THE ULTIMATE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CHALLENGE

View attachment 452320

Basically, the aim of this challenge is to win the Champions League with all 22 past winners. Full rules for this challenge can be found here.

I started this challenge 3 days ago, and I've already powered through a full season, so the initial updates might be quick, till I catch up to where I am now.

MANAGER PROFILE

Manager Name - Torsten Bach
Place of Birth - Schonau , Germany
Past Experience - International Footballer (28 apps / 7 goals)

Thanks for reading, and wish me luck!

I ended up picking the easiest route. It was a tough choice between Bayern or Madrid, but Ancelotti would retire sooner than Guardiola , so it was a no-brainer from there.

KEY PLAYERS

FRANCK RIBERY & ARJEN ROBBEN
View attachment 452317
Two of the best wide player in the world , I would be looking for them to cut inside and play as attackers rather than simply support my striker

PHILIPP LAHM & DAVID ALABA
View attachment 452316
Amazing full backs who would be expected to run down the flanks and ensure that we keep the opposition firmly in check

BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER , THIAGO & JAVI MARTINEZ
View attachment 452315View attachment 424620View attachment 452314
These three would fight it out for a place in central midfield , and with Gotze/Kroos/Muller in front , they should find it very easy to influence games

My aims for this season :

Win the Bundesliga & DFB-Pokal
Win the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup
Have at least one player score 25+ goals

Transfers and August-September review

Seems legit. If you are just starting, I would recommend not to get any crazy players (the bench is already packed and it might unsettle some players) and go for some youngsters. Robert Lewandowski will leave on a free and you can pick him up in January (bargain for Bayern)

I've already finished a full season , plus on my game, Lewandowski's transfer is already confirmed.

SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW

TRANSFERS IN

Timo Werner

View attachment 452307

AM(L)/ST - Stuttgart - 10m

With an initial fee of 7.5m + 2.5m in monthly installments, some might have their doubts over the price tag, but I saw this as a future investment.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

View attachment 452306

ST - Schalke - 12.75m

I wasn't impressed by either Pizarro or Mandzukic, and I wasn't prepared to play Muller up front, so Huntelaar came in. I almost rage quit because Schalke confirmed the transfer after their Champions League playoff, which meant he would be ineligible for me!!!!

NOTABLE TRANSFERS OUT

Mario Mandzukic

View attachment 452305

ST - Schalke - 15m

Pizarro couldn't agree a contract with Monaco, so I was forced to move Mandzukic along. This could have been a very bad mistake, given Huntelaar's situation.

PRE-SEASON 2013

vs FC Bayern II (H) : 4-1
Stadion and der Grunwalder Strasse
Dante (10) , Pizarro (32) , Ribery (54) , Kroos (70)

An easy win against our reserve team.
--------------------------------------------------------
vs HSV (H) : 5-3
Allianz-Arena
Muller (13) , Schweinsteiger (24) , Dante (34,78) , Pizarro (90+2)

I don't know what's the deal with this friendly, HSV play in the same division. Nevertheless, a comfortable win, although my defence looked a bit shaky.
----------------------------------------------
vs Grossaspach (A) : 3-0
comtech Arena
Kroos (16) , Skarlatidis o.g (29) , Schroder o.g (52)

We should have easily beaten this regional side by more. No goals conceded, though.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vs Urawa Reds (A) : 1-3
Saitama Stadium 2002
Mandzukic (23)

Disappointment.
------------------------
vs Beijing (A) : 2-1
Workers' Arena
Muller (57) , Kirchoff (84)

We had to work harder than expected for this win.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
vs Fuli (A) : 1-1
Yuexiushan Stadium
Muller (86)

We almost lost to an early goal. Much improvement is needed if we are to lift the Champions League this season.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vs Ajax (A) : 1-1
Amsterdam ArenA
Mandzukic (55)

24 shots, just the one goal. Pathetic.
-----------------------------------------------------

Pre-season Record : 4 W / 2 D / 1 L

Not the worst pre-season, but the defence has had better days.

JULY/AUGUST 2013

Supercup - July 27
vs Dortmund (A) : 1-0
Signal Iduna Park
Dante (74)

MOTM: Dante
First game, first trophy. Our defence was amazing this match, as they repelled almost 25 shots from Dortmund's attacking trio. It was however a thoroughly deserved win for us.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DFB-Pokal 1st Round - August 4
vs Nottingen (A) : 11-0
Wildparkstadion
Werner (5) , Schweinsteiger (19) , Dante (42,57,82) , Robben (47) , Schurg o.g (52) ,
Pizzaro (55,79) , Kirchoff (76) , Kroos (87)

MOTM: Arjen Robben

We inflicted a devastating defeat on a non-league team, with Robben assisting 6 times.
Who said the man couldn't pass?!!

DFB-Pokal 2nd Round Draw
vs Wolfsburg (H)
--------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 1 - August 10
vs Nurnberg (H) : 1-1
Allianz Arena

Disappointing performance from our attack as Chandler kept them in check for most of the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 2 - August 17
vs Hoffenheim (A) : 2-4

Wirsol Rhein-Necker-Arena
Pizarro (8) , Muller (76)

MOTM: Tarek Elyounoussi (Hoffenheim)
Another appalling performance as we fail to kickstart our league campaign.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 3 - August 24
vs Braunschweig (H) : 3-0
Allianz Arena
Boateng (2) , Muller (26) , Huntelaar (52)

MOTM: Arjen Robben
Much better and gives me hope that we can beat Chelsea in the Super Cup....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UEFA Super Cup - August 30
vs Chelsea (N) : 2-3

Synot Tip Arena
Alaba (60) , van Buyten (84)

MOTM: Samuel Eto'o (Chelsea)

Unfortunately, we were powerless to resist the greatness of Chelsea's newest striker.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH - AUGUST

Arjen Robben - Put in some great shifts in an otherwise disappointing month

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW 2013

Atletico Madrid
Ajax
Steaua Bucharest

Should be a relatively easy group, we should look to qualify in first place.

