Someone wanted a story...
On my FM09 save I was the manager of Swindon, planning to complete ten years then **** off to Huddersfield at the first opportunity. At the end of my 10th season the board come and tell me about this fantastic new stadium they were building and that they were naming it after their greatest ever manager....
So.. I stayed, couldn't really refuse could I?
Instead, the next time Huddersfield sacked their manager I created a new manager and had him take over Huddersfield who were a bit of a yo-yo Championship/League 1 team. It was only 6 months after the announcement of the new stadium for my other manager too...
Anyway, within 5 years I took Huddersfield from a League One relegation battle to the knock-out stages of the Champions League where we were to meet the weakest team still in the competition, man they were bad... I have no idea how they got through the groups, but I digress... So we played them at home, battered them for 90 minutes and scraped a 1-1 draw - I was like wtf?
second leg comes, at their spot, and we mauled them, totally... they didn't have a single shot on goal! But we couldn't score... finished 0-0
That really hurt, so I quit Huddersfield at the end of the season (finished 5th) and went on a 6 month sabbatical - don't forget my Swindon manager was still playing every week and winning every week, including beating the ******* I lost to in the QF of the Champs league!!
6 months later I applied for the job at struggling championship team, Bolton and was greeted with "we're delighted to appoint one of the world's best managers" (I'd won the Uefa cup with Huddersfield).
So, I managed to get Bolton promoted back to the premiership at the first time of asking and managed to stay in the premiership in season two. Then comes my 3rd season (but it was really only 2 years into the job) - I promised top half finish, not being too greedy/over ambitious.
After about a dozen games we were 15th/16th but we'd only lost ONE game (most of the others had been draws against top teams!!) and that tw@t Phil Gartside decided to sack me!!
Just like that, no warning, no 'under pressure', nothing! Just drew yet another game against a bigger club and I was relieved of my duties :'(
****! Forgot to mention I'd also managed Ireland for 8 months (WC play-off to WC winners) before the Bolton job... was a long time ago..
