very determined personality as well :D

I signed him in 2015, when he was 18, but I had been following him, since he was 16. He has turned into one of the best players in the game. Unfortunately, I don't have the honor of managing him as I left Real Sociedad for Dortmund and they won't sell him.

Workrate doesn't affect how well a player develops; it only affects how hard he works on the pitch during a game.
How well a player develops is affected by professionalism & ambition (hidden stats that you can get an idea off by the player's personality).

I've read on some guide before that work-rate and determination effect them reaching their PA. Determination stat plays into the hidden attributes, but I thought workrate also determined how hard they train.

Only 4* potential for that much?

O RLY?

he is now rated 4.5 star and is said to have the potential to be better than Hulk. And as I said before, I had to shell out 58M because Bayern didn't want to sell him..for obvious reasons. I am sure in 3-4 years' time he will begin repaying my faith and money hahaha

A lot of what i work with is based on the information on Guide to Football Manager | FM 2012 Guide and Forum. There's a part about player development, and besides the obvious (training facilities, quality of coaches) it says the players personality and morale are the things that affect development. On the page that describes the personality attributes there are two that mention player development. Ambition ("more ambitious players are likely to develop well") and professionalism ("in particular, they will develop well, work harder in training and endure heavier training workloads"). The descriptions of the mental attributes (including work rate & determination) say they only affect on-pitch performances.

How can you say that after shelling out £58 on a youth!?

Correction...I said that BEFORE shelling out 58M on a 15-year old. I just had to get him. No other way to explain it. Trust me, this guy was worth going all out for. And he's just turned 16 at the moment, already improved a lot from my previous screenshot :D I can't wait to see what he's like in 3-4 years' time and beyond that.

it doesn't say anything about ambition. just that he's determined and will fit in well with the rest of the lads. But i guess determined is not a bad personality to have. i'm delighted that his determination is at 20. he has just turned 16, and already his pace has increased, as has his dribbling, anticipation, strength and a bunch of other things :D Although he doesn't look ready to play in the senior side yet..luckily i'm in portugal so i can afford to play him in some home games.

Determined is a good personality; "Drive/determined/fairly determined: the player has very good determination and a fair level of ambition". Youngsters' professionalism & ambition can be increased (and decreased!) through tutoring, just like determination. Players with top personalities like "model professional / model citizen / perfectionist" make for the best tutors because they have top values in key tutoring attributes (determination / professionalism / ambition), but several other positive personalities also indicated combinations of these key attributes.
Here's a screenshot of my current squad where i've included the players determination & personality:

I basically have 20 warriors who will fight for every inch and for every ball even if we're 3-0 behind at the 80th minute ^^.

My team is going through a bit of a transition atm; i went from 4-1-2-2-1 (with 1DM, 2CM and wingers) to 4-1-2-1-2 with a DM, 2 CM, one AMC, and 2 strikers. I did it in part because of having 2 strikers that make for the most lethal combination ever, but i also did it in part to... "justify" investing, developing and playing this guy:

This guy is a monster. I've trained him "runs with ball down right" and "knocks ball past opponent". With that pace/accelaration/dribbling there's just no stopping him; his passing/crossing/technique makes every ball that leaves his feet a work of art, and at 20 stamina he does it all day every day. And surprisingly... He holds his own defensively. He doesn't make a whole load of vital challenges, but with his pace/stam/workrate he's always there, always pressuring and defending his little corner of the pitch. I'm in love with this guy ^^. He wasn't a natural FB; he was natural at wing-back and accomplished at full-back; with a little training he's now natural at FB. Never played wing-backs.