P.S : Bear with me for a season or so, I will not be able to post league tables or stats.

Huntelaar's brilliant 10-minute hat-trick was overshadowed by 3 brilliant headers from Dante. Shame that Huntelaar won't get to play in Europe.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Dante - Some amazing performances at the back, plus an absolute terror in the opposition's penalty box.

An incredible month for us with 18 scored and none conceded in 5 wins out of 5.

Good luck, should be interesting to see how far you get with the likes of Celtic, Ajax, or Red Star.

OCTOBER 2013

Champions League Matchday 2 - October 2
vs Atletico Madrid (A) : 0-2
Vicente Calderon

MOTM: Emiliano Insua (At.Madrid)

Blasted my side after the game. The defence was simply unable to cope with players like Costa and Miranda.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 7 - October 6
vs Freiburg (A) : 4-0
Mage-Solar-Stadion
Huntelaar (47) , Dante (54) , Gotze (73) , Muller (84)

MOTM: Dante
It took a whole 45 min. for them to wake up. Dante with another amazing performance.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 8 - October 19
vs Leverkusen (H) : 4-1
Allianz Arena
Huntelaar (44) , Muller (51,62) , Thiago (59)

MOTM: Thomas Muller
Another great performance to recover from the shocker in Spain.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Champions League Matchday 3 - October 23
vs Ajax (H) : 3-1
Allianz Arena
Dante (7,sent off 15) , Boateng (31) , Robben (pen.55)

MOTM: David Alaba
When Dante was sent off, I feared the worst. However, Alaba's brilliance meant we had enough possession to convert to goals.
----------------
Bundesliga Week 9 - October 26
vs Augsburg (A) : 2-0
SGL Arena
Muller (25) , Kirchhoff (61)

MOTM: Jerome Boateng
Kirchhoff and Boateng with a dominant defensive display.

Bundesliga Week 10 - October 30
vs Stuttgart (A) : 2-1
Mercedes-Benz Arena
Schweinsteiger (pen. 3) , Martinez (45)

MOTM: Gotoku Sakai (Stuttgart)
The Japanese right-back's efforts stopped us from scoring more, else it was a really comfortable win for us.

NOVEMBER 2013

Bundesliga Week 11 - November 2
vs Werder Bremen (H) : 3-1
Allianz Arena
Gotze (39) , Muller (45) , Dante (75)

MOTM: Dante
Routine win, should set us up well for another run of games.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Champions League Matchday 4 - November 5
vs Ajax (A) : 0-3
Amsterdam ArenA

MOTM: Lucas Romero (Ajax)
Appalling performance from Shaqiri and Robben in this game, plus we concede 2 in stoppage time, so the scoreline is worse off than it should be.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 12 - November 9
vs Wolfsburg (A) : 2-1
Volkswagen Arena
Dante (64), Robben (66)

MOTM: Bas Dost (Wolfsburg)
We were lucky to scrape out a win, Dost was calling the shots throughout. But I will take it, given the poor performance in midweek.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 13 - November 23
vs Mainz (H) : 2-0
Allianz Arena
Dante (63) , Huntelaar (78)

MOTM: Elkin Soto (Mainz)
Another game in which we don?t win convincingly. Gearing up for an important game against Steaua, although Robben will be out for a week.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Champions League Matchday 5 - November 27
vs Steaua (A) : 1-0
National Arena
Pizarro (6)

MOTM: Javi Martinez
We had to work hard for a result, which puts in a must-win situation against At.Madrid. Our lack of strikers in Europe showing once more.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Bundesliga Week 14 - November 30
vs Hertha BSC (A) : 2-2
Olympiastadion
Huntelaar (24) , Ribery (37)

MOTM: Adrian Ramos (Hertha)
Topsy-turvy game, but I can?t afford to keep dropping points, Dortmund are going strong.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

No standout performers throughout, but Dante's been our best by a lot. I was initially planning on selling him and buying someone better to partner Kirchhoff/Boateng, but I don?t regret it!

What do you think of the story so far? Thanks for reading.

vs Hannover (A) : 3-0

vs Atletico Madrid (H) : 3-0

A win is a win. We obviously created more chances but I think the weather played a part in it. I don't think 10 degrees is very common in Morocco!

Are you playing standard 4-2-3-1? I see you're losing some crucial points in easy games.

Are you playing standard 4-2-3-1? I see you're losing some crucial points in easy games.
You could say that. I think dropping points was due to Neuer rushing out too often, we conceded some cheap goals. Even with Lahm as an Wing Back on attack, he was easily able to track back and beat any opponent, except for maybe Reus.

Youth Intake

Poor. Not a single player rated above 2 stars.

Bundesliga

View attachment 451077

Oh dear. I fear we may have thrown away the title after being comfortably in front. Next year is probably our year, although I won't be sticking around much longer. (Spoiler Alert: Dortmund are highlighted in blue....)

Champions League

Not such a convincing win at the Etihad, but we did it.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL - vs Borussia Dortmund
(chance to get revenge, maybe)

really like the updates and the challenge so far. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Gl on the pitch.

Dortmund in blue?
I'd guess you resigned from Bayern, Klopp joined Bayern, you applied for Dortmund? xD
