For the next five games after my departure Benji didn't play any games. Unfortunately I was in a situation where for once Benji came second. I was and still am adamant on taking legal action against Mr Hearn for wrongful dismissal. But enough of that. A very sensational twist came two weeks after my departure. It all started whilst I was doing some punditry work for Sky. Inside the studio alongside me were Chris Kamara, John Saloko, Dean Windass and Ian Wright. I was part of the crew for the weeks addition of the "Football League Show". The first thing on the agenda was to discuss the latest revalation coming through. Boss Malky Mackay had been sacked as Watford manager after the clubs dismal start to the season.
Chris: A strange decision to get rid of your manager this early in the season. What do you think this will do to the players with the clubs financial situation still hanging in doubt?
Ian: Well like you said its not the ideal time to sack your manager. Off the pitch Watford have been a mess and on it they play like a mess.
Me: I'm going to have agree with Ian with that one. I've never seen such poor organisation. There is no link between defence and midfield. No one is really playing that role, the simple role of breaking up opposition attacks and passing the ball. They all run around like headless chickens. The players they have suit an attacking formation with an anchor man. They need to look up and pass every now and then. It's awful to watch.
Chris: Who do you think the next boss should be like?
Me: I think they should be like me.

It was 10 am the next day. The phone rang.
"Morning, Terry Griffi
n speaking."
"Hello Mr Griffin. This is Graham Taylor, chairman of Watford FC. I would like to speak to you. Please arrive at the club at 9am tomorrow morning." he hang up.
Was he going to give me the managers job? No he couldn't. Not a man with the intelligence that he has. Must be another scouting role. But then why did the chairman call? But then the light bulb above my head shone. Literally.

"**** thing," I turned it off.

"Uncle Terry. I'm not getting a game. The new manager is making me rot in the reserves. I deserve better. I'm not even allowed to train with Grovesy and the lads any more. Please help me." a disheartened Benji said.
This was my first call from him since my new job. Yes...manager of Watford FC. I've had history with the club. Almost thirty years ago I scored the goal that ended their famous cup run. People still question whether I was offside or not. I had the poachers touch thought to turn and smash it past the keeper. Funnily enough Graham Taylor, my new boss was the manager at the time during that cold, dark day.

I lost my first game to Ipswich 2-1. However we recovered well to beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 which led to a three match winning run which was ended by Derby. We drew a blank against Peterbrough Utd before losing to Crystal Palace but winning a thriller 4-3 against Preston. We have some quality attackers in Danny Graham, hattrick hero against Preston, Freddy Sears on loan from West Ham, Heidar Helguson who scored twice in our recent 3-0 win verses QPR and even the legend that is Danny Rose!

In total during my period at Watford so far I've had six wins, 2 draws and four defeats. A record I look to improve on. For Benji sadly he hasn't played a minute of competitive football since I left. He almost quit. Until I gave him the perfect Christmas present.
"Benji. I'll pick you up tomorrow. You are now a Watford player." I told him.
He shouted in jubilation. For he was WIP...
