For a so called 'big' club to have finished in 17th two seasons on the bounce they can't rely on their reputation other clubs know this so they are hiking up the price safe in the knowledge that Spurs are desperate. Last season the attraction of the Champions League will have offset the desperation somewhat, but now there is as you say nothing else but money to offer. They need to have a good season next time out so have to gamble somewhat. It's currently a sellers market and the world cup won't help matters. There sound financially. Plus there owners have just injected about a £100m into the club. And just sold an unknown 19 yr old CB to Brighton for £50m god knows how. Markets gone nuts!
Worry thing for Spurs. They gone from being pretty shrewd operators. To full blown Ed Woodward style in the market. I guess they have had no choice coz apart from offering obscene amounts of money to attract players. They can’t offer anything else.
