Hi guys
this time I show you how to emulate Thomas Frank's Brentford 2024-25 tactic.
When (and if....) FM 26 will be available, I will buy it and start emulating season 2025-26 tactic including Frank's new Spurs tactics.
So, let's start with the tactic analysis
Thanks to the guidance of Danish coach Thomas Frank, Brentford achieved a remarkable rise within just five years, first securing promotion to the Premier League and then maintaining their top-flight status despite operating with one of the league’s smallest budgets. With a win rate exceeding 40%, Frank is widely regarded as the most successful manager in the recent history of the West London club. After an impressive 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 Premier League season, Thomas Frank was appointed as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, signing a three-year contract to succeed Ange Postecoglou. This appointment stands as a testament to his methodical approach and the tangible results he achieved through a well-defined team culture and a human-centered management style focused on continuous player development.
Let us now delve into the tactical analysis of Brentford under Thomas Frank's leadership.
Tactical Overview
Thomas Frank’s tactical philosophy emphasizes directness and intensity. Despite roster changes and shifting expectations, Brentford under his management approached each season with a focus on vertical passes, predominantly through the middle, aiming to outnumber opponents in attack. Defensively, the team remains organized, pressing man-to-man while maintaining good width and positional discipline.
Formations have shifted over the years, with a recent preference for 4-2-3-1, but earlier seasons saw 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 shapes depending on tactical needs. Against top teams, Brentford often employed five defenders, with a forward dropping back between the midfielders to overload wide areas and restrict central space. The defensive midfielder Christian Nørgaard has been pivotal, providing game reading and interceptions that bolster the backline.
Transitions and Attack
Frank favors calculated risks with long, direct passes aimed at fast, physical finishers like Bryan Mbeumo and Emmanuel Dennis. Brentford minimizes low-probability long shots or deep crosses, focusing instead on creating numerical superiority in the box to generate high-quality chances.
Formation: 4-2-3-1

• Left Back: Lewis Potter (or Henry) – Complete Wing-Back (Attack): Stay Wider, More Pressing
Defensive Midfielders:
