Weakened Spurs side see off Sampdoria to reach the group stages of the UEFA Champions League

A debut goal from 16 year old Marco Verratti helped Tottenham to easily see off the threat of Sampdoria.

In Tottenham's make or break Champions League match against Sampdoria Spurs scored five goals for the third match in a row.

Two goals between 15 and 18 minutes from Edin Dzeko saw Tottenham go two nil up and surely through.

Then Sampdoria found a way back when Giampaolo Pazzini scored straight after Dzeko to keep Sampdoria's little hopes alive.

Then, 60 minutes into the match history was made. Marco Verratti scored on his Spurs debut to become the youngest ever UEFA Champions League scorer in history and Tottenham's youngest ever goalscorer in a competitive match.

But Sampdoria were not finshed battling as Pazzini scored his second goal in this brilliant game so far.

Five minutes from time Peter Crouch's headed goal made it 4-2 to Spurs.

However, Yoann Gourcuff's name was added to the scoresheet in added time to make sure Tottenham had completed a 10-2 aggregate win.

Jamie Redknapp admitted, "I did field a weaker side to the first leg but the boys did superbly by passing the ball with exsquisite skill and composure."

The Champions League group draw is on Friday and Tottenham have got a place in Seed 2.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

RANGERS VS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Spurs score big again in six goal thriller at Ibrox

Tottenham beat Rangers 4-2 at Ibrox to move up to 2nd place in the UEFA Champions League group H.

The atmosphere was electric as two giants of British football were ready to collide.

The away side started well when it took them just 85 seconds to have a chance. Edin Dzeko hit the woodwork and Spurs wondered if they would get a better chance all night.

Luckily for them, with just five minutes played Spurs took the lead when Rafael Van Der Vaart scored a wonder goal.

But celebrations only lasted twelve minutes as David Weir's ball was headed in by Lee McCulloch.

Just after half-time, Jermain Defoe proved why he is one of the best strikers in Europe when he smashed Tottenham ahead.

Tottenham doubled their lead when Edin Dzeko headed a third Spurs goal on 69 minutes.

Rangers recieved some hope with 20 minutes to go when James Beattie tapped the ball home.

But all hope was lost for the Scottish champions when Edin Dzeko scored his second goal 14 minutes from time.

"It was a great result!" stated a very happy Jamie Redknapp, "We worked very hard and deserved to win. We're scorin' a lot of goals so far this season and it's just magnificent!"

Rangers boss Walter Smith said "We didn't play too badle. But we were very unlucky, we had chances that we didn't take. WE have to respect that Jamie's lad's deserved to beat us."
