News Flash

Tranmere Rovers appoint new rookie manager Harry Herion into the managerial hot seat. The 25 year old unknown talent is said to be "Delighted to be given the job of the team he supported as a boy". Chairman Peter Johnson added that Herion was the "Right man to give the club a new feel and sense of renewed confidence at Prenton Park".

Herion will have a tough task of getting the average N-Power league one side out of the bottom half of the table and pushing for the play-offs. Will such an unknown talent be up to the job or have Tranmere made a fatal error?

N-Power League One.

Tranmere's first league game of the season away at rivals Bury got off to a promising start, when a low cross into the Bury box from Martin Devaney found the unmarked Wes Fletcher for a goal on début. But just six minutes later Steven Schumacher drew a leveller for the hosts with a front post header from a pin point free kick. Tranmere then had chances to draw ahead again but couldn't get past Bury keeper Cameron Belford, who was in inspired form keeping out long range efforts from Ash Taylor and James Wallace. But on the 82nd minute Bury found their winner when Efe Sodje popped up in the box from a corner to head his side ahead and forcing Rovers into a disappointing lose. Herion said "I was proud of the lads they came out of the blocks first and really got stuck into the game, just two defensive errors let us down today. We need to work on finishing as the game should of been long out of sight before they levelled."

Tranmere now move on to their next fixture which is a Carling Cup First Round tie against Barnsley at Prenton Park, this will be Harry Herion's first competitive game in front of the Prenton Park faithful.

Carling Cup First Round

Tranmere Rovers were out classed by the Championship side who came out with a point to prove from the start. They got their first goal when Michael Tonge scored from a cut back cross to lash his side ahead in the 22nd minute. After that Tranmere offered very little in reply, the closest the Merseyside club came to drawing level was an ambitious effort from front man Enoch Showumni which hit the bad from 25 yards out. After that Barnsley piled back on the pressure and added a second when James Wallace put through his own net after he got in the way of another Tonge shot. Deflecting it passed the stranded Fon-Williams in the Tranmere net. Altogether a rather disappointing effort at a cup upset by Tranmere.
