Billionaire Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reported to have lost £1million on craps in just a couple of hours at a Newcastle casino.

The Sun newspaper reports that Ashley had been at the Aspers casino, a block away from St James’s Park, with club manager Alan Pardew and managing director Derek Llambias.

According to eyewitnesses, he started off on a hot streak winning £130,000 in no time.

"He was placing bets all over with £1,000 and £5,000 chips. It only took him about ten minutes to lose that first £30,000, so he had to get some more chips.

"He bet thousands at a time, tens of thousands sometimes - covering the table with bets. They finally left at 4am and by that time he had lost £970,000. It was amazing but he didn't seem bothered at all".

Ashley was worth an estimated £1.9billion just before the recession hit, though his wealth is still considerable.

He is also said to be a keen gambler and is alleged to have settled an argument over a £200,000 legal bill by losing a round of Spoof.

The Toon army would contend however that Ashley’s biggest gamble this season was the sacking of popular manager Chris Houghton with the newly promoted club riding high in 11th place in the English Premier League.

To be fair it's up to him what he does with his money, but he should be using this money too improve the club not gambling in it in a casino for no good reason
